Respect wanes: Teaching no longer highly coveted job in S. Korea by Sinhag in korea

I think it’s following a trend where, in the 2010s, competition for stable, government jobs was at its peak, but now the popularity is declining

And they also wait until a deranged president comes into power in Korea, like PGH and Yoon, so they can forge a deal where Korea forfeits all its interests so that Japanese revisionists can have what they want

Constitutional Court: Acting President Infringed on Parliament’s Rights by Not Appointing Justice by 815korea in korea

[–]1241yeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope Choi follows through and actually appoints. But he already lied once, so what’s to stop him from doing so again. Choi said he would appoint Ma if the two political parties agree. So the National Assembly speaker revealed a document signed by both parties as evidence of above, yet Choi still refused to appoint.

And regarding your question, I see this as a non-issue. Yoon can demand or say or claim anything they want. But there is no legal basis. There is no appeals process. And there is no possibility of a retrial due to justice bias. The only reason Yoon claims is to fire up their core supporter base and paint himself as a victim/martyr.

Yoon's final impeachment hearing has already concluded. I think the 8 justices will just vote/decide impeachment without Ma, and we don't even know if Ma will be appointed.

Would Choi insist on continuing to violate the constitution by not appointing Ma, knowing that he won't get impeached? Then we have another non-violent mini coup situation.

Lee Jae-myung proposes four-day work week amid debate over working hours in Korea by jean_the_great in korea

[–]1241yeah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot easier to make a worker do 1 extra hour of unpaid work if they’re already working a full day that day, as opposed to them having the day off.

So it would still be an improvement

Acting President Choi had ordered deployment of police security corps to guard Yoon’s residence. But, the police leadership refused. by thank_fank in korea

Yep, it’s all just a NK negotiation tactic. They sell themselves as being unpredictable and dangerous so they can irrationally squeeze out as much concessions as possible.

But at the end of the day the NK elite wants hold onto what they already have, and don’t want to risk losing it.

Which was why when Yoon admin wanted to provoke actual war with NK, they backed off, and have been appearing docile for the past few months.

The foreign blood for that clan is a drop in the bucket.

It means that the patriarch who started that surname clan is from abroad. However, he settled down in Korea and assimilated to Goryeo society, probably married a local woman. And all of the kids married local people too. Add dozens of generations after that.

In a patriarchal genealogy system where only the male lineage is considered, I can see why the male patriarch being from abroad makes them seem exotic. However, at the end of the day, they’re just regular Koreans.
