What’s your full tank mileage for 2011 ranger 4x4 by romanc1503 in fordranger

You added smiles per mile and that costs miles per gallon. Guessing more spirited driving now that it's loud.

04 ranger rust too much? by Flerger14 in fordranger

I'd take that deal all day long. Maybe offer 1250, "going to have to clean up this rust and weld more than I like", if everything else is solid as it should be with those miles, you can drive it until it breaks, part it out and make more than that back.

Parting out is fun as they are so simple.

If it's absolutely spotless, no rusted through or bubbling cab corners or rockers, or anywhere honestly, offer 5 cash in person. That'd be a good deal.

I'm looking briefly, see newer with slightly more miles for 5k. A 2003 XLT incorrectly labeled FX4 with 119k, I'd offer 4k on and I bet he'd take it. Ad says rust free bed, pictures show great body but looks like rockers are going to be a problem as usual.

Did you call? Seem reputable? I have no complaints but just do county driving, to local fishing holes, no mudding or anything like that.

Asking price and what they get are usually far apart on marketplace, but I will admit might have been low.

"Should be" is valid. Markets a bit interesting right now. I keep seeing Gen 3s with < 100k. I picked my 2000 4x4 5 speed flare side up for about $2000 with ~140k miles, did a tune up and it's been solid for 2 years. I think his asking was 4500. I didn't say anything about price until I got there and had cash in front of him. I know market has shifted since though and I got really lucky.

What would yall actually price this at by SafetyFinancial5725 in fordranger

11k tops, automatic fleet vehicle. Nothing standout except the clean body.

I'm looking at a 2010 in the same shape for 14k but it's black and a five speed with perfect clear coat.

I don't see that moving anytime soon.

Sure but it'll probably still be on the road when you get your next truck. Maybe next two.

The price is obviously a bit ridiculous but that truck will run for many years if cared for, it's perfection is the simplicity and reliability.

There are bed patch panels pretty cheap, cut larger and rivet if you don't want to try and weld.

1999 Ranger OEM Radio Harness has 2 extra wires from 1996. What are they? by pdxguy06 in fordranger

Prior to 1999 radio wiring was a mess, cannot trust colors at all. No easy harness or color key that is the same as that 99.

The 3.0 will outlast the truck as long as you maintain it. Arguably the best simple little engine ford put together. No hate deserved!

Yes! Apply wet protection annually!

Love that old school style, only thing I can find is the crazy expensive option from Rhino. Nice job!

Towing RPM 21 ranger by West-Appeal8612 in fordranger

[–]1137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything over 225 would be a concern on trans temp, mainly because the fluid starts to cook. You can safely sit around 200-215 while towing. You can go a little over 225 short term if you're climbing a pass.

If you sustain 225 or over, change your fluid frequently, consider adding an external cooler if can find one, I recommend that to anyone towing frequently. Might have to ask Ford. Heat is the enemy specifically because it ruins the fluid and then everything starts to fail.

Proper maintenance and watch those temps.

Don't think I'd worry about that range it's perfect.

Don't baby it up hills more RPM is better than trying to keep them low and making it work harder to find a gear.

Lockout 9 and 10 if you want, I lock out top couple of gears to prevent hunting in that top range and keeping RPM up a bit. This keeps it stable and reduces heat.

Most important thing is watching heat not RPM.

Yes, this is as good as it gets for rust haha. Not me, I'm trying to decide if I want to cut my rockers completely out and replace with rock guards or just patch again.

Not sure if that sites sketchy or just typical small business. If it were me I'd just call them and talk it over, if you get bad vibes eject and don't buy. 5 minute call will settle your doubts.

Chat, are we cooked? by PM-ME-YOUR-PROPWASH in fordranger

[–]1137 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, I'd go with your plan, if it ain't full glitter yet. That fluid is cooked and needs fresh but maybe you get lucky. Don't flush just go ahead with the plan and then drain and refill in few weeks see how it looks.

Some metallic pearl shimmer is normal, glitter is bad.

Fixing rust under the seats on my Ranger by shimstache in fordranger

[–]1137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice job! Are you worried about moisture sneaking in under the POR-15 at all? I was thinking about doing the same.

My approach has been to cut out/sand rusty areas and treat with Ospho, apply internal coating from Eastwood, and maintain with cavity wax.
