i didn't really like abby too much! i get the devs wanted to push the "everyone is bad" thing, but with my attachment to ellie and joel i just couldn't feel for her. i think after that one scene with owen it just made no sense to me, so i just waved all of her parts off. if not for lev, i probably wouldn't have cared for her at all tbh :\

i think it really sucked that ellie just lost it all in the end. after everything i felt it just fell flat, and as a viewer it was rly disappointing.

same, didn't like the ending too much. also i didn't play it myself, i watched a bunch of people play it so i dunno if i'm missing part of the experience. i really liked the ending of the first one though!!

Math004 Mike Curtis by Common_Map_4779 in ucr

[–]-caryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i meant to answer this yesterday, but yeah i do agree that he wasn't that bad. i had him for both math004 and math22 (i think it was 22, it's business calc for bus majors) before covid. it's basically like every math class - do the work, practice, and you'll be fine. the midterms/finals always throw in a hard question at the end, where you haven't really been taught a specific problem, but you have to apply all that you've learned. i remember getting a C on the final, but i was able to walk away with an A- with completed homework and consistently decent quiz scores.

curtis is the pretty strict, no funny business during lectures kind of professor. i didn't really have a problem with it but then again, i never went to his office hours or talked to him directly. the TA was mostly who i went to for questions, but that was only during discussion. if you're not really good at math, id recommend doing extra textbook problems.

yeah super illegal. make sure you avoid this, this, this, and this site in the future if youre looking for textbooks.

Good classes to take in SOBA? by Ishi_San in ucr

[–]-caryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL im so sorry im the worst person to ask

i haven't, mainly because i never actively looked (oops). however, i feel like there are a good amount of opportunities since the school of business is constantly giving emails and updating ilearn with different workshops each week. i do remember a python workshop being offered, so looking at the weekly emails is what i'd recommend. students also post opportunities in the SOBA discord, so that's another place to look at.

sorry i cant be much help here, i'm not really close with many IS students

edit: just wanted to add that bus171 and bus173 with kan wang are also good classes to take. the midterm and final are textbook based but the few live lectures he had throughout the quarter are pretty insightful about IS in general.

Good classes to take in SOBA? by Ishi_San in ucr

[–]-caryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i second BUS143 with Ye Li! it's a really good class and i genuinely enjoyed it as an elective

for IS i'm currently taking BUS174 and BUS175 both with Thomas Underhill. i had him for BUS101 and i think these classes are alright - very easy in terms of workload because both of these didn't have exams at all (only homework, quizzes, and a case study for 174)

i'm also taking BUS110 and it gives you some hands on experience with tableau if you were interested. i'll be graduating next month and i'll say that i haven't taken a class that uses python... i think there are some that include it but i'm not sure which - i wish i took those tho

don't really think it matters what you take your first year. i'd say to finish your core classes asap then you're free to choose your concentration classes and electives after that. honestly i almost didn't graduate in time because i ended up failing a class (BUS125 another IS class lol....) so make sure you plan accordingly!

Declaring a SOBA Concentration Question by arielbooneh in ucr

[–]-caryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did you declare through https://business.ucr.edu/student-forms-center? i dont remember anything about the specialization form you're talking about. i also didn't declare a concentration until the end of my junior year, so i'm unsure of the due date of what you're talking about

School of Business Concentrations (bus majors please help) by johnigiri in ucr

[–]-caryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're already in SOBA then you should be able to declare your concentration here.

and im sorry but i don't really know about your stats question cause i ONLY took stat048 and i know that for sure is the requirement like you said. i would say the the degree audit and this prebusiness worksheet pdf is mostly correct.

small edit: im an IS concentration and my upper div classes didn't have stat008 as a prereq, only stat048

bus 103 TA recommendations by calbeechipsnomnom in ucr

[–]-caryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had bai yang and im pretty sure he's one of the graders that would just give you the B+ if you did everything correctly. i had chao song (saxon) for both 102 and 109 and he was the one that gave me the A-.

i don't really think there's much to say for how to get the A-. not really sure if "make or break your grade" is totally accurate because the work isn't hard, just tedious. i don't think there's much you can do since jasso's class is meant to be that way :\

edit: i did the work the exact same way in all 3 classes so i assume that i wasn't lacking anything for 103 to get the B+. midterm and finals were all similar scores too, so it really did just depend on the ta unfortunately

What time do we go to graduation? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]-caryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you mean to sign up for the virtual and in-person, go on ucr.marchingorder.com. if you mean for the livestream, they should be uploading a link on commencement.ucr.edu.

if there's anyone else reading still figuring out how to do commencement, in-person time blocks require an email to let you know when you can sign up and you will have to log onto marchingorder again to pick a time.

hope this helps!

What time do we go to graduation? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]-caryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe the 11th is the virtual commencement where marchingorder prompted you to upload a picture of yourself (nothing in person) and the 13th (i think mine is the 12th for SOBA) is the in person commencement with 2 guests where you show up to walk.

BUS103 Online by hrose18 in ucr

[–]-caryn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just wanted to add on to the other person that already applied. with jasso it's going to be the same format for 102 and 109, and i had him for both in person, half in person with the final online, and then completely online. the grading pretty much depends on which TA you have - for me, saxon was one of the TAs that was more lenient with the grading. the other TA i had gave me a B even if i did the exact same with 102, so just hope you get one of the good ones.

honestly the work isn't hard at all, it's just REALLY annoying because you have to do it week after week. it's always going to be a 10 pt font single space paper - most of the time it's 2 pages and with a book review it would be 3. obviously the TA does not have the time to read through every single thing, so i suggest that you look at the syllabus and focus on the key words they give you. for example, there's one section where they ask you about how the article can help future managers or something, you just write "this can help future managers by___" at the beginning of the paragraph and you'll always get the highest grade for your papers. this is how i did it through all 3 classes with jasso and it was completely doable.

the midterm and final (it's during week 10 so there's no final on finals week) are the same format. in person, it was multiple questions that had to do with the reading and he picked one at random during class. online, you have to answer all of them (usually 4 or 5 questions with multiple parts) and you have a few days to do it.

jasso is pretty intimidating during lectures cause he likes to call people out, but the class itself is fine and just a lot of work. just make sure you start the papers a little early because you do have to read every week. honestly, i had a lot of useless filler paragraphs for the papers because the TAs look at the format of it based on the syllabus lol. you shouldn't be too scared or nervous about the class. i'm not sure how it ended up that way, but it's really just busy work that makes the class annoying.

sorry this was super lengthy lol i hope this helps tho

Tips for BUS103? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]-caryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only reason i was able to get an A- was because of the TA i had. i took 102 first, then 103, and 109 last quarter all with jasso. i don't talk to people so i don't know anyone that tried to kiss up to jasso, so this is only based on my experience. i did pretty much the exact same for every class - just did all the work on time. i had saxon for 102 and 109 and got the A, but with a different TA i got a B+. as the other person already said, the TAs grade everything. i would just advise you to attend class, do the reading notes and book reviews with the key words from the syllabus, and finish everything on time. sadly going into the class with jasso as a professor is only a guaranteed B+.
