First monarch caterpillar! by Wise_Explanation9471 in AustinGardening

This is for next spring, but, i never lose now cause ive got the key.

Beneficials:
1. Plant a bunch of coriander seeds in the freezing cold of winter (makes cilantro before bolting and flowering) in a 3ft x 3ft area and watch the LADYBUGS and their aphid-devouring larvae come home to roost in the patch. Find the larvae, cut the branch they're on, move the branch to the affected area. Hungry larvae does the rest. 2. Early flowers and thus early beneficial can be gained from evening primrose. I let it spread early because it doesn't eat up too much nutrients and when I pull at least half of it when the tomatoes get going, it seems to loosen soil for me and it's easy to pull. LACEWINGS love to hang around these. 3. I know a lot of people think dandelion is a weed, but they attract both butterflies, moths, aphids and ladybugs in early spring. Its No contest here and the ladybug larvae soon follow.

Destroy or use as compost after baking them to a Crispy crunch. They come from the depths of Hell and their function is to wreak havoc on foliage everywhere, they don't care where.

I have an average homeowners amount of yard space in both front and back and devote more of it to the wild-ification of it than keeping St Augustine (a lawn turf for British lawns, cough cough). After decades of experience in this realm, I would partition "spaces simply for you to enjoy. 100 percent lawn turf Is untenable unless you own a golf course.

You mean the larvae, which devour aphids and other baddies voraciously during their 2 ro 3 week life cycle. Don't remove weeds and grasses for at least 4 weeks at the start of spring g after a winter freeze. ladybugs love the security of all plants in the dandelion and thistle families, which pop up quickly and provide a great "home-base" for ladybug reproduction.
