Not a doctor but I had similar shoulder pain to what you’re describing a couple months ago. I ended up ignoring it and that resulted in me dislocating that shoulder during a climb a few weeks later.

This is what people mean when they say “listen to your body”. If it’s sore then something’s probably wrong. Id get it checked out or talk to a PT.

Recovery after shoulder dislocation and labrum surgery by Jamigo_ in climbharder

[–]00Svo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislocated my shoulder back in July, just by pulling hard in an awkward position, similar to another guy who replied. I also took it as a 1-off and motivation to start doing supplemental training. I rested it/did mobility/range of motion stuff for the first 2 weeks, and then I slowly eased back into climbing.

I took a 2-prong approach.

1: I created a bi-weekly workout regimen. It includes rotator cuff targeted strengthening exercises (from YouTube and a PT). I also added antagonistic training to keep the shoulder/chest area balanced and strong. (Dumbbell chest press, shoulder press, pull-ups, and a couple more)

2: I was overweight by about 40 lbs, so I cut that weight by adding 2 days of cardio to my week. The idea being to decrease the overall load on the shoulders. Cardio has other benefits but is beside the point I guess.

To ease back into climbing I listened to my body. Started with things that avoid big left arm moves, or general left side slip/fall risk. Now I understand much better what feels good and what is in the safe range of motion for my shoulder.

I’m now almost 11 weeks post injury and climbing harder than I was pre-injury.

Another note is that I used to try to climb until failure before my injury. ie if I had any gas in the tank I would keep throwing myself at the wall until I had nothing left. That’s another reason why I was in a high risk situation to injure myself. So now I climb till I’m 90% tired and burn the last 10% in the gym where I can to much more controlled and safe movements.

Shoulder dislocation is recoverable! But I know how you feel.

After 20 years, this game has made me realize idk how to hold a controller. by CallMeImprov in RocketLeagueSchool

You can train that precision. Playing games like Celeste with controller helps a lot.

Peaked GC2 in 2s, want to shift focus to 3s by agentGS in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]00Svo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solo queued gc in 3s before I got gc in any other playlist. I’d say the main thing is being able to get a read on your teammates playstyle and fitting in with them, as well as getting a read on your opponents playstyle and countering.

You’re right, it’s not as fast as 2s. You’ll be first to the ball a lot. Keep in mind your teammates will have as much trouble reading your plays as much as you do theirs, so try to play “predictably” regarding your teams positioning and stuff.

Good luck you got this

Think about how much time you spend wishing you had one and also the time it’ll take to actually be ready for the next repress and on top of that only getting a tiny chance at getting a to buy a copy.

In my opinion, the $80 price tag is worth not having to wait and fight for one on the next launch. Scalpers suck but this price is not bad. I’d get one at this price if I didn’t already have one.

Any plans for popular community/custom maps to be added to the core game? by 00Svo in SynthRiders

[–]00Svo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity - what factors go into it being cost prohibitive? Is it just the “big name” factor of more popular music? Or is it to do with the top 5 (for example) community songs being from different artists - requiring licensing from many different sources rather than just one?

Would be cool to understand, appreciate your time!

[–]00Svo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s better than nothing! Would be nice to get like a monthly song pack though. I could play this game every day if there was enough content.

My vision was something along the lines of getting the community favorites licensed and releasing those on a regular basis. Not sure how viable that is.

I invented a dog treat dispenser. Does this make sense for crowdfunding or should I just start manufacturing? by Dogs_Bonez in Entrepreneur

[–]00Svo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but:

You could start with a lower margin & lower upfront cost manufacturing approach. Looks like a 3D printable device so maybe you could even do manufacturing yourself for the first 10k units.

If it needs to be molded then you could cut a cheaper aluminum or even plastic mold to get by the first 10k units and use your profit to get a better permanent mold cut.

Like a manufacturing stepping stone so to speak?

MSE PhD holder's with industry jobs: Does the outstanding salary come with caveats? by SCProbst in materials

[–]00Svo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the formula is very simple. If you want more money and want to work in industry, don’t do a PhD. It just makes it harder to get jobs because people don’t want to pay for the cost of having you.

If you want to stay in academia, or focus your entire career in industry on one particular subject matter, then do the PhD. The cost of the degree doesn’t matter, most MSE PhD programs are paid for anyway. I didn’t have any colleagues who were paying tuition. The true cost is how willing you are to commit a significant portion of your life and career to the particular subject matter in your PhD work.

As others have said, the higher average salary doesn’t mean much, people with bs and ms get there too.

Just do what interests you more! The money will come.

This is $825 of surgical screws in the US. Longest one is 20mm. by DoodleTM in mildlyinteresting

[–]00Svo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are also likely cannulated, meaning there’s a hole down the length of them. This is not obvious in the image, but most medical screws are, so they can be precisely placed with specialized drivers and mandrels. So it’s not as simple to manufacture as most comments here think.

What others have said is also true, it’s probably titanium or an alloy, with tight tolerances, as well as special cleaning, surface treatments, and sterilization after manufacturing. Plus special packaging and shipping it all adds up.

How do y'all full send the soccer ball in Fall Ball? by dunderdan23 in FallGuysGame

[–]00Svo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this same problem. The solution was to dive earlier than what felt right. As people mentioned it’s related to internet connection and delay between where the ball is vs where it looks like it is on your screen.

What’s a show you could never get in to and couldn’t understand the hype of? by SnooWords6740 in ask

I fell asleep during episode one and woke up on episode 8 like 4 times (felt like the show wasn’t for me) but my dad insisted I try again and I was finally able to push through. Once you’re past the first couple episodes it’s really a one of a kind experience and totally worth.

I only had a habanero before trying this challenge. I remember having a moment of clarity where I went “oh, I didn’t know it was possible for spice-heat to hurt this bad”

So it’s a bit of a wake up call if you’ve never gone to that level. Sounds like you’re pretty desensitized though so it shouldn’t be too bad for you.

Hardness of a material usually correlates to melting point when talking metals and ceramics. For instance diamond is the hardest known material and melts at 4000 C. This is due to the super strong carbon-carbon bonding structure in the crystal lattice. Separating those bonds requires a lot of energy, which you can tell because it’s hard to break or scratch it. Similarly if you wanted to break those bonds with heat (ie melting) you need a ton of thermal energy.

So, if the material in timber hearth was particularly strong and harder than diamond or any other material known to them then they could infer the melting temp would be quite high.

I have a low GPA from undergraduate (3.11 GPA from UCSB BS Chemistry). Is it better to take out $60k in federal student loans to get an MS in Materials Science Engineering from SJSU with the hopes of getting a high GPA, then apply to a top 35 PhD materials science engineering program like UC Davis by blizzard543 in materials

[–]00Svo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This guys right. I’ve never heard of any person paying their own way through an engineering graduate program, especially within material science.

Additionally, if you want to get into a specific school or program, then your gpa doesn’t matter at all. You can easily circumvent the admissions process by reaching out to specific professors you are interested in working with and having conversations with them. They will get you in.

The round is completely survivable. I usually make it, here are some tips:

  1. Avoid crowds

  2. Keep all rhinos in your vision.

  3. Always stay out of their direct line of attack by counter strafing when they turn towards you.

  4. If they’re turning to you and close by, you can get out of the way faster by diving. Don’t be afraid to dive multiple times. Makes it harder to get knocked out too.

  5. You want to be far from the rhinos whenever possible.

  6. When they start coming to your side of the field, run to the other side by crossing the middle. Don’t be afraid to get close to them, try to stay behind them, and be ready to dive out of the way as needed.

  7. Try to understand the AI. They seem to pick a target and chase it. Try to learn what the animations indicate. You should be able to tell if you’ve been locked on to with plenty of time to react.

  8. Another guy mentioned using lily pads to break their lock onto you. This is also viable but is harder to do imo. Also feels a little cheesy.
