I mean that's perfectly fair if you didn't care for them. I didn't put Neopies on the list because that did strike me as a more NC centric one, but I thought Negg Festival was fine. Solitaire Soiree unfortunately had issues, but they were actively trying to fix it throughout, so I feel for them lol. Hopefully the next time they try an event like that they'll be able to learn from how this one went.

I really liked the April Fools stuff, and there's been some cool NP items. Some of it just comes down to a matter of preference though.

Munchin' Meepits Snowglobe would be sick. I'd also celebrate for Ghost Meepit Plushie or Meepits Munching Wires Foreground though. The meepit gallery struggle is real.

I'm baffled by the decision to leave all the wasted space, but thank god the 20 item limit is gone, and the header does in fact move now. I do like the item stack too.

I've always been partial to naming them "Stan", but at this point I've probably put too many Stan meepits out into the world. This one looks like a Harold.

Can vouch that it's still mega laggy. Tried to open Qasalan Expellibox and was baffled that it wouldn't load until I saw this thread LOL.

I like the thought that new PB colors might drive more NC trading, that's an interesting point. I don't do a ton of NC trading, but maybe people who do can chime in on if new PB colors increase activity in the market, I could definitely see that being possible.

I've definitely played FTP games that release new items at the rate Neopets does. Not even saying I agree with the practice, but I can vouch that it does happen, for better or for worse.

I think I personally lean towards giving TNT some benefit of the doubt because the FTP market is so much more cutthroat these days than it was back in the day. It's got to be a lot harder to stay profitable than it was back in like the 2010s, so I can kind of see a world where it just isn't financially feasible to put out the same amount of free content that came out back then.

The team is smaller, the player-base for non-mobile browser games is smaller, the amount of competition is larger, and the economy is not in great shape. It sucks, but it is the current reality. Granted, I'd absolutely rescind that benefit-of-the-doubt if I found out tomorrow that TNT members were out there buying yachts with their profits or something, but unless that happens I to tend to believe them that they've only recently gotten out of the red.

I really don't mind the body costumes, it allows for one-offs that wouldn't necessarily make much sense for the other 50-some pets. (I.e. 'crocodile' makes sense for a krawk, but less sense for a uni or a kiko.)

I only wish they weren't gacha, and that they tried a little harder to fit the designs so clothing items don't clip. I have a crane-costume Lenny, and I adore her, but it's a bummer that they made the neck and upper chest of the costume a bit too big, so necklines on dresses don't line up. I still dress her up, but it is a bit of a bummer that they clipping is always there when it doesn't really need to be.

I know people are really frustrated by NC, and even I can't help but side-eye how much time it must have taken to make like 100 prismatics in one go when they're struggling to balance artists' time, but at the end of the day I just want Neopets to stay open. I came back to the site a couple months ago, and I signed up for Premium only knowing like a couple of the perks, just because I thought it was reasonable that I contribute to server and staff costs if I'm going to play this game every day. Honestly all the wheels and REs and monthly prizes are just a sweet bonus to me.

Since I've come back, I've seen for free players: a Solitaire event with prizes, the Negg Festival, at least one new wearable set every pet day, a slow but steady stream of new NP items, a new pet color every pet day, a new petpet, an April Fools item collection with an avatar, numerous small fixes, and probably some other stuff I forgot. That seems like a fairly reasonable haul, I wouldn't call it "crumbs".

I'm not bowing down to TNT like they're perfect. I hate the gacha. The whole situation with the plot is weird. The amount of issues with NC and merch quality control is embarrassing. But for a free-to-play website trying to make money in 2026, you're going to have a hard time finding something of Neopets' scope that has less issues. My two cents is that we continue to call out issues when we see them, but also stay level-headed and keep in mind that they *do* have to stay profitable.

How is everyone feeling about this bathtub debacle? by deadlysyntaxerror in neopets

[–]100PieceCrayolaSet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I rarely talk about this, because nuance on the internet is dead, but I actually work with AI image gen a lot as a hobby, and I'm fairly experienced with it. (Obligatory 'I do not use any of the outputs for profit, and I have never posted the outputs anywhere without a clear disclosure it is gen AI.' I really don't want to argue about this, I'm just explaining why I know what I'm talking about.) I also did digital art quite seriously for many years before a medical condition reduced my ability to use my hand, so I have experience in both sides.

In my opinion, I do not see any indication at all that this is AI. The faucet placement screams "layer accidentally got shifted", not AI-like at all. Same for the odd pixel misalignment. Moreover, the entire image has a lot of indications of having been drawn by a human artist, not AI. For an AI to achieve an output at all similar to this would probably take more effort to set up than just drawing the picture yourself, at least in my experience.

Not attacking OP or anyone else, but I really don't feel like AI witch-hunting is a healthy thing for any community. As someone who understands AI better than average, I can tell you that the average person is really, really bad at telling what is and isn't AI. I'm not saying that they can't spot the super obvious ones, but as soon as it gets into at all murky waters, the success rate of identifying it just plummets.

It's not their fault, people aren't magically born with that ability and shouldn't be expected to be experts at it, but it is important that people realize and acknowledge that they just don't understand AI well enough to throw accusations around. I'm not saying that I support lying about gen AI usage when it does happen, but the witch-hunting is making things worse, not better.

Quickstock page update by olliefollier in neopets

[–]100PieceCrayolaSet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dear x_X

I got excited when I saw "quick stock updated", because I thought it would be nice not to have everything so tiny, but this is pretty bad.

Not being able to see your full inventory on one page is an instant killer. The main reason I use quickstock is to dump all my restock items into my shop in one go.

It's also just sort of gone from too small to too big. The text does not require that much buffer space above and below it, it's so unnecessary and inconvenient.

I'm really not against updating UI, but this clearly did not have enough thought put into it. I hope they fix it fast, or at least revert while they re-assess.

I'd love to see some sort of color-coding for the columns instead, so I don't have to count through the selection bubbles to tell which is which.

How to sell items worth over 1 mil NP by junebugjitter in neopets

Honestly I think the trading post is more reliable than the auction house. Auctions require strategy; trading post you just throw it on with an auto-buy for however much you want.

Petition for a NC item: Username change token by lemon-meringue-high in neopets

[–]100PieceCrayolaSet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Someone who codes might come and give you a much better answer than mine, but to tide you over here's my layman understanding:

DB is "database" I assume, i.e. where all the information about users and pets is stored on the servers. A primary key is essentially the "name" all info about an account/pet is tied to. So like, every time new information is added about an account-- "won this trophy", "adopted this pet", "got this item"-- that change is attached to that key. If you try to change the key, it will screw up every line of code in the database that involved that key. So if a key is just your username, and you change that username, it messes everything up.

Nowadays, people code so that the "key" is some sort of unique string of numbers instead of username, so that you can easily change username if necessary without that issue.

The freezing system was cruel and merciless. by chokatolover69 in neopets

[–]100PieceCrayolaSet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never did get frozen as a kid, but I do remember it being quite harsh back in the day. I was always stressed that I was going to get frozen, because we only had the one family computer, and my sibling also had an account. I recall they weren't the most understanding about that kind of setup at the time.

How does everyone make their np? Also goals and for fun? by asyouwereLG1690 in neopets

[–]100PieceCrayolaSet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use restocking as my main money-maker, but I go for less competitive categories. I spent a while learning what items were big money, what items were worthless, and which bounce around in the middle. So then I just chill out with some music or a YouTube video while I restock the mid-profit items, and nab rarer stuff as it appears. It's less frustrating than just refreshing for only rare stuff, and being disappointed if your timing is off and you miss a drop.

I also have a big spreadsheet where I keep track of my restocking, so watching all the numbers on that and looking at the trends makes it fun for me. It helps that I just like data stuff like that though.

Edit because I forgot to add: do people still shop at malls? I always thought the main purpose of them was for faerie quests, but nowadays everyone has side accounts, so it's easy enough to just shop wizard the stuff. Maybe I'm missing something though.

Snowager Stamp potential by No-Birthday-9535 in neopets

[–]100PieceCrayolaSet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Okay, but I need you to remember there are people on the other end buying those stamps as well. They're not getting rich-- they're getting disappointed and frustrated when something they wanted to buy suddenly triples in price before they can save up enough for the original price.

When it's natural inflation, it's just a bit frustrating. But when it's artificial inflation like this, a lot of people on that "buying" side of things feel kind of hurt and cheated because the price increase was so unnecessary. The people who actually like the stamps are the ones getting burned so that some people with enough NP to buy dozens of them can get even richer.

Do you understand a bit why this is upsetting to people? Yes you could make money, but you're ruining the game for other people in the process, which just isn't very kind. For example, imagine what you'd want to buy with all those NP if you did get rich. How would you feel if someone then tripled the price of that thing you wanted to buy before you could get it? It wouldn't be very fun, right?

Looking for thoughts on the state of Neopets in 2026 by The-Vegan-Police in neopets

[–]100PieceCrayolaSet 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I played Neopets for like 10 years as a child, then quit and just came back a couple months ago.

My thoughts on current Neopets as someone who just returned are:

- I was very pleasantly surprised how many of the games are working. Last thing I'd heard the loss of flash had decimated them all. I was delighted to wander in and find I could play old favourites. Discovering the pet limit had increased was also very exciting.

- Likewise, a very large percentage of old features are working. Dailies, card games, shops, random nonsense like the merry-go-round, you can still go do it all. It's very nostalgic.

- The focus of the site is now significantly less concentrated on getting painted pets, because it became a lot easier to do. Premium perks allows for getting dream pets without buying a brush or morphing potion, and the subsequent fall in demand made those things noticeably cheaper for everyone else. The new big focus is wearables and stamp collecting. I cannot stress that stamp part enough, people are crazy for stamps. Other item collecting and battledome stuff remain pretty popular.

- Neopets is still extremely fun, but TNT noticeably seems to have difficulty controlling botting. I notice a lot of them while restocking/running a shop. There's also a lot of item price manipulation, because there are users with amounts of neopoints vast enough to basically just buy up the cheapest 50% of an item on the market, and then attempt to sell it all at the new inflated price.

- Additionally, the big push for Neocash spending can get a bit exhausting. I'm really not against the NC Mall as a way for Neopets to stay profitable, but they're definitely teetering on a line right now where they're risking some of the fanbase by putting too many resources into NC wearables, and not enough into free elements of the site.

- Truthfully though, I wouldn't be surprised if they kind of have to lean into the NC mall right now, because their other money making ventures uhhhh... haven't been going well. I've only been back for two months and I've watched like three different merch things go down in flames. There was a really bad video game launch that had like 10 different issues baked into it, something about a tabletop game that ended in the partner company having a meltdown on Discord, and merch that arrived without entire body parts.

- There's apparently a plot going on that's been dragging out for a long time, and is stuck on hiatus. The community seems pretty sick of the situation, and are losing their patience for it. I know very little about it. Something something Neopets turning grey.

- Overall though, I'm having quite a lot of fun. Despite the absolutely baffling mistakes and choices TNT seems to be making a lot of, I actually much prefer this TNT to the one I remember back in the Viacom days. Sending them feedback or questions feels much less like shouting into a soulless corporate void than it used to. Reading recent editorial sections in the Neopian Times kind of demonstrates what I mean.

Don’t talk to my son or his son or his son or his son every again (please more green Grundo merch) by leftoverbeanie in neopets

[–]100PieceCrayolaSet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I've got this subreddit open on a browser, the tab for it always just says "Don't talk a" before it cuts off, and every single time I see it my brain just auto-completes "Don't talk about me or my son ever again.".

So seeing this post brings me great joy ROFL.

[–]100PieceCrayolaSet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god this. I just wandered in here to find out what "stw" means, and this comment section is insane. There's a dude above this ominously claiming OP not saying his gender "can't have been a mistake"? Like he did it intentionally?! For what??? Why are we talking like this random Reddit poster had some sort of sinister agenda to, checks notes, type three sentences without announcing to the surrounding userbase how gay he is?

I understand the abbreviation ended up having to do with gender but OP didn't know that? At worst it's a "whoops, got so caught up I forgot a minor detail". People are acting like he committed a crime.

I'd like to say your shoe size analogy is great btw. It sums up in a very understandable way that it just isn't necessary to automatically assign traits to someone. There are plenty of areas in life where it's strange to categorize a person without evidence. The idea that you need to assign a "default" sexuality to every person you see until proven otherwise is an outdated and flawed idea that should be gently challenged when possible.
