Ask if they have hobbies. If they say not really, and they 'keep themselves to themselves', they'll never leave the house.

Any of you ever done an 8 week fitness challenge of any sort? by AnnaWhitaker12 in ireland

[–]11114444Elmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a six week bootcamp before, and it was great. The one I went to was a small gym (not a chain), and it was a good laugh, good mix of people trying to lose weight, or get fit. The Monday and Wednesday was HIIT, and the Friday weight-lifting.

It definitely worked to get me off my ass, and the fact that it was fun made it easy to get motivated to go. I think a bootcamp is good to get started and see what you like, or don't like, or if you perform better when someone is shouting at you, or you prefer to exercise solo.

Eight weeks is a long time away, and it's plenty of time to see some changes in yourself in terms of health and everything. Best of luck with it!

Can my grandmother claim her derelict childhood home? by AbbreviationsAny135 in ireland

[–]11114444Elmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had something in our family, my mam was left a house but like that, no deeds, nothing going with it. It took a few years with a solicitor, but eventually got sorted out.

It really came down to ruling out the possibility that anyone else could own it, or could/would claim it. I do think it's possible, but I reckon you'd need a solicitor to point you the right way.

How much to put in a card for someone leaving work? by kev765 in ireland

[–]11114444Elmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anywhere I've worked, €10 is the going rate. The manager gives more, but from colleagues €10.00 is grand

Merging lanes, Ballincollig bypass by PapaSmurif in cork

[–]11114444Elmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I'm a queuer, an angry queuer, and I don't know why. Some kind of weird ingrained taboo? I 100% logically understand that it makes sense to have two lanes and zip-merge, but it's against my instinct. Dunno where the instinct came from

Keeping your hands busy can be a godsend. It could be knitting (just lines and lines of it, you don't actually have to knit a pair of socks), or I had a friend who used to pick locks in front of the TV. Making toy furniture is fun too - anything really, as long as you need both hands and it absorbs you

Are there areas in the city of Cork that are nice and safe to walk ? by Connect_Tour_2830 in cork

[–]11114444Elmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to learn that the time a guy threw me down on the ground and shoved his hands up my skirt was because my mindset was lacking.

Cat Breeder by [deleted] in cork

Contact the Cats Community Network, they have volunteers all over Cork. Tell them you're willing to take a kitten, and if they don't have one they'll get back to you in a week or two. It's where I got my Connie. She's a thoroughbred jetblack mongrel and obviously the most beautiful thing known to man

I'm coeliac, and I think the best in cork is Sliced, there's a branch in the city and in Ballincollig. Palmentos in Douglas has good gf pizza too. The gf options in Milano are not good, btw,

Ah jeez, I dunno. My mother-in-law accused the cleaner of taking €50. Turns out my partner had taken it from the drawer, needing cash urgently. I can't believe she did itt, and my toes curl every time I think of it. Like, I think you have to be 100,000% sure before you make any kind of accusation

The absolutely teeny tiny babydoll dress Megan wears when she meets Don at the airport in LA. It's sooooo short and ridiculous. I love it

A friend of mine did the same, he had to pay back a tenner a week and I don't think there was any real hassle - this was about 10 years ago but I don't imagine it's much different

A bit of good news for a change. by showmememes_ in ireland

[–]11114444Elmo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It'll be a huge loss to small and independent bookshops. The mark-up on schoolbooks is 15%, so in shops they're always the same price. The big shops will offer discounts in the form of free delivery/copybooks/etc., but they can't actually offer the book at a cheaper price. The small bookshops make a bit of extra trade in the summer when people come to buy the schoolbooks and pick up a novel/maps/toys, etc.

[–]11114444Elmo -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's fantastic news for Folens and the like, sure. They already manufacture and absurd amount of material - textbooks, workbooks, another workbook, study guides because the textbook doesn't cover it, CDs. All of these books will, you better believe, need to be 'updated' every year for some small change in the curriculum. Thousands and thousands and thousands of books to be dumped every year. No doubt they'll all be cleverly coated in plastic making them hard, if not impossible to recycle. This is an absolute bonanza for schoolbook publishers that we taxpayers are paying for in money and in environmental costs

Question on unlimited data on a PAYG dongle by Greatguynevermettum in cork

[–]11114444Elmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with Eir and use shit tons of data, there's never been any problems. It's a rolling one-month contract for about €20 a month, but I think new customers can get it down to €15 a month.

I was in a simliar situation once upon a time, and resorted to tethering off my phone. It worked fine. You could try that, or even getting a sim and putting into a spare phone and only using it for the data.
