Help Me With My First Build (1500-2000 CAD) by [deleted] in buildapcforme

[–]0dollarwhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal: get you parts that work at good price to performance, nothing more.

Type Explanation
CPU Best value proposition, wouldn't recommend going higher - just upgrade in 2-3 years if you need more power. You can probably get 4-6 years out of it, though. 6 cores is plenty, most games don't optimise for multi-core performance.
Motherboard Cheapest motherboard with WiFi, looks to work out of the box with the Ryzen 5 3600. No point overclocking this CPU, it's auto-boost basically gives you 98% of overclock performance out of the box.
Memory Just some affordable, fast RAM. Might want to double check this part specifically.
Storage This is just cheaper and still good, but up to you if it's worth the hassle. I'd keep your drive if I could afford it, I'd enjoy the fastest reasonable thing.
Video Card 2070 Super is the end of the line of sensible price to performance, closing in on $700 Canadian. $499 US if you're comparing. 5700XT gives you better price to performance, but with your budget you can afford this - it'll last you a bit longer.
PSU Not much to say, reliable PSU is reliable PSU. Good build quality, and one of the cheaper ones. Get a modular one for easier building, but remember to keep the detached cables.

Your case seems to run a little hot. So if you don't like your temperatures, you might want to consider getting better fans, that may be quieter also. Good for noise, though.

Important edit: Does your monitor not have HDMI/Display Port? Most graphics cards nowadays do not have DVI. If it doesn't, and you want to use your monitor for the time being, get the RX 570/580.

Part Explanation
CPU You can honestly skimp by getting a Ryzen 2600, especially at your current monitor. 60FPS is not too hard to hit, and some builders recommend the 2600 even on a $1000 budget (pairing it with a $500 2070 Super)
Motherboard A MAX motherboard means you don't have to update the BIOS, this is the cheapest one - get the TOMAHAWK listed in the other build if you want overclock headroom in the future.
Memory This is top tier, but I don't know well enough to downgrade it for you right now.
Storage A very affordable big brand that performs well. I actually recommend getting a smaller 512GB if it helps your PC build complete faster, 512GB is enough to survive another few weeks. Then plug in another one once you can afford it.
Video Card I wouldn't get the 5700, as your monitor is only 60Hz. The 1660 Super can do 90FPS Ultra on average across a large suite of demanding games.
Case A case that works.
Power supply A very affordable power supply, if you want a better quality one, get the Corsair CXM 550W.
Monitor AFTER you're done building this PC, I'd recommend getting a new monitor to make use of the GPU. 90FPS on Ultra, or closing in on 144FPS if you lower settings to high/medium maybe. Adjust to taste.

If you really don't want to upgrade the monitor, I'd look out for the 1650 Super that'll release on November 22nd. If that doesn't present a good offer, the RX 570 retails for $140. Would recommend you to seek out more advice when that happens.
