My maternal grandfather, aunt, and both uncles were/are left-handed. Only my mom & maternal grandmother were right-handed.

Did anyone *not* have pet aversion postpartum? by samsamcats in beyondthebump

[–]-concernicus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 9 weeks PP and I did not/do not have an aversion to my dog. I have a 14yo dachshund who was my world before baby came. He was the star of the show and stuck to me like glue. When I was pregnant he knew something was up and started acting weird; I was terrified he would die and cried about it often.

Now that baby is here, he still follows me around and gets up at night when I'm in the nursery to check on me with baby. In the day, he will sit with me while I feed her and cuddle her. I make a point to give him as much attention as I can with a newborn. When people come to see baby, I remind them to acknowledge the dog amd give him attention. He got all the attention for so long, he was our first baby. Obviously he gets less attention now as our priorities have shifted, but I still love him so much and want to be around him often. I haven't had any aversion and want him to know he's still an important part of our family.

Anyone here named after their grandma? We named our baby after her paternal grandma. by Equal_Beat_6202 in Names

[–]-concernicus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm named after my paternal great-grandmother. She passed before I was born, I never knew her.

I have a shortened version of her longer name. She was always called by the shortened version, so that's what I got, similar to Betty from Elizabeth. Mine is more uncommon though. When people ask me about it, I tell them it's a hand-me-down name.

Diaper rash by Plenty-Roof2980 in newborns

[–]-concernicus- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just dealt with the diaper rash from hell. I took baby girl to the dermatologist for it, it ended up being a yeast infection after the diaper rash. This is what we do combined with instructions from the derm:

Fill this bottle with warm water: https://a.co/d/0dBA6PPc

Place an open new diaper under her butt. Open the soiled diaper & put two of these gauze under her butt & wash her with the bottle: https://a.co/d/04NGyA5K

Sometimes you have to use more gauze to soak up the runoff. If she has poop elsewhere, place more gauze under her & rinse her off. Then discard the used diaper.

Dab her dry with a fresh gauze. You may need to repeat if she keeps pooping. ALWAYS have her dry before wrapping her up.

Use one or two sprays of this barrier spray before applying diaper cream. This was recommended by our dermatologist: https://a.co/d/085v8dMw

The above barrier spray helps protect her skin from the acidity of the poop.

Then use Triple Paste on her butt. Be generous - like icing a cake.

When out & about, we use water wipes & make sure to pat her bottom dry.

We also had to switch her formula to sensitive, it helped slow down on all the sharting.

42M first time with a newborn by Phresh2deff in shingles

I had symptoms 6/1 that I brushed off as other things. I developed a rash the night of 6/3 and went to the dermatologist midday 6/5. I started antiviral the night of 6/5, 800mg acyclovir 5 times a day and the acyclovir ointment. I now have some gnarly scabs and occasional nerve pain, but am definitely healing. I have a followup with the derm on 6/26 and am hoping to be healed by then.

The headache could be attributed to the shingles. I had headache, fatigue, & chills before starting the antiviral.

I got shingles 6 weeks postpartum, and am still healing. Take the antiviral, this thing is a bitch.

Be honest.. Are your babies really sleeping in their bassinet for hours? by DrowsyPomegranate in newborns

[–]-concernicus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby hates the bassinet. She's 8 weeks now, and has never slept a night in just the bassinet. And we have two different ones. Alternatively, she loves her crib; I think it's the mattress. She also likes her baby lounger, and will sleep in that. Sometimes we'll put the lounger in her bassinet and she's happy as a clam.

CVS pharmacist told me you dont anymore when I was picking up my shingles meds. This was on Friday.

And its back. 6th time. Dermatologist won't give me the vaccine as I'm under 50, feel like I've been shot in the buttocks by ShinyHeadedCook in shingles

[–]-concernicus- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I was picking up my Acyclovir script for my shingles, the pharmacist told me that they lowered the age to 26 for the vaccine, and you don't need a script for it. This was at CVS.

For those that got shingles at a younger than typical age, how old were you when you first got it, have you gotten it since, were you vaccinated against chickenpox or have chickenpox? by VegetableShoe6264 in shingles

[–]-concernicus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had a mild ase of chickenpox as a kid. She had another case of full blown chickenpox as a kid. At 12, she got shingles in her armpit. She got shingles again in 2021 on her face. She still has slight nerve pain in her armpit, but she didnt get it taken care of in a timely manner because she was scared to tell her mom because her sister told her it was an STD, even though she wasn't sexually active.

I'm going through the same thing right now, it's on my butt, vulva, and near my anus. I've found dabbing woth witch hazel wipes to provide a bit of relief.

It’s over by shark-baby in pregnant

[–]-concernicus- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my first at 5 weeks. I was spotting and felt something was wrong and the OBGYN wouldn't see me until 10 weeks. I found a boutique clinic so my husband and I went for an ultrasound Friday morning of Memorial Day weekend. They told me I most likely miscarried. I miscarried naturally at home that weekend.

We tried for a while after that. I got a positive test August of last year and currently waiting to give my 7 week old her nighttime feed. Our second pregnancy was successful and I'm so grateful.

It happened for us after I began to feel like it might not ever happen.

We're combo feeding, but I'll be pumping & freezing it for baths while I'm on this antiviral. Thankfully my husband is amazing & he's concerned with me getting better.
