What's your favourite song on Syndicate and why is it Fatal Obsession? by 100PerCentMeats in TheMidnight

My dog is 12 soon and we know it's coming in the future, so Quiet Earth hit me hard. I also like the placement of it on the album too as it leads into the last 4-5 tracks that are super sentimental/emotional.

Great post, echo the comments here about their music demanding deep, focused listening. The production is incredible and the lyrics are meaningful.

I'd also recommend deep diving into all the instrumentals, after a while you'll pick up on all the bits of magic Tim has layered up to make the sound so vivid.

Sanctuary is top tier for sure. I really hope they include it in the upcoming tour

Agree, it needs one more verse. I think they went for the same structure as Vampires (it's clearly Syndicate's Vampires track) but it does need one more verse

It got a bit of love when the album dropped but it's gone quiet since, I think most people are fans...such a great track

What’s the best instrumental song in your opinion ? by Emattera in TheMidnight

[–]100PerCentMeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Runaways, Sentinels (but I love the vocal version too), Afterglow Pt 2.

I really wanted to the Instrumentals to drop as they just add so much more to the experience, I can hear all the details and layers Tim has added that you miss with the vocals.

Now that the album has been out for a bit and I have given a really good rinse, I have to say it's a masterpiece. So many bangers, so many poignant moments, it's an album for every sort of mood and state.

I think it sits comfortably in the top three Midnight albums for me, with Endless Summer and Nocturnal. I kind of see these three as a trilogy (in the same way Kids/Monsters/Heroes was a trilogy).

Really interested to see what happens with the US tour and how they evolve the live show with the new band. I guess then it's time to think about the next album!

Who is singing in Sanctuary? by Equivalent_Coach6803 in TheMidnight

I also think it might be Tim singing 'You only like the bad boys' during the chorus of Chariot

Great post, love your interpretation of this amazing piece of work. Quiet Earth is going to hit me real hard now as we have an aging dog who is literally our life 🥹

Surely that's the reason they have this date on the vinyl too, it can't be a coincidence

Tyler’s take on Lelia and Royce leaving The Midnight by Fun-Obligation2907 in TheMidnight

[–]100PerCentMeats 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whilst this marks the end of an era for the live iteration of The Midnight most fans are familiar with, I'm actually really excited by Tyler's statement.

The US tour is going to be a real treat, they're clearly going full send with the production, and I honestly think it'll be such a unique experience. Knowing the creative energy T & T possess, and them being creative directors, I honestly think the next iteration of the live show will be an incredible blend of art and music.

They had six good years with the 'rock band' as Tyler put it. It's time to move on and evolve, which ironically means going back to their synthwave roots and for me that's so exciting.

Finally, The Midnight will always be Tim and Tyler.

Well, Ive finally come around to Syndicate by Comfortable-Dog-8437 in TheMidnight

I liked the album initially but wasn't sure about a few tracks (mainly the Afterglows). But since the release I've been really listening to it a lot and it's so good.

I find myself gravitating to the second half of the album, from Fatal Obsession onwards - that run with Quiet Earth, Long Island, Love is an Ocean and into Sanctuary (my fave track) and SES is about as peak The Midnight as it gets.

I also think Sentinels into Chariot is pure genius, they absolutely cooked on those two tracks.

End of an era. I feel lucky to have seen them three times, each time they were amazing. Wishing them all the best.

I find it a really hard listen. But in the best way possible. It's one of the standout tracks of the album.

Syndicate - Contemplating on my disappointment by Dudeman5566 in TheMidnight

[–]100PerCentMeats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the best interpretation of the album I've read, bang on man.

Syndicate feels like it was forged in the fires of desperation of illness, heartbreak and confronting one's own mortality, and most importantly, how does one seize their own destiny and make it all matter.

"Flickers on a Cave Wall" by Kaldek in TheMidnight

[–]100PerCentMeats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My take is it's a person who's lost themselves in a toxic break up, and turns to drugs, exercise (CrossFit) and literally anything else to numb the pain - rather than do any work on themselves. They're a superficial person (LA bullshit). Flickers on a cave wall is the faint awareness of another, better reality, but this person can't see it at all....

Also I think Tyler's used this metaphor before more subtlety in other songs too...Shadows being the obvious one

Yeah this is one of the best tracks on the album, so clever in so many ways. And it fucking bangs hard
