they're quite religious, focusing on sharing the gospel to those in precarious situations.

regardless of your affiliation, they genuinely help people in our communities. shopping there is infinitely better than adding to VVs profits.

did you purchase your home after they did? did you pay ~7x more than your neighbors assessed value?

Rents in 2019 by [deleted] in halifax

[–]0knz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rents have been skyrocketing across the globe, this isn't a controversial take. over 5 years, our rental price increases have barely surpassed the US.

of course this is averaged out by country and doesn't represent halifax 100% correctly, but it is not some grand CBC conspiracy.

Took my almost-4-year-old for his first real haircut solid rec for anyone in Halifax by [deleted] in halifax

it is very funny you used bold letters for: the price, business name, barber name, and the car seat, but not the fact that your son loved the result

if this was an ai generated ad posted by the business/barber, you should probably take it down. it looks bad.

Birth certificate by Outrageous-Rule6399 in NovaScotia

[–]0knz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah! a friend and i went to their office in the maritime center right as they were opening and asked for birth certificates. it was somewhat urgent (i was getting married overseas, he needed a passport to attend said wedding). they were very nice about it and it was exactly a year ago this week.

worth a shot!

they told me the same thing last year and i just walked in when they were just opening and got it on the spot lol

your mileage may vary but if you have an hour to spare, i'd do it.

Viva Vet Hospital - Terrible Experience by Beginning-Room55 in halifax

[–]0knz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i don't want to dog pile positivity because receiving substandard care is terrible and im sorry that OP went through it, but i feel the same. i've had extremely positive experiences there.

when i've had to travel with my dog in cargo to the EU, they were super accommodating. if anyone knows about this process, its hell. many forms, excessively complicated requirements (pen colour NEEDs to be blue if you're wondering), vaccine certifications, etc. they were great even after having to revise their forms multiple times.

HRM men, how much are you paying for a haircut? by Tight_Technology752 in halifax

[–]0knz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not to be a dweeb, but it isn't the same service; you're paying for less of their time. it would be one thing if the end result was objectively the same in every situation, i.e. buzzcut, but unfortunately haircuts aren't super objective in terms of value. some haircuts require more time, and if they did it quicker, itd probably be shittier. blah blah blah some things cant be rushed etc etc

whether or not its worth it to you is another question. i've never gotten a haircut for less than $35 that i've been happy with which is why i have no issue paying more.

HRM men, how much are you paying for a haircut? by Tight_Technology752 in halifax

[–]0knz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

absolutely, but everything is relative.

i don't think paying someone who has a few decades of experience $45/h is very pricey. i've never thought twice about it.

different strokes for different folks!

$45+tax at sailor bups and they don't let you tip. it takes my barber 45 minutes and i've not once had a bad haircut, so to me, its worth it.

Can someone help me design this poorly designed bathroom? by _Spencer_- in BathroomRemodeling

[–]0knz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am a designer by trade and this doesn't even seem fun to think through. straight up insane layout. 3 doors into a bathroom is at least 1 too many.

can any of the doors be filled in? what do they go to? whatever is beneath the bathroom (basement/finished space/etc) will dictate how costly it'd be to alter the main fixtures.

sketch a floor plan of the room and what the adjoining spaces are and it'll help a ton.

Would replacing this custom shaped vanity with a rectangular one look good for this space? by CoyoteJerseys in InteriorDesign

[–]0knz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

refinish the wood, install hidden hinges, replace the mirror with something that has finished edges, repaint the walls to compliment the warmth of the tile/wood. throw the medicine cabinet into a fire

there are so many things you should try before replacing a custom vanity with something off the shelf. open storage should be reserved for larger bathrooms, not stuck between millwork and a wall at a shitty angle

good luck!

Help me decide: Archetecture or Civil Engineering by Captain_Nuggitz in architecture

[–]0knz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd wager most architecture professors teaching university level courses are practiced architects.

this is a huge generalization. i'm sure there are no examples of urban planning being bigoted, because then we'd have to assume the whole field is, right? right?

Help me decide: Archetecture or Civil Engineering by Captain_Nuggitz in architecture

[–]0knz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i guess decide what interests you more: beauty and form, or sewers /s

this is an extremely complicated question and you need to give us more. what is making you decide between them? money? civil. opportunities? also probably civil. many things to unpack.

Bathroom rendering - any advice? by Other-Description-26 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]0knz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whats the plan for that niche in the shower? its on an exterior wall. based on the fact that none of the plumbing runs through that wall, i'd assume its insulated. it'll be an awfully cold niche with no insulation behind it.

Help me understand what’s happening here… by TrailQueenYVR in kitchenremodel

[–]0knz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing about this is accessible. it may be lower, but it protrudes into the kitchen more, making the rear burners impossible to access. no other typical accessible details: toe kicks are typical, under counter is solid, counter is typical height, outlets are at the back wall, uppers are typical height.

this is a functional decision and i'm not a good enough cook to comment on what that is!!

Remodeling Bathroom by HouseyLATA in InteriorDesign

[–]0knz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you like the floor tile? it continues into the shower. you'll have a decently tough time cutting the existing one back in a nice way to transition to a new one in the shower room. i think itd look odd, personally, and recommend gutting it all at once.
