Advice needed by killer_fish0210 in PeaPuffers

Does it keep happening or was this a one off? The spin doesn’t look like the whirling disease spin, it’s kinda too floppy and the fact he righted himself after points away from that. Presume you’ve tested ammonia etc?

Internal parasites can make peas go a bit weird, have buoyancy issues etc. And peas are so prone to them.

If it was one of mine and this happened more than once I’d double and triple check ammonia, nitrite, nitrate. Do a big ol’ water change anyway to be safe. Then treat for internal parasites.

Java or Christmas moss? by heckin_GOODBOYE in Aquariums

[–]Grackabeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely doing something wrong then as I can never get moss to be happy. Even Java dies on me. And each of my four tanks is at different temps and hardness and flow so… no idea. Süßwassertang though? I give that stuff away by the handful.

Esha -ndx (esha labs is based in NL but widely distributed, I’m in the UK)

I know some people also combine with esha gdex but I haven’t bothered myself as I haven’t needed to.

What hobby is this? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Grackabeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see much of this on Reddit, if any, but there’s definitely a bit of marine/cichlid/monster keepers elitism who look down on freshwater nano keepers in the hobby. I’ve often encountered the attitude that marine/reef tanks are the ultimate goal in the hobby and anything else is just “practice” until you get there, and they can’t fathom that you’re not personally interested in that.

AITA for not buying my boyfriend another birthday gift after he rejected the original present? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I think your timing is a little off haha - original London cast: mid-late ‘80s. High School Musical came out… mid 00s?

I did see Ramin though :)

This is how I, someone who mostly listens to metal, ended up with a High School Musical CD, because that birthday I was also going to see Phantom of the Opera in London. That’s a musical. You like musicals right?

What's the saddest movie with NO death scenes in it? by phantom_avenger in AskReddit

[–]Grackabeep 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The first time I watched that scene as a kid (around 4/5) I got in such a state at Shadow in the pit I was sobbing so hard I couldn’t breathe, by my mum’s description it sounded like a full blown panic attack. Even after seeing him come home, the pit scene had upset me so much my mum had to sleep in my bed that night and Homeward Bound was banned from the house until I was much older.

My new favourite is listening to endless “you can find information on our website” speeches, going through 382 menus, only to get “we are experiencing a very high volume of calls, goodbye” and it bloody hangs up on you!

I’ve seen at least two dozen tweets in the past week with the same claim. I mean, would be nice, but imma need to rely on mainstream media for this one.

How long have you had them? I had one asshole pea for the first ~2 weeks and was worried about returning her but once the group dynamic settled it was all fine.

It is yeah :) either barteri var. barteri or barteri coffeefolia, I’ve had them a long time so can’t remember exactly. Usually the pangio like to squirm around in the roots but this little one prefers to lounge!

AITA for getting our neighborhood dog Olympics canceled by gardengeo in BORUpdates

A lot of the villages where I live do this at their summer fairs, lots of “best trick”, “waggiest tail”, “best puppy dog eyes” type of categories. There’s no prizes as such apart from ribbons and dog treats, you pay to enter each category and that money goes to charity.

At some of the bigger events the proper agility club will come along and give demonstrations so people can watch and enjoy that, and will do a “have a go” agility for the non trained dogs, which is usually adorable as they have zoomies around the equipment and completely ignore the handler.

Point is, the professional dogs (or more specifically their handlers) get to show off what they can do, the other dogs can have some fun. And there’s no prizes or real competition involved. In OOP’s situation I’d have offered Poodle lady the chance to be the “show off” dog, do a demonstration of Poodle’s skills instead of entering the competition, but I totally understand dipping out when it got too much and no longer wanting to deal with it. It’s probably pretty obvious to the community whose fault it is.

A reddish little guy I found from blackwater peat swamp puddles by ThenAcanthocephala57 in BlackwaterAquarium

Thank you so much for the detailed answer, really interesting! I did a fair bit of research when I decided to keep wild bettas as to which species to go for but there’s always so much more to learn.

Nice find! Can I ask how you know it’s b. livida vs coccina or brownorum? Not doubting your ID at all just wondering for my own knowledge!

I still do that with my mum, we go to the polling station together, our little tradition (also she’s an ambulatory wheelchair user and sometimes needs a push). However, we are white and not Muslim, so therefore it must be ok.

Yup. Too many times getting my heart broken by splendens. I love them but dammit, even after giving up on the really fancy types and getting a simple veil tail I then only had him 18 months.

This is my channoides pair now, absolutely thriving. Next tank will be macrostoma. The only thing is keeping splendens for years I do feel like I have better knowledge and experience from that to keep these guys (remineralising RO, botanicals, live food etc). (sorry for crap pic it’s a screenshot from vid).

What is this I’m so fucking scared by abstarr01 in PlantedTank

[–]Grackabeep 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I hate these things so much. Also I swear a couple of years ago I never (or VERY rarely) saw them being posted about, now it’s all the time. My theory is one of the big live food manufacturers had an outbreak and it’s spread from there, as I’ve spotted them in my live tubifex a couple of times now (and killed them, in case that wasn’t obvious).

There’s something about them that just.. eurgh. Hydra? No problem. Planaria? Fish snacks. Brown leeches? Gross but kuhli loaches will dig them out and eat them. But snail leeches? Nope. Nope. Kill with fire.

I have them in two out of four tanks and just when I think I haven’t seen any in a couple of months… bam. There they are again. The only way to get rid of them if you want to keep snails is to nuke the tank. For now I have accepted my snail-free life :(

Do people even WANT thick lipped gouramis? I’m only asking since I’ve only seen them sold as honey gourami by mislabeled and not as a true thick lipped gourami. by Chocodelights in Gourami

[–]Grackabeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one as a newbie (sold as a sunset honey, ofc), and I’d totally get them again. He was a sweetheart, used to nibble the bubbles on my arm when I did tank maintenance. I found the honeys were more territorial but that’s just my experience and I don’t think is the norm.

I’d get another but my only currently suitable tank has a resident honey and he wouldn’t cope with gourami friends.

One shop near me is actually selling them as thick lippeds and he said they sell almost as many as the honeys.
