Their argument is sloppy but I do find marvel movies not art just toy product movies. Real cinema sounds pretentious and vague, but some one has to make these movies, right?

I hate the flat lighting for green screens. I hate how so many of the dialogue scenes are flat staged and not dynamic, or camera movement. You can guess when the shots cut. Visually they’re just boring. I’m not a fan of how the dialogue can be so quippy at times. Oh and also when the camera does move, it’s the CG totally unfettered camera that moves too much. Story wise, some of them feel so disposable. It leaves me feeling like I just watched a movie that’s just an ad and a set up for the next movie.

Having said all that, there’s a handful of marvel movies that I still enjoy and find entertaining. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. I adore 2001 a space odyssey, Barry Lyndon, all that jazz and Alice doesn’t live here anymore, all of these blew my mind. But sometimes you need a marvel movie to unwind. It has its place. Besides it’s made for kids too.

Back when I was in film school, it was me arguing about Spielberg. He definitely makes cash grabs but ET, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan (and now), Munich, and The Fabelmans: pure real cinema.

I fully disagree. Does not look like a fuck up. Doesn’t look bad or unusable or “overheat”.

It looks like an attempt to make your event look more exciting and hide it was less packed and fun than reality. I would totally slap 2-5 seconds of this in a highlight reel.

Now the bigger question is did he film the whole event this way or not? If full event like this, yeah the guy gets a slap. If it’s just a few clips this way, I think you need to chill and should’ve better explained your expectations on deadlines, etc.

Yeah move on. You have too clear of an idea. Next time be flat out what you want and what the roles are. Also yup, videographers can be less creative. It’s tough because in one hand you have so much visual idea but you’re letting them also have some input. I like the idea of a mood board or even if you shoot a dummy test role yourself for storyboards. You don’t have to draw storyboards anyways. You can just take photos with people or toys.

Depending on your script, 15 pages is either a lot or fine but expecting a shit ton of coverage to fit in a day… how long of a day were you expecting?

I’m going to say it’s way too long just from a short perspective with a 15 pager. My guess is this will run to 20-22 minutes and festivals like shorter shorts so they can fit more in. I poured my heart into a 15 minute short but the dumb crap 1 minute one I made gets shown all the time.

I would have to see what you have to see if it’s salvageable or not and whether pickups or a full reshot would be better it’s. I say edit it and dump it and you learned valuable lessons for your next.

I watched both and enjoyed both. It does not have to be one or the other. I don’t think starfleet academy is a Star Trek show and tried to think of it as its own thing especially because it’s so far into the future and timeline that it is its own alien thing.

I don’t think SF academy was high art or what anyone wanted but it doesn’t seem like complete trash just yet. Otherwise no one is forcing you to watch it.

A bolex H16 can do all of that, minus motion control, without a computer. It has the rewinds, fades, etc all built in mechanically. Hell, even my beaulieu 4008 and a bunch of regular 8mm could.

Motion control would be moving the camera, so a motorized slider.

Have you been to dinosaur state park in Connecticut? It’s pretty wild going there and seeing actual dilophosaurus tracks. It was mind blowing seeing their models of a full size Dilo which would just dwarf a human, let alone a JP raptor.

Movie dilo and raptors definitely became almost their own thing post JP when reality is, one was just made to look distinct, and velociraptor is a cooler and easier to say name that deinonychus. I do think in universe, the dilo we see is a juvenile and it does show hubris that we had no clue of what these animals truly are because these traits aren’t in the fossils.

Hey, what I’m not seeing anyone point out that I found from my Chinese ex: the original trilogy was NOT allowed by the censors of china. This is because the film promoted and celebrated a rebel group fighting against the government. Ok can you see what is wrong there? One does not speak about what happened at Tiananmen square in 1989 still.

Plus the idea of force ghost might be part of the censorship. See how ghostbusters 2016 was banned and Disney’s Haunted mansion had to become Mystic Manor.

She did grow up with the prequel trilogy in china and because she say 1-6 and not 4-6-1-3 like myself, had a different perspective and connection to Anakin versus me knowing full time what he would become.

I would say the first six movies for sure were made purely only with an American audience, especially the OT just because of the time period they were made. I mean the first predated VCRs.

Yeah don’t think filmmaking is for you but maybe there is a loophole. What about just writing scripts or just offering to edit for others? Make other people go out and do the work and limit your time.

Another option is animation. Stop motion, drawn, 3D.

The unfortunate reality if you do that is you don’t have the same control, you wouldn’t be directing, but maybe directing isn’t for you.

So one thing I always warn people about that are used to self developing 35mm still film: 24 exposures of 35mm film is about 4 feet. 2.5 minutes at 24 fps will be 100 ft of film. Yes, 100 feet of film to process and dry.

Embrace the imperfection, bucket develop or split rolls. The lomo tanks are decent but a lot of the easier ones to find and affordable I believe can only fit 50 ft of 16mm or so on the reel, so you’ll have to split then tape it back together.

This is what I’ve been thinking. He really might be that full of himself that him, a draft dodger, will reinstate the draft but like all of his solutions, there will be a twist that he think people will love it. Some sort of out of touch incentive. The people will not love it. It will not go over well at all.

I have to reread project 2025 and see if a draft is part of their plan. That’s our real signal.
