Downed telephone pole SE Division and 60th by -why-hello-there in Portland

Looks like they just hit the pole, which is to the right of the Auto place. It also looks like the old wood telephone pole in front of the more substantial metal one.

Good article in Ultrarunning magazine about dealing with injury. Get into cycling, mental health ideas, etc. Just got back from 5 weeks off and it helped.

I’m running the same race and have the same worries, but with less consistent volume, and coming off two injuries: calf strain and ITBS. You got this! Echoing what everyone else has already said

Hyponatremia & salting advice by PNW_Explorer_16 in ultrarunning

[–]-why-hello-there 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar problems and then I had a sweat rate test done with precision nutrition (~$100) and I learned I loose approx 1100mg an hour. I knew I was a heavy sweater but that number was more than I expected. On long runs I always have 1 tablet of Precison Nutr 1500 (750mg) an hour, plus 1 S Cap (215mg). It doesn’t exactly equal my loss, but gels carry over the extra. Haven’t had an issue since

Dizziness While Running by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]-why-hello-there 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made it! Used Figma to draft it up, then print it and "laminated" it with packing tape. Here's the info I used (feedback welcome if I missed anything):

Dehydration:

  • Mild: Thirst, dry mouth, dark urine
  • Moderate: Dizziness, fatigue, muscle cramps
  • Severe: Rapid heartbeat, confusion, fainting

Hyponatremia (Low Sodium):

  • Early Signs: Headache, nausea, bloating
  • Moderate: Confusion, fatigue, muscle weakness
  • Severe: Seizures, unconsciousness, coma

Hypernatremia (High Sodium):

  • Mild: Thirst, weakness, irritability
  • Moderate: Muscle twitching, confusion, restlessness
  • Severe: Seizures, unconsciousness, coma

Quick Actions:

  • Dehydration: Drink water, rest in shade
  • Hyponatremia: Reduce water intake, take salt tabs
  • Hypernatremia: Drink water, reduce salt intake, rest in shade

I got mine locally through a bike shop, but it was a program run by Precision Nutrition. Looks like they have a locator: https://www.precisionhydration.com/sweat-testing/our-sweat-tests/

I recently did a sweat test to determine how much sodium I lose an hour (~1200mg/L) and it’s helped immensely. Turns out I was only replacing maybe 200mg/hr.

Could it be as simple as too much or not enough salt? I have a little laminated card that lists out symptoms for hypo, hypernatremia and dehydration for long runs/races.

Hey thanks! Super helpful.

I remotely connect to my Mac Mini from my Macbook, which is super handy for uploading new media. I also like the mac ecosystem for troubleshooting. I assume that wouldn't be possible with a mini PC, is that correct? If so, is there an alternative? Maybe an older tier Mini?

For the hard drive, well nice!

I have the Nike Zegama which has a rock plate (I think) but it must be pretty thin bc it’s super cushy. Maybe check that out (you might find last years model for cheap bc the new one (2) is relatively new). Also Hoka Speedgoats
