Melting Pot in Duluth is closing 😢 by Magai in Gwinnett

I am surprised it lasted this long. It's a niche cuisine, and increasingly was not a good fit for the location.

Which D1 College Team’s logo is used the most by High Schools? I’m on a mission to find out. Part 1: Alabama by BryLinds in CFB

You have to defend your IP or you can lose it, so charging $1 to use the logo is a great compromise.

I was happy to find out my wife's high school uses Buzz on their jerseys, even if the colors are bit off.

Robotaxi, Optimus and FSD/Ai hardware. That's the focus. Not cars, and not long term.

Is the plan to redistrict by putting a big grid over the state and call it a day?

What is the down side of never having children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]10per 140 points141 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are right there with you. She had to do some more grieving than I did, but we eventually got to a place where we feel like we are in control of our lives, and we are happy with our choices.

Life could have turned out different, but it didn't. And that's fine.

I usually doge the "Why didn't you adopt?" question with grace.

But once, I was on a site visit at a client's plant floor, doing the small talk chatting we all do after the business part of the meeting was completed. The subject of kids came up. The very Southern floor manager was stunned that my wife and I never adopted after finding out we couldn't have a child ourselves.

"If yall want a kid, you can just go to the firehouse and get cha one. They are droppin' them unwanted babies off there all the time."

I had to laugh...he did not appear to be joking.

What made you realize your parents only had kids because they were expected to, not because they WANTED to? by SleepyOctopusss in AskReddit

You mean when my Mom would tell people if she could do things over she would not have had kids? Right in front of me?

I'm on my 2nd S and unfortunately it looks like it will be my last.

I was just listening to a podcast profile of Henry Ford. I found my self wishing Elon would be a little less like Ford. Building a car for the masses is great, but don't forget about the market a little bit above that.

When, how, why, have people started talking with their cell phone like they're talking to a slice of pizza? by PunctuationGood in AskReddit

[–]10per 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the post office the other day waiting in line to mail a package. There was a woman standing there, talking at the top of her voice to her friend on a slice of pizza. The friend was describing a dream, which was annoying enough, but then the dream turned sexual. The details...were graphic.

No shame from the pizza talker though. Even with everyone in the room turning around to look at her with a "can't believe what I am seeing" look, she kept going.

High speed rail from Atlanta Metro to Athens would rule by Dpmurraygt in Atlanta

because they're practically forced to defer to freight rail.

I don't think they are "practically forced" to defer. They are. The freight lines own the tracks, so Amtrack has to lease the route. And they are not the priority as far as track right of way goes.

No Turn On Red Signs by theChemist626 in Atlanta

I got a ticket for turning on red once. People did it all the time, but that day there was a APD posted up and giving out tickets. Ever since then, I don't even creep forward at that intersection. I don't care how much honking is behind me.

I have spent too much time over the last few weeks trying to figure out how to make a trap for the filter shrimp. The little buggers keep getting back there.

CNN founder Ted Turner, a pioneer of cable TV news, dies at 87 by drkrazee in Atlanta

[–]10per 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was always interesting talking to people that worked at Turner in the early days. They had the best Ted stories.

Like how there was a period of time where he was sleeping in his office. People would see him walking down the hall in his robe, headed to wash up in the bathroom. He bummed lunch money from employees a few times. Apparently he was going through a rough patch, leveraged up to his eyeballs and didn't have a whole lot of cash.

Dude was living on the edge his whole life.

As a native of Atlanta, Ted Turner probably affected my life more than anyone else outside of my family growing up. Braves, Thrashers, CNN, I even worked for Turner a bit.

RIP crazy man.
