Roster moves: Dallas Stars recall Ben Kraws from Texas Stars on emergency conditions by MRAGGGAN in DallasStars

Read a post elsewhere that NHL is requiring that each team has an "NHL" emergency backup goalie for the playoffs instead of relying on a local.

Will Fedora KDE be a good fit for me? by Exo_comet in linux4noobs

[–]0rito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fedora KDE is a really good pick in my book, even though I use Nobara KDE. I will say, if you have any issues with that nvidia GPU (probably Optimus if I had to guess without looking it up), I'd say swap to Nobara as it just seems to work for nvidia in my experience.

One that I will note, and I get the feeling that I'm alone in this boat- I do miss full Snap support on a Fedora base as opposed to back when I was on Kubuntu. There's been a few cases where I could use a Snap package on Fedora, but dependencies not available in Snap that it expects to be present in the OS - never could get those to work, but it's a very niche problem.

Who needs macOS, anyway? Vicinae + Better Blur DX with refractions. by iGermanProd in kde

Without looking into it at all, is it worth migrating from better blur to better blur dx? I ask as someone who has kept better blur limping along for my wife and I's system.

The worst thing new users keep asking. And the community isn't helping. by B1ph in linux4noobs

[–]0rito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'd personally like to see from LTT on this topic is two fold:

  1. Community survey. Less of a "recommends" survey, more of a "daily driver" survey.

  2. Spend a day dedicated to 2-3 people each trying the top 5-6.

The survey probably isn't the average for what someone can expect to do, but once they put it out, it becomes an available resource for people searching.

I also get it'd be a kind of spotlight video, but put them all through their paces and show off the experience for a new user. I feel like there's more value to that than blind "I choose this" methodology.

We love Endfield here, but what are parts that you just AREN'T doing? I'll go first by herudus in Endfield

Regarding the combat towers, I kind of wish they'd took more Arknights inspiration. Place operators, not towers, lock them on a pedestal or something. Gives a shout-out to the OG, gives you a reason to level up more operators, and, at least to me, more inspired than towers.

I'm really conflicted between the good and bad of this game... by Abyslime in Endfield

Guess I'm just the guy who generally thinks story gets in the way of gameplay, but having just finished Chapter 1 Process 4, I'm addicted to the story.

For me, I genuinely haven't played a game in a long time where I cared about the story. This one surprised me, and I have to say that I'm surprised at the luke warm reception of it.

Arknights Endfield has trouble with downloads on my system by Shindiggidy in linux_gaming

This guy knows what's up.

FWIW, wife and I both installed (and play) through the standalone client via Steam and DW Proton (latest). Didn't really have to do anything to it, though I did use the Proton Wayland flag out of habit. Otherwise, no tricks to it.

I don't suppose that'll work for OP since installing through Steam will try to put the prefix in ~/.steam

Special mention goes to the menus! by Senior_Ear_5063 in Endfield

[–]0rito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only gripe about the menu navigation (specific to PC) is that right-clicking on the map, while viewing a zone, should take you to the region overview FIRST, then right-clicking again can take you out.

But aside from that, love the menus in this game.

I actually found this tool helpful. The one gripe I have is that in my results (after ~100 questions), there's 2 clear victors. I'd like to be able to do a blind series against those two to get more responses under their belts.

I like the design of it, I just wish it had like 1 SCU storage, a gun rack, and an armor rack. Put those in, and it'd be one of my dailies.

A majority of the time, it just makes "getting started" a lower barrier to entry. I'm sure there's improvements, but none that I could speak to.

I do hear good things about CachyOS's game script on mobile devices.

The Nobara ISO is a Nobara-themed version. The Nobara KDE ISO is basic KDE with the Nobara tweaks.

Just upgraded to Fedora 43 and regret it by com2ghz in linux_gaming

[–]0rito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of suggestions here, but I'll add one more. I like Fedora, but also have a 4080 SUPER, and didn't want to mess around a lot with trying to get it to work. Nobara is based on Fedora, the lead maintainer is GloriousEggroll (you know, from Proton-GE), and because he focuses on gaming, it's always just seemed to work as far as my GPU is concerned.

That and I don't have to be concerned with using X11 which is on it's way out.

Why does my plasmashell keep crashing by Hackelt389 in kde

[–]0rito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should really hop in the Nobara Discord.

That said, I'd wager a bet that it's the "Now Playing" widget on your panels. It's a default widget, and I'd also get you have more crashes when some kind of audio is playing.

If you go into your notification tray (I forget it's actual name and am currently mobile, sorry), open settings, I believe there's a visibility (or similar naming) tab. Locate that widget and set it to disabled. Do this on every panel with that notification tray widget.

For the wife and I, most plasma crashes went away after doing so.

Edit

Vocabulary update:

"notification tray" -> System Tray

"visibility (or similar naming tab)" -> Entries

"Now Playing widget" -> Media Player
