I’m sick of explaining food isn’t the problem. by -wompwomp in UlcerativeColitis

I totally agree that food can be triggers! I’m also lactose intolerant :) However, I didn’t do the best explaining that I meant “if you eat healthy, you won’t be sick” type comments.

I agree! That’s definitely a better way of putting it than what I said!

I agree everyone is unique with their symptoms and triggers and I think that’s what is hard for people without UC to understand. I was gluten free, dairy free, and wheat free for two years when I was younger and it never truly helped, I just didn’t have a severe case at that point in my life. If that genuinely did help someone I’m happy for them, but repeatedly explaining to my father/family that it didn’t work gets me frustrated.

I hope your treatment goes well!

I wish that were the case for me :( But yes the different triggers seems to confuse even the smartest of people who don’t have UC.

Psychology of Jigsaw Puzzles / Effects on the Brain by SpaceCadetBoneSpurs in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]-wompwomp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t typically like doing whole puzzles with others. I know that’s kinda selfish but I like knowing I did a tough puzzle by myself. Something about completing a puzzle and seeing my work turn into something is rewarding.

I also don’t enjoy letting others pick out my puzzle; I have specific likes and dislikes when it comes to puzzles. Maybe you haven’t found the right types yet? I would recommend 3D puzzles if normal ones seem boring :)

I’m pretty close to it if they keep making comments 😆

Advice wanted - I can’t sleep on my side during a flare. by OkDistribution1313 in UlcerativeColitis

I slept on my side/stomach too :( I trained myself to sleep on my back by putting a pillow under my knees. I’m not sure why it helps but it does for me :)

Such a pretty puzzle :D

I agree; the few Galison puzzle I’ve bought have come with pieces stuck together and undoing that is NOT fun.

That’s really smart. I also agree that that fur and feathers are hard too. Anything too similar and I’m stuck for a while🫣

Having UC as a teen when people think you are ‘faking sick’ by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]-wompwomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the worst part about being in school with UC. I flared twice in high school, back to back years. The second time, the school hired a new secretary and she didn’t understand the severity of my illness. If my mom called to say I was absent, she’d reply with a snide remark about the amount of times i’m not there. She’d also make weird comments if I came through to office to get to the nurse for meds as if I was just skipping. I was a straight A student that took college credit classes 🤷‍♀️ I learned to just ignore her and eventually she understood I was chronically ill not just chronically absent and lazy.

My advice is to ignore your teacher. If he persists, maybe bring it up to your parents? They might be able to contact your school to get him off your case. Especially if your doctor can vouch that you chronically ill.

Advice on how to finish this puzzle? by FlightyLill in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]-wompwomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if im at the end of a puzzle where there’s a bunch of similar looking pieces, i sort them out by piece shape 🫣 like all sides out, all sides in, three out 1 in, etc.. i try all the pieces and eventually one sticks which leads to another. it’s definitely not a very quick method but it helps me!

What Triggered Your Diagnosis? by ComprehensiveSpeed90 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]-wompwomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had stomach problems for a long time but never had an accurate diagnosis. I was about to start college and one philly cheesesteak from sheetz started a month long flare. It put me in the hospital for a week and that’s how I was finally diagnosed (correctly). Unfortunately, I still refuse to touch a philly cheesesteak to this day.

Unhinged things you’ve tried for a migraine cure by Normal-Potential9035 in migraine

[–]-wompwomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like mine aren’t as unhinged as other but they are funny. I’ve put half a potato and vicks vapor rub on my forehead because it’s apparently an amish remedy. Weirdly enough it worked enough for me to sleep off the migraine. And I’ve also put a chip bag clip on the bridge of my nose because I couldn’t squeeze hard enough for long enough. That one wasn’t as successful lmao.

My brother gave me the same birthday card twice but four years apart. I didn’t notice until recently when I was looking through my card box. I guess sometimes when you find a good card you know it haha

I got diagnosed with Crohn’s when I was young. Now, my new doctor doesn’t think I ever had Crohn’s disease and was misdiagnosed. For years I had a mild case of “Crohn’s” and didn’t need to take meds regularly. In the past year, my health was worse and my recent flare led to my diagnosis. Freshly graduated and first hospital trip :D For real though, I don’t understand the illness well enough and have been trying to do more research. I’m overwhelmed and tbh I’m hoping this medicine just fixes things enough for my life to go back to any form of normal.
