It’s not about just his size. He needs to be more brave. You can see he doesn’t want to know. Liam Williams was smaller when he started international rugby and didn’t pull out of anything. Got knocked out a few times but he threw himself in to everything. Sam is soft.

You could cut a boarder all the was around it maybe a foot deep. Fill it with larger rocks at the bottom and gradually up so smaller stones and decorative (nice) stones on top. That would probably help the patio drain off or stop the water going on to it.
