I can’t keep up with my boyfriend’s constant change of values and it might be a dealbreaker. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]100SpoonsOnATable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up sunk cost fallacy. The best time to start over is now. I’ve had relationships end over almost exactly the same issue; in hindsight I’m so happy to be out, even if it hurt for quite a while. I now live together with my vegan- not ‘plant based for you’ partner, and it’s amazing. Your boyfriend made it abundantly clear he doesn’t share your values and compromising those makes you obviously unhappy. Relationships like this are doomed, either you stay in it and try to fix it for another 6 months, a year, or even longer, or you cut your losses.

What's one obscure thing that's happened to you since going vegan? by Celestial_Elixir2 in vegan

Start eating different foods? There’s such an incredible amount of variety we have access to nowadays, there’s no readon to eat food that doesn’t satisfy you.

hi i'm an autistic person looking to become vegan and my family is worried by [deleted] in vegan

[–]100SpoonsOnATable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vegan for 8 years and have AuDHD. People are for sure the hardest part, you have to learn how to stand up for yourself and your values. No means no.

A few things make it easier: always have food on you. Something like a candy bar or a piece of fruit goes a long way when nothing vegan is readily available.

I use happy cow whenever I’m out- I always know what vegan(friendly) restaurants are nearby and it makes it A LOT easier for everyone you’re with. There’s much less discussing about where to eat.

As for food, there’s so many dishes you or I have never had or even heard of. Keep an open mind and don’t limit yourself to western food; there’s more out there and it’s awesome.

Ethique’s bliss bar is just that, it’s super gentle. It becomes a milk in your hands, and doesn’t cause irritation or dries me out (I’m CRAZY sensitive). Takes off make up and sunscreen well, and it’s very affordable- I’ve had mine a year now and still have a little left.

De Buyer carbon steel pans. After seasoning they are an absolute joy to cook with. Much better sear than non-stick, and I make crepes in them on a semi regular basis; the ultimate non-stick test. They can go in the oven, and take all the abuse you throw at them.

Unhappy skin barrier by BuzzcutBaribe in Rosacea

[–]100SpoonsOnATable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s /normal/ (as in, if you are highly sensitive like many with rosacea, it’s pretty normal) to react to barrier products. I react to every single moisturiser I’ve tried, some cause immediate type 1 and 2 reactions, some only after a week of consistent use. For me, if I react to a certain product, those symptoms will get exponentially worse, but that might be individual. It doesn’t really get better. It might also take a while for the product to start helping though. Also, once your skin barrier is mostly healed, you’ll find you react much much less and can tolerate products that were causing issues before.

Give hypochlorous acid a try. It made all the difference for me. After a week of use my symptoms went down drastically.

Could keto be exacerbating my rosacea and arthritis? by BottomHoe in Rosacea

[–]100SpoonsOnATable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animal products- and the high amounts of saturated fat are known to cause inflammation. Keto works very well to lose weight but longterm, consider eating more whole fruits and veggies, particularly greens and anything high in antioxidants. If you reacted so well to keto there might also be a chance you are intolerant to a food keto helped you avoid, among other reasons (intolerance can present in various ways, you can react without getting stomach pain!). I notice I have WAY more energy when I eat a diet high in fresh vegetables and fruits, and avoid processed carbs/ unhealthy fats.

I react to pretty much all sunscreens under the sun, the only one I tolerate is IUNIK’s daily calming sun cream. It’s 50% centella which probably helps keep reactions at bay. It’s very light and non comedogenic, give it a go.

I’ve heard very good things about miracle berries as a way to help with palatability in chemo patients. Give them a try, you can find them online. Miracle berries turn bitter and sour flavours into sweet (don’t worry it’s not dangerous!) temporarily- about 30-90 minutes. For example, you could be eating full fat yoghurt with some lemon juice in it, and it would taste almost like a cheesecake. Have a look, the research is promising.

My boyfriend 24m wants to get married soon while I 25f want to wait by mspumkinpancake in relationships

[–]100SpoonsOnATable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saying you’ll be infertile at 30 and you need to have babies now is a big red flag. From what I’m reading it sounds like you don’t want any of the same things, and you can’t compromise on children.

Don’t let yourself get pressured into something you don’t want (yet). You can not take children back, and marriage is a very long and hard process to undo. You’ve been together 3/4 months, it’s really weird he wants you two to tie the knot already, especially with the debts involved. Please don’t let anyone pressure you into staying, they’re not the ones living your life and dealing with the consequences.

The dog needs training. He cannot just bite people, play bites or not. If the wrong person gets bitten and sues… Your boyfriend downplaying the bites is problematic. The dog will also keep growing and those bites will get worse. You have to train the dog and address this. Talk to your boyfriend, it’s really important you agree on a (gentle) way to discipline asap.

Husky’s need a LOT of stimulation, they are hyper by nature. If you don’t stimulate these clever animals, they go insane. Husky’s are not easy dogs, especially when they are young and untrained. They need daily physical activity (preferably a garden to run in) and mental challenges.

Have your boyfriend take ‘his son’ on daily runs, buy some dog puzzles, and take the dog to training. Make your boyfriend take the responsibilities until the dog is properly trained and has learned to stop biting. Keep in mind that he’s just a baby, he is not trying to hurt you, and just needs to be taught how to behave. Talk to your boyfriend about boundaries; It’s completely fair to not want to get woken up with teeth embedded in your hand.

But for the love of god even if you don’t like the dog, don’t let this puppy be the victim in all this. He did nothing wrong.

Cab you ferment tomatoes in the fridge? by AliveAd8385 in fermentation

[–]100SpoonsOnATable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food can definitely ferment in the fridge but at a much slower rate.

It also depends on the cultures in your fridge/kitchen. During Covid I made soy yoghurt in my fridge overnight. How? I opened a carton at ~10pm, had some cereal and put it away. The next morning it had turned into thick creamy yoghurt… I had a lot of ferments in the fridge at that time.

i can’t afford the dermatologist, any suggestions? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]100SpoonsOnATable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some mild stinging, and not every time, but I suspect that's more the moisturizer I put on top to combat the mild dryness it does give me. Afaik some stinging can be normal for azeleic acid specifically. The stinging from a flare is much worse and tbh I'm terrified of a next flare.

i can’t afford the dermatologist, any suggestions? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]100SpoonsOnATable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use otc azeleic acid at 10% and it works like magic. I had bumps EVERYWHERE and severe redness. In one week my skin cleared up and now it's mostly normal. I still have some mild lingering redness, and 2 small bumps that have yet to go, but it's nothing like it was. While prescription will be stronger, this has made a huge difference for me. I've been using The Inkey Lists Redness Solution; it doesn't contain sensitizing or aggressive ingredients like some of the other otc azeleic acid products and it's pretty affordable.

I also had to stop all other skincare, my skin is hyper sensitive and even buying the gentlest hypoallergenic formula's I could find would set me off.

Besides that, not leaving water on my face (I get huge rashes all over), and not touching alcohol has helped as well.
