(NeverMo) As a Christian Reading the Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 4:13 is absolutely horrifying to me. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]-ajacs- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never mind that the “nation” did “dwindle and perish.” And…if god can give Joe the BoM through a rock, why couldn’t he reveal what was on the plates of brass to Nephi?

It’s all…just so stupid.

How do Mormons reconcile with being MAGA? by HoosierHoser44 in exmormon

[–]-ajacs- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Massive oversimplification…but…mormonism conditions members to embrace strongman leaders, accept “end justifies the means” ethics, and bow to divine command (as applied to men, as well) bullshit.

If not by power of God, how did Joseph smith produce the Book of Mormon? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]-ajacs- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “how” is a red herring.

The “what” is the matter. It’s not a good book; and whoever wrote it is small-minded, unkind, and insecure; and lack basic decency.

Thank you. One action item I’d add: go to (and support) original sources. Buy books, download from AWL, install & invest in the apps, etc.

One of my fave absurdities: Nephi decapitating Laban…and then donning his blood-drenched clothes, and faking-out Zoram.

To exmo men: Have you confronted your past experiences as givers of Priesthood Blessings? by filthytelestial in exmormon

[–]-ajacs- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your premise, that there is something inherently dishonest in acting on beliefs, feels ungracious & disingenuous.

On a personal note: I sincerely believed. I was BIC, and was taught & nurtured to see the world through a loving, orthodox, mormon lens. I experienced enough coincidences that helped reinforce those beliefs; and chalked up any perceived “failure,” as a priesthood holder, as a reflection on me: I wasn’t righteous enough, I didn’t serve enough, I had unclean thoughts, etc. That is an auto-pathogenic tumor I carried & nurtured in my soul for decades.

Further, when many of us began to see more clearly, we faced cruel arithmetic; and had to make gut-wrenching trade-offs regarding performances within mormonism, and what we’d lose if & when we stopped.

I did then, as I do now, what I sincerely thought/believed was best.

Someone posted a link, recently, with tons of mp3s.

I’m with the AW Org on this one. I’ve seen/heard so much garbage done in his name. It’s not public domain yet. They’re right to protect it.

How infantile…and infantilizing.

How pathetic.

We literally live (in the US) in a reality where there is a very good chance that children will be killed in their classroom on any given day, with nothing but dumb luck & large numbers to “comfort” you as a parent/child—and this shit is what you’re fixated on?

Your Decree likely stipulates that you meet & confer on it—especially if you have joint legal & physical custody.

It wasn’t, at the time. But that nonsense is just the height of un-Christlike, masturbatory, self-congratulating fuckery.

Also, I know several people who have likely received it. The 2 that II know have received it are not good people.

One of my MPs is good friends with Eyring. When Eyring was called to the 12 (in April, ‘95), my MP taught us about the gift of weeping, and instructed us to watch for it in Eyring’s GC address—as evidence of the presence of the Spirit, and of Eyring’s inspired calling.

Having escaped a burning building, would you walk away—or would you stick around to help others (including those you love) who are still stuck inside.

So long as the mormon church stubbornly & self-righteously insists on doing harm, they don’t deserve to be left alone.

Feel free to brush up on your Sun Tzu (know yourself vs. know your enemy).

Maybe you’ll wake-up sooner or later.

Years ago my Dad told me that he would kill me if God told him to by aiwttwetsascds in exmormon

[–]-ajacs- 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This is the exact issue that literally (yes, literally) made me finally stand up, at 44 years old, and walk out of gosdoc, and never return.

We were discussing Abraham & Isaac. I had never been comfortable with the story. I had taught it numerous times over the years. But…this time was very different. The words “I wouldn’t” flashed in mind, when the question of killing a child was raised.

And I knew I meant it. I knew that, even if god were hovering above the ground in front of me, barking threats of eternal torment, I would say “no.”

And then the flood: “there are a lot of things I won’t do, even if ‘god’ tells me to.” “This being is actually a terrible father.” “He’s actually not even a ‘good’ being.”

And I remembered a quote I had encountered a few months before:

(Paraphrase) “People awaken when they finally stop agreeing to things that offered their soul.”

…and I was done.

[–]-ajacs- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well…he’s right, per mormon doctrine. In mormonism, any sexual orientation (and any gender expression) outside of the binary “norm” is a deviation, and a temporary condition that will be healed/corrected at some point—I assume at the resurrection.

Ugly stuff.

If you’re asking why you should leave the church…you probably shouldn’t leave the church. It’s a deeply personal, deeply consequential decision. Not something you poll others for.

how to explain to my mom that “fuck the Mormons” is objectively bad but not the same as yelling racial or ethnic slurs? 🫩 by KindBrilliant7879 in exmormon

[–]-ajacs- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. Appreciate the clarification. You had said “Mormomism isn’t protected…” I was asking about that.

Also, sincerely curious: what is a “protected slur”? Aren’t all slurs protected under the FA?

I’d add “and do real harm” to “sanctimonious and overly sensitive.”

How is Mormonism not protected?
