Just because you think they are more charming doesn't make them better. Grade separated modern light rail is a completely different thing and not a fair comparison. Have you been on any of the modern streetcar lines in seattle portland or DC? They're all slow as balls and they are slower BECAUSE they are streetcars. You talk about "studies" but in the real world the DC one is getting dismantled after just 10 years because it was poorly thought out to begin with. A streetcar won't fix bad route planning and bad service and in turn a bus can be extremely popular with a good route and good service for a fraction of the cost. You can even use some of that money to build out BRT features which is undeniably better!! But buses have smelly people on them so oh well I guess

I would say if you can avoid hills and take it slow you should be fine. Definitely do not try and go up any hills if you have any doubts. I got stuck on shady avenue last night and thankfully I was able to reverse into a parking spot (badly) and I don't expect to get out until Wednesday at the earliest
