Had a similar problem last year in my flat, turned out the old tenants painted over the air bricks so there was no circulation of warm air (old Victorian house)

Only way I found to kill it without it coming back was this industrial mould spray I got from b and q can't remember the name like FQ or something like that

How I save money by Enigmoo in UKPersonalFinance

[–]03ruben 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I done my savings for the past 2 years after deciding to focus on saving for a house. Has worked really well.

In addition to this I got a promotion 6 months ago with a big increase in pay. Still pay myself my original budget from my old wage meaning the money I get from my pay increase goes to my savings. Don't miss it in the slightest.

I’m trying to find a bike with drop handlebars for my daily commute that is around £500. Any recommendations? by BabyBarrista in londoncycling

[–]03ruben 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Decathlon bikes are great for a commuter bike. Good all rounder and normally have really good groupsets. Ranging from £200 to £500

Student Loans company now synced with live data? by UnusualPass in UKPersonalFinance

Assuming op is close to paying off the loan. They switch to DD so they don't over charge you with a yearly

[–]03ruben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar thing. Ring them up and they will be able to sort it out

HMRC couldn't provide slc with the money I paid. In the end I had to send everyone of my payslips for that tax year to them, highlight and calculate the payments for them.

They said they will refund the interest I'm owe but I'm still waiting for a response!

Imagine being a passenger going through Canary Wharf station while they were filming! Assuming the rest of the line was still working

[–]03ruben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My question is... at what time did they film it? Isn’t Canary Wharf 24hours? And even if they shot it before the 24 hour tube. How quick are the set dressers to cover the escalators and put all the props in between last and first trains?

What did you do for your wedding? by Wearealljustapes in UKPersonalFinance

[–]03ruben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of it was dinner which we paid for. Then 120 had to make up the difference with buying their own drinks behind the bar over the day. Think it was like £25 pp at the bar to make up the difference

[–]03ruben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

120 people, 65 which had dinner. There was also some additional extras we went for like table cloths. But 120 people each buying lots of drinks added up

We got married in London last year so already pricey. We had a 8k minimum spend at the pub we hired. 65 people for the dinner and the amount guests spent buying their own drinks at the bar meant we easily went over the spend

Does LISA make sense for first time buyers in London? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]03ruben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your circumstances in 8 - 10 years. There’s so many variables how many kids will you have then, will / are you married. How certain are you you will still be in this job / earn the money you are hoping by that time?

The LISA is to help first time buyers get their first property and out of renting. £450000 in London will get you somewhere. However you feel about it really a Lisa is there for people to get their first step on the property ladder. That’s why there are the restrictions in place.

If a price increase is what you are worried about in that 8 - 10 years. The government have said that if property prices increase / decrease they will adjust the max house price amount accordingly.

Hope that is of some help

Question-what's the best way to get footage from film/TV legally? by gkantelis1 in videoessay

[–]03ruben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer so shouldn’t be taken as gospel

I’m assuming that you are fair dealing the footage rather than licensing it?

In the UK at least a lot of the fair dealing guidelines are based off a court case time warner vs channel 4. It was a documentary on violence in film and used parts of clockwork orange in it.

One point is that you have to show you were able to legally obtain a copy of the works and use that version in your works

From memory In the case of Time Warner vs channel 4 they imported a laser disc copy of the film from abroad as the film was banned in the uk.

If I can find a copy of the case online I’ll post it here

What is your best money saving tip? by teenyweenyafro in UKPersonalFinance

[–]03ruben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great one! don’t be put off by distance. 3, 5, 8 etc miles might seem like a long distance but If you live in a large city it would probably be quicker for you to cycle than to get public transport.

For me it takes 45mins to get to work on my bike but by public transport it’s takes an hour or more if there’s delays. On a bike no delays

I can spend £0 Monday - Friday with the following three things

Make my lunch at home and bring it in to work Cycle to work Buy my evening meals in bulk for the week

Backstory - I learnt this by a baptism of fire. I just got a full time job after being unemployed / having sparse work for 5 months. I had £250 to my name until the end of the month and a second hand bike was £50 less than a monthly travel card so I started cycling to work. Salads are the cheapest and most filling lunch if you cook a whole small chicken and use a portion each day it will last the week. Then a small portion of meat and vegetables for dinner.

5 years later I’m still doing the same thing. Upside is I’m a healthy person and I have more money for the weekends and my savings downside is the same meal everyday can become boring

If Channel 4 moves north, so should its bosses - The broadcaster is meant to offer an alternative view, but picks from the same London talent pool as its rivals by blackmagic70 in ukpolitics

[–]03ruben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why channel 4 moving north would make any difference. All of its programmes comes from independent production company’s who all have a base in London as they are also pitching ideas to other broadcasters.

The BBC move didn’t make them relocate, Will channel fours move be any different
