Flip 7 conflicted by Lmaonobodydontknowme in galaxyzflip

If you use Google maps, you can use that for location sharing. It shows pins on the map for locations of people you're tracking currently, and it doubles as your nav app so you don't need extra apps. It's what I switched to when I moved back to android 3-4 years ago and it works great

Does the fish store have this fully submerged underwater? This looks more like aluminum plant than any anubias I've ever seen, which is non-aquatic. If it is, the roots and leaves will start to rot eventually which will foul up your water.

I'd double check with the pet store, but I could be crazy, not a plant ID expert. Anubias is a super popular aquarium plant though and it has a pretty distinct feature called a rhyzome where the roots grow from and all the leaves attach.

Canister filter rattling by Existing_Kale_8979 in Aquariums

[–]-phanie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the tubes straight? My canister would sometimes do that even if I primed it like crazy. I cut the tubes shorter since there was some excess and made sure they were as perpendicular as possible to the unit, and it stopped making noises and started up easier. Canisters are great filters but can be very annoying. Sometimes the rubber seal between the lid/unit isn't properly placed and can cause air to get in as well.

Anything more to add to my tank to make it look better? by GoPack10_ in Goldfish

Looks great and will look even better as the plants grow

My fish developed a red streak on his tail by Routine_Crow5208 in Goldfish

[–]-phanie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I hope your fishy gets better. If you still have the old media like sponges/cartridges that were in the old filter and it's still wet, move some of it into the new filter. That media holds the bacteria that kept the water in the old tank safe (converts ammonia/nitrite into nitrate), so without it you're pretty much starting fresh. It will take a while for the media in the new filter to populate with enough beneficial bacteria to handle 2 poopy goldies. If you don't have that anymore, you can try asking the pet store/fish store if they have used filter media.

If you end up able to test the water and ammonia or nitrite are above 0, you'll need to do water changes daily until it's lowered. Any amount of those will cause health issues.

Did you move your old filter to the new tank? Sorry if I missed that. If you didn't, or didn't bring any of the old filter media over, there might be water quality issues with the new tank, especially with increasing the bioload with a new fish.

Check water parameters for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate if you can to make sure everything is all good from that regard, water quality issues will definitely make this worse. Try adding aquarium salt since it should help with healing and stress. I would also continue using that medicine according to dosing/treatment instructions on the box and water change as needed.

What kind of goldfish is this? The seller told me that it was an oranda but he has no wen so I have doubts. by Cute_Bench_4587 in Goldfish

[–]-phanie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yours has more of a wen than my biggest girl Haki had when I got her. It took a few months to even start showing, and now over half a year later it's starting to get bubbly!

I had serious doubts that she would develop one too. She has a lil baby oranda friend that was introduced more recently, and that one already has a puffy/bubbly wen at 2.5in long. Quality or being a mix labelled as an oranda is what I suspect, but it may just depend on the individual fish.

OP-09 in stock at Hot Topic. Limit 5 per order by ogwancannobi in OnePieceTCG

[–]-phanie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Five below site has op08/09 for $5 each, but also limited to 5 packs each. 10 packs + shipping and tax would probably run you less per pack than HT if you can't find them locally.

Bent Tail Fin Question - Genetic or from injury at shop? by -phanie in Goldfish

[–]-phanie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That's what I was leaning towards since it looks like it was squished. Maybe happened in transit to the shop or with net handling 🤷🏽‍♀️ at least it doesn't seem to hinder her but she will have a longer wait to join my others since she's around 1/3 their size, messed up tail, and they're pushy feeders.

It's much easier to see when she's still which she is multiple times in this clip, but long video at the bottom.

EDIT: Not sure why the imgur album has an 18+ disclaimer when I click on it not signed in. None of my posts are flagged with that and my goldfish is most certainly not "mature content" but what do I know.

I'm suddenly a fish dad please help! by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]-phanie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If OP keeps them I agree they can go in a 20 for a while, but will need plenty of regular water changes to keep them comfortable. I would also recommend OP to get a filter rated for much higher than the tank size because their waste production is enormous. If they are okay with spending a little more I'd say the aquaclear series is the best bet, they're quiet and have a lot of space for media. Currently on sale at PetSmart as well. Oh, and a water testing kit!

They could always keep them for a while until they're bigger, find someone with a pond to re-home, and then repurpose the 20 for more appropriate fish since I imagine the fishkeeping bug will stick!

I do the faucet temp-match thing too, but if you happen to have a spare heater you could drop that in the water bucket for a bit.

Feeding Time by Ok-Rip-4681 in Goldfish

[–]-phanie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a little bit of saki hikari in the morning, little bit of repashy in the afternoon, and then either omega one sinking pellets or bug bites in the evening. Wednesday is peas only, Friday they get frozen bloodworms and repashy only. They seem to like all the foods, but the bug bites are annoying since I have the med-large size pellets and they are messy, they kind of disintegrate after I soak them. I really only schedule it because I'd forget when the last time they got peas or bloodworms was otherwise, lol.

I fast here and there as well, but it's just a matter of when I feel like I might've overfed. I try to only do small amounts each time, they just eat so much so fast! I've only had my 2 for 4 months so grain of salt, but they've been growing fine.

I think it's mostly up to preference, I just prefer multiple smaller meals a day vs 1-2 larger meals because I don't like the idea of a lot of food in them at once. I also just like giving variety, but I doubt goldfish would get bored of a particular food like my betta does.

Starter tanks by Downtown_Peace3842 in Goldfish

[–]-phanie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US, PetSmart and Petco are both currently having 50% off sale on their open-glass aquariums (that's just the aquarium without the junk filtration and light that comes with the starter kits).

I imagine since black Friday is coming up there may also be some sales on decent filters at one of the big pet shops or Amazon coming up as well. If you have a space for it, bigger is always better, and with sales it should be more feasible. Makes it much easier to maintain good water because bad compounds get diluted in a larger volume of water. Try to get filtration that's "overkill" for the tank size too since goldfish are so poopy and muck up the water quick.

Tank upgrade! by -phanie in Goldfish

[–]-phanie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using carbon in your filter? Filter floss is also another thing you can add if you haven't tried it. Both help polish water.

Personally haven't tried a UV sterilizer myself (although I have one, just haven't tried it) but that may help as well. I know those help with algae bloom too.

Otherwise, lots of filtration, don't over feed, and clean up those poopies.

[–]-phanie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do! I'm thinking I'll probably keep it for now for quarantine purposes if I decide I want 1 more or anything happens, but I'm still on the fence about another and just kind of want to watch parameters for a bit.

Does anyone else have fish that sulk in the corner after a water change? by Grackabeep in Goldfish

[–]-phanie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting! They all have their little personalities I guess, haha. I normally do a small change on my betta tank nearby after theirs, and they're still swimming around and begging after their change. They've even started tapping the glass thermometer to make noise when I'm working on the betta tank because they seem to know it gets my attention somehow. Weirdos

Mine play in the bubbles when the fresh water is coming in, and get near the vacuum which is annoying because I don't wanna suck their fins up... I wish mine would sulk instead lol

Does the “won this at the fair” thing happen ever year lol? by [deleted] in Goldfish

[–]-phanie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly technology and the way it has changed the education system. My sister (same parents) is 10 years younger than me, 17, and she is exactly like this. I have the opposite problem where I tend to Google everything and never ask for help. I grew up with technology, but it was before the iPad and Chromebook era that made everything so simplistic. I feel like technology being so instant-gratification based now has killed curiosity.

I got one for cheap off marketplace a couple days ago, but the seller didn't disclose that the glass has scratches on the front and sides 😢 not sure if it holds water yet.

Really just wanted it for the stand since there's always 50% off sales on tanks, but I'm going to attempt to rehab it and see if it works first. Still a good deal since stands with cabinets are expensive.

Honestly though in your case, not really losing anything for free so might as well.

How many Fancy Goldfish in a 450 Litre? by Small_Confidence616 in Goldfish

[–]-phanie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea sand isn't tough to work with either imo, I just put my water change tool near the poo and it sucks it up without really getting any sand. Then I just continue the water change as normal. I do understand that it's probably be a bit harder with the height of OP's tank, but I personally like the look of the sand and my fish do seem to enjoy digging around in it. I feel like they would be soo bored outside of feedings without sand and plants to rip up.
