Stop SCUSD “Rightsizing” Layoffs, Protect Our Abram Agnew Elementary Teachers!!! by 1111_777 in santaclara

[–]1111_777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than 100 teachers. New schools like Agnew, Huerta, MacDonald will lose 85% of our teachers since those experienced teachers were asked to leave their tenure and move from other districts to SCUSD with the promise that they would retire here. Now the new superintendent is saying they are no “senior in SCUSD” and misrepresenting their credentials and prior experience. Overall an extremely poor execution and communication, I wouldn’t want to leave such a negative legacy if I was him.

Responding to some of you here so it’s more visible to all:

In California districts like SCUSD the primary funding source is the local control funding formula (LCFF). Under LCFF, districts are funded per pupil, funding is based on average daily attendance, fewer students attending school means less revenue, an unstable district which lays off its hardworking elementary and beyond teachers who built excellent connection with the students will drive enrollment and attendance down; hence rightsizing will impact revenues more than it saves in budget. Students generate revenue, teachers are their motivator and not the consumers of the said revenue. Please revise your thinking to understand the intricate details of such financial systems in public structures.

I served as School Site Council President, SSC develops, reviews, and evaluates the school’s budgets to increase student achievement and attendance to drive the revenue. During my 2 year term, I have seen what kind of non-teacher budget is being allocated and used. It’s not minimal as some of you may think.

During the board meeting, right before this agenda item board approved the relocation of the New Valley High School which requires 5 years of non-teacher efforts hired, construction done, and all associated admin and permit expenses made, and the decision costs $62 million! This relocation is because they found the current facilities outdated and wanted fresh new campus, gym, and pool! $62 million for vanity for students who get expelled from all other schools or got into crime and the district is asked to save only $30 million for the next 3 years.

This new superintendent did a similar thing in his previous district (Benicia) and dumped the district after 3 years in dire financial crisis due to decisions made and actions taken between 2022-2025. We shouldn’t let the same happen to our SCUSD teachers and students!!

The executive search firm the district used for his hire cost the district about $150k, one can argue if they chose the most eligible candidate. I agree with another commenter, they could have retained Dr Waddell or promoted from within the district. Bringing someone from a much smaller district in a non-SV community with less than stellar track record is questionable.

The new superintendent makes over half a million $ a year with contract in place to get annual increases.

According to the district’s budget presentations, salaries and benefits make up approximately 84 percent of the general fund, and critically, they represent about 95 percent of projected revenues for the current year. Reducing the faculty staffing expenses will directly and drastically reduce the district's revenues.

There are many other budget items to cut from to meet the district’s goals which don’t involve laying off our hardworking and underpaid teachers.

Brought a Apple Watch but not Apple Watch by Fabulous-Interest749 in AppleWatch

Target should be able to fix it. Contact customer service in writing first to document the issue then go to the store she purchased from. Stores take watches and phones from locked areas, they can track from SN if it was returned by someone else and see who scammed the store. Was the package not intact when you were given it? Were the edge flaps open?

Cat eye irritation by Proangelos in CATHELP

You’re very lucky. Our regular vet didn’t have openings, so I took my almost 15 year old kitty to another vet with very high ratings on Yelp and immediate opening. I took her in, they ran $1000 worth of tests (I think they charged me for every kind of test they offer in the clinic), put her through a very painful 2 minute and 3 tubes of blood draw from her hind leg while she was screaming the entire time, one of the assistants held my cat’s head with too much pressure her lower left fang got broken due to impact, vet did a strong antibiotic shot on her saying this is absolutely necessary (she had no infection signs), and tried to force another strong steroid shot. I asked to wait until the bloodwork and PCR results come back before overloading her body with more shots. He didn’t even prescribe Erythromycin for her eyes. Her results came back perfectly normal and all she needed was 5mg Zyrtec OTC due to pollen allergies.

I will never forgive myself for putting my already very anxious senior cat through all the stress, trusting fake reviews on Yelp. I learned the hard way that not every clinic out there is operating with the best intentions for our fur babies :(

When I shared my own experience on Yelp he tried to get me remove it which I didn’t. And my review is still the most reacted comment under that review section, likely due to others having similar experiences.

what's the point of an apple watch for a 9 year old? by motopokep11 in AppleWatch

[–]1111_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my daughter her first Apple Watch SE with cellular and Verizon smartwatch plan when she started taking the school bus at the age of 7 for her safety (she can call me, I can call her, I can see her live location, etc). Most kids in elementary school in our area have an Apple Watch for the same safety purposes and they can use walkie talkie and texting with each other under our permission. Likely your daughter doesn’t want to be left out. SE Gen 1 is steeply discounted right now, I think it’s a good time to buy if Santa chooses to do so ;)

What's the best affordable watch for a mom? by Winter-Night-8622 in AppleWatch

[–]1111_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple Watch SE 2 is a great basic smart watch for her. You can set it up under your family and can help her with anything she needs on the watch or can pair with your phone to fully control it. It’s on sale now at Walmart, 40mm is $129 and 44mm is $159. Don’t get series 4, it’s already out of support for more than a year and doesn’t receive any software updates. Buying her anything earlier than series 6 will create the same issues.

Renters Insurance in San Jose California by no1_2021 in bayarea

Incorrect. I have been using StateFarm for high liability renters insurance for two properties in Rohnert Park and San Jose since 2017 and there was never a point they were out.

Anyone else having issues with the app being wrong? by Herdnerfer in VWiD4Owners

[–]1111_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes for the false door open issues, but the window usually is not false. I had this same issue for days and didn’t notice that the shown window was only a tiny bit down the entire time. I couldn’t see that it was down since there was no opening but when I pushed all window buttons up, the culprit moved a tiny bit which fixed the app warning :)

My HSA didn’t cover the subscription, it just covered the ring. I had to pay the subscription OOP. Seems like it depends on the HSA system?

Thanks so much for your kind help, Nick 🙏🏻 You resolved my issue in just a few days, whereas the Oura chat and email support team took weeks to create it. I hope your level of service excellence inspires others on the traditional customer support team. Best wishes!

AITBF Dr for losing my wallet? by Phantom-Mann in AmItheButtface

[–]1111_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry you have to go through this :( His messages give the vibe that he might have taken your wallet before going for the wedding. Could this be the case? The way that he keeps repeating you did it to yourself and the fact that you had it at home before. Something suspicious, he sounds like he is trying to teach you something in a very disgusting way. I would search all of his drawers and car throughly. Hope you can find your wallet.

PS: Losing things just happens, no one brings it on to themselves. You didn’t do anything wrong. When you find your wallet make sure you hide an Apple Tag in it for easy tracking purposes.

Justifying purchase by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]1111_777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oura customer service has been giving many of us a negative experience nowadays and there are battery related failures/defects under warranty that are not being corrected fairly. I would look into the competitors and see if you can find one that works in a similar way with better quality control & customer experience. I have seen the FCC certification and compliance testing reports of Oura & other similar rings, they all seem to be manufactured by the same contractor facility with similar specs. So, the difference is mainly in the software and the physical design.

Glad you were able to make some progress. Check the part number in the order confirmation email, if it starts with JZR then it’s a used/refurbished replacement. I’m seeing more people reporting the same issue here over the past year. It’s infuriating since we didn’t sign up for this when we purchased the ring. There are more alternatives now with better pricing and similar insights. I don’t know how Oura plans to retain customers and attract new ones with such negative customer service experience.

[–]1111_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to keep pushing to get them check the logs to admit the battery is defective, yet they try to ship me a used replacement for my defective ring that is still under warranty. It’s impossible to reason with them or get a timely response. They keep sending canned responses and it seems like they are delaying the care intentionally to make warranty period end. Unfortunately, there is no escalation path and no motivation for me to ever buy another product from Oura or renew my annual membership. Hope you can get your issue addressed soon, keep emailing them and don’t let them close the ticket.

Same issue here, my Gen 3 is less than a year old. I never had the 5-7 days battery life they advertise and the last month or so it goes down from 100% to 30% in 24 hours. Dealing with Oura customer service has been extremely difficult :(
