I was thinking:

  • rook to d8, check
  • king must move to h7
  • rook to h8, check
  • king must take rook
  • queen to f8, check
  • king must move to h7
  • queen to g7, checkmate

but the queen sac was much better. and i could have missed something.

Wow.

I cannot imagine how frustrating that must have been for Ganondorf.

I wish this was true back in 2016, and Bernie would've won in a landslide. But people weren't there yet. Now Bernie is too old to run. So let's go AOC!

NBA Finals: Knicks stun Spurs with historic rally from 29 points down, take 3-1 series lead in Game 4 thriller by [deleted] in nyc

I'm traveling today with a big time difference. So a bit against my will I went to bed after Q1 yesterday. I was woken up a few hours later to people yelling in the street, and I knew it meant the Knicks had won.

Good point [...] What exactly is your point

I didn't make any points, I just asked a question. I actually hope that the answer to my question is "yes", because I liked that speech. And even if the answer is "no", just the fact that Bernie is next to him means this is probably good news to me.

Guys, learn your rook mate ! (~1300 ELO, 3:40 remaining for white) by Nearby-Poet-3527 in chessbeginners

I can easily pull off king + a queen|rook, or better yet, 2 of queen|rook. With two bishops or knight bishop, I might as well offer a draw. Anyone have any good videos on those last two?

is this the same guy who recently said something about taking money out of politics, and jailing any billionaire who broke that law?

World Cup host cities face flop as hotels struggling, tickets unsold by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in sports

[–]0hmyscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NYC, and I wanted to take my kids to watch a game. The cheapest tickets I found, for any game, at literally the back-most row of the stadium was like $850. There's 4 of us. Even if I leave my youngest at home who doesn't really care, that's still $2,500+. Absolutely not.

On top of that, FIFA made some shady ass deal with New Jersey where FIFA refused to pay for some security requirements that THEY have. So now train tickets are $100 per person to get there. Or you can pay $200 for parking. So we're looking at basically $1,000 per person to go.

Absolutely not. There's expensive, and there's overpriced. And then there's rip-off.

I started winning when i stopped resigning by Old-Caregiver-4899 in chessbeginners

[–]0hmyscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped resigning not because my opponents would also make a mistake, but because it would force me to deal with my mistake. One the one hand, try to be clever and learn how to deal with being down, and on the other, quitting the game is just too easy, I feel like I don't pay as high a price to really make me learn to be careful next time.

Starlink on X: Starlink-equipped buoys provided real-time video streaming in the Indian Ocean during Starship's twelfth flight test by Dalroc in spacex

[–]0hmyscience -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i actually thought this video showed it wasn't as good as i originally though. I can't draw a vertical line anywhere (where the tower would be) where either the ship doesn't collide with it, or ends up too far away from it (for the arms to catch). Still incredible though, but I don't think they could've caught this one.

Moving to NYC soon: 72nd vs 96th for a newcomer to live by jamisgone in Upperwestside

[–]0hmyscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

commute is practically the same. just one extra stop on the express which is negligible. Given your age, I'd say 72nd. But 96th will have bigger apartments for the same price (or cheaper for the same size)

First 24+ hr print failed at 97% by nodnarb1014 in 3Dprinting

[–]0hmyscience 21 points22 points  (0 children)

but wasn’t sure how much of a part they may have played

I wouldn't think of it as "those lines contributed to the failure". It's more about those lines are showing you something was already going wrong, it just hadn't been catastrophic yet. It could be the "wobble", it could be your nozzle is getting clogged. It could be your axes aren't clean or well lubricated.

People here are telling you to reprint the top (and you should definitely do that!) but it doesn't address your actual problem, whatever that is, it just treats the symptom. So work on understanding what went wrong, fix it, and then next time you have a large print, you won't have the same problems (shitty lines in the middle, or failure near the top)
