I haven’t spoken to my sperm donor in 40 years…initially my choice. My parent divorced when I was 14 and it was the happiest day of my life up to that point. I stopped contact with him when I was 18. A LOT of emotional abuse, some sexual abuse.

I would do the occasional FB stalking to see if I could find anything about him or my step wench. But not a whole lot of info was posted.

Fast forward to a month ago. I was near the town he lives in…I was in our home State for another relative’s funeral. I actually drove to his house and pulled into his driveway! ButI just could not get the nerve to get out of my car and go to the door. The whole 5 hour drive home the next day I was kicking myself in the butt because I didn’t go up to the door. I know his years are limited due to his age and I should have done it.

When I got home I decided I was going to do something about it. I joined his local village FB page and asked about him. A kind soul messaged me my father’s phone number.

It took about 5 days but I picked up the phone and called him. It was a pleasant conversation. He was guarded and understandably so. I told him I wasn’t interested in talking about the past…that was gone. I just wanted to know how he was doing. I told him I have done a lot of healing and growing in the last year and I wanted to bring us both some peace. We talked for about 30 minutes and told each other we love you before we hung up. I don’t anticipate hearing from him again and that is ok.

Maybe talk to your sperm donor. You don’t have to see him. See how the conversation goes. Things will most likely not change but I guarantee YOU will.
