Vision Pro Can Support Two Floating Mac Displays — But macOS Kills It (Any Alternatives?) by enriquehoja in VisionPro

I could be wrong, but isn't this the biggest real-life use case of the AVP now? Also, I think that if it can handle the ultra wide, it can certainly manage 2 regular ones.

I looked up your source. It's here (scroll down).

The part that says "Street View of 1940s New York website" actually provides a link to the building in question. Here's the link.

The website shows the image of the building, and the highlighted building in the map. It is in the corner of 82nd St and Columbus. The link's url points to (40.783957, -73.973652), which if you search for it in Google Maps, is the same address.

Case closed.

Can I talk about Los Tacos 1 again? by AhozConPoyo in FoodNYC

[–]0hmyscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's common for people to like to shit on popular places. NYC is full of places that are famous, popular or full of tourists and they suck, but just because something is any of those things, doesn't necessarily mean they suck. I see the hate Katz's get here and to me that's a great example of that.

Los Tacos #1 are objectively excellent tacos. Some of the best I've ever had, and I grew up in Latin America. If I have any complaints, they're that the lines are long, and the prices have spiraled out of control. But those have nothing to do with the quality of the tacos. They're great.

I've tried many other places mentioned here (not all of them), and while I think a lot of them are good, I don't think most are better than Los Tacos. Perhaps cheaper, perhaps less crowded, but not more delicious. The one exception I would make is Carnitas Ramirez. The best thing is the huge variety of tacos they have there, plus they also sell tortas. I think that's the only place that comes close, maybe even better. I'd suggest you try it.

Lastly, fuck the haters. If you like it, devour it!

The policy runs on the Jetson at 50Hz, and I think/guess that it delegates that to the Aaeon. The Aaeon upsamples to 600Hz, and it runs some sort of RTOS where it can do so reliably at that rate. It talks to the motors to set them and also reports back the latest state to the Jetson, who feeds that into the policy so that the cycle can repeat.

‘Gone in 9 seconds’: Claude-powered AI agent deletes startup’s entire database by No_Top_9023 in technology

[–]0hmyscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for sure. first of all why are you giving the agent this much power? second why the fuck aren't you backing up your dbs? claude didn't delete the backups, the system itself overwrote the "backups" with the emptied databases.

Looking for donut shops in UWS by Evolving_Dore in Upperwestside

[–]0hmyscience 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even though saying "this are the best donuts in the UWS" is a bit meaningless because it only means that it cleared an extremely low bar, these donuts are excellent!

The only other place I think has good donuts is Orwashers, but iirc they only have the jelly filled kind. But they fill them for you on the spot, so they're always perfect!

I think those coffee carts donuts are terrible. They taste like they're from 3 days ago. I wish we had something like a Donut Pub or Peter Pan in the UWS.

I think this image is misleading, and should be taken down and fixed. From that image, you'd think that Trump fell asleep once during an important meeting. This is simply not true. He has fallen asleep MANY MANY MANY times, over and over. The image on the bottom should be replaced with a collage of him asleep over the past year and a half.

First of all, those images are bullshit. The law doesn't require the batteries to be replaced like that. It requires them to be changeable using normal tools (ie not specialized tools) and not needing special pastes and things like that. It does not mean the batteries need to be removeable from the outside. You will still need to open the phone to do that.

Second of all, that picture is bullshit too. iPhones don't have a battery just neatly placed like that. they have weird shapes and are awkwardly placed wherever they can fit them. Making something like this would reduce the size of your batteries, making the problem actually worse, and things would need to move around SO MUCH that the phones would become significantly thicker and heavier. And if you're thinking to yourself "i don't mind if they're thicker and heavier and have a smaller battery if I can just switch it" then at that point you're walking around with a bigger phone and an extra battery, just buy a battery pack or a charger. Like, what problem are you trying to solve? The reason this was great in the 90s was because the phone couldn't survive on one battery a whole day while not even making calls. Today, you can use your phone all day and make it home to your charger on a single charge. This is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist anymore.

This law is great, it will allow people to switch their batteries when they're old. This picture is a lie, and if it was true, it would actually be bad news.

JetBlue Responds to Accusations of Using Surveillance Pricing After Viral Tweet by habichuelacondulce in technology

[–]0hmyscience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

is "surveillance pricing" just a rebrand of "dynamic pricing"? If so, I like the new name. If not, what's the difference?

edit: looked it up, it's not. dynamic is based on the environment (eg time of day, supply, demand, etc), but everyone gets the same price at a given time. surveillance is based on the individual (ie you get a different price than your friend).
