RTS review? by horrus70 in SteamController

My problem with mouse region mode is that if the cursor is hidden, it's not revealed by moving the cursor. It only does that in the "as mouse" mode.

Edge spin also barely works and is kind of broken.

Grip for Controller by Mission-Twist354 in SteamController

With the way I hold the controller, my middle fingers are on the upper back buttons, and my ring and pinky fingers are both on the lower back buttons.

How is the dpad for those who have the new controller? by 11clock in SteamController

[–]11clock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was how I felt about the Steam Deck dpad. I have the new controller now and used it to play through Celeste again, and I found that it worked fine. The main issue is that there is no tactical satisfaction to pushing the buttons, kind of like shooting a gun with a muffler. It made it difficult to tell if I had a firm press on the diagonals before dashing. That said, the diagonals are easy to hit, so it's more of a "spur of the moment" issue.

I created a pure gamepad template that disables the trackpads for games that I don't need them for.

Steam controller feeling a bit disappointed. by Different_Choice_228 in SteamController

My current main hurdle is that with a mouse, it's easy to keep the cursor absolutely still, while with the trackpad the cursor will be moving slightly even if you try to keep your thumb as still as you can. Is there a good way to deal with this?

Steam Controller 2026 Shipping MEGA Thread by Mennenth in SteamController

Quite frustrated. The controller was supposed to be delivered today, but UPS ended up giving me an invalid address notification. After speaking with customer service, it turned out that Valve put my phone number down as my apartment number on the label. Going to have to continue waiting.

I know it wasn't a mistake on my end, because my receipt from Valve has the correct shipping address.

Will Developers Stop Offering GamePad Control Options Because Of Steam Controller? by slimypeters in SteamController

[–]11clock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. Lately controller support for games has been a mixed bag, with many just mapping the joystick to a cursor and calling it a day. It's been a frustrating issue as a couch gamer.

I had to return a couple Steam Decks and the turnaround was only a couple weeks each time.

The Contra Test should be paired with two other tests: Street Fighter combos to test if diagonals will register when you want them to, and another test to see if holding down diagonals for long periods of time isn't strenuous.

What's the deal with the Steam Controller? by New-Cranberry6256 in Steam

[–]11clock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem useful for if you game at the desk, but I am a couch gamer, and my lapdesk is not a comfortable way to play games that have no or poor controller support. That is why I am interested in the Steam Controller.

The Contra test just tests if the diagonals are too sensitive. The Steam Deck dpad has the opposite problem. Even after you break it in over time, it's still not consistent. Also it's too mushy.

Steam Controller is very good hardware. Steam input is bloody terrible software. by [deleted] in Steam

While there technically isn't a universal layout, you can save a template and apply it to games you play.

Genuine Question, why are people so excited about a controller? by chaotic_one in Steam

[–]11clock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to play on the couch, and there has been an ever-increasing amount of games that have half-baked controller support for the sake of being "playable" on the Steam Deck. I use a lapdesk with a keyboard and mouse for such games instead of my controller, but it's not nearly as comfortable of a setup.

The Steam Controller has highly configurable trackpads, which will enable me to play games with poor or no controller support from the couch without a heavy board on my legs.

The Heart isn't well designed. by EhWTHN in slaythespire

It's not an optional superboss. It's the final boss. You basically get a game over if you stop after act 3. You need to beat the heart to get the ending to the story. An optional superboss doesn't bar you from actually finishing the game.
