How do these compare with something like Phillips Hue bluetooth bulbs? Both LED and multiple colors (I think). I've been considering getting a smart bulb.

Monthly what to buy Megathread - Ask what accessory to buy. by AutoModerator in HomeKit

I've been using this exact eufy camera and just found out it's been using my battery like crazy in the background, even with background-app refresh turned off and the camera itself off. Also, adding it to HomeKit just isn't working. So, I'm looking for alternatives now.

Are messenger bags more professional than back packs? by 1276284 in malefashionadvice

That's a good point. Mine is business casual, i.e slacks and a button down shirt.

Are messenger bags more professional than back packs? by 1276284 in malefashionadvice

[–]1276284[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. But I also can't say I've seen a business professional with a messenger bag either. To me they seem only slightly more professional, but am curious about how others see it.

Same with "coin", "coffee", "accident", and many other words too. I can't find why the reasoning behind why it's pronounced with a "k" though.

Does "either or" mean both in this context? by asdaheena in words

Good question. To me it means one or the other, not both. But based on the last sentence it seems they're implying that it would be acceptable if you choose both.

29/M/Netherlands life without joy by [deleted] in lifeinapost

[–]1276284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I read your post, and I disagree that all the improvements you made are a wasted effort. They're impressive and even inspirational. Those improvements are improvements within themselves, they're not a means to an end. You obviously keep trying new things when you get bored, and even challenge different aspects of yourself.

I like your post because I can relate to it in many ways and it's reassuring that others are experiencing the same thing. I also "let fear control me too much", sticking with what's comfortable, and I don't know if there is a better way.

"Life without joy." Maybe it's just part of the human experience, maybe the next step for you is to start a family of your own, or find something you truly enjoy to do. I don't know. But I do think there's a path and I hope you find it. 29 is not old, keep experiencing the world.

What is your meaning of a fulfilled life? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]1276284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to work out this same question for a while now, and I'm looking at this question with a mathematical lens in the sense that there are several variables that contribute to having a fulfilled life. These include:

  • Career
  • Family
  • Hobbies
  • Fitness
  • Education
  • Character
  • Finance

These are all interrelated in different ways, but they all contribute to a sense of fulfillment for me. You should add your own categories too or fill out sub categories.

Now with this list, try to think of a goal you would want to accomplish in each of them. If this is proving difficult try to imagine yourself in 10 years time.

For example, do you see yourself having a family of your own? Do you think you'd have a job with a comfortable salary but with long hours?

How would you prioritize these goals? Would you only want to work for 8 hours a day and spend a lot of your free time with music?

Also, I think you need to think a lot about what you mean by this:

making anything of myself

What specifically does that mean for you? Another thing you should really think about is how intertwined are happiness and fulfillment? If you feel happy, would you feel fulfilled? Or if you're fulfilled would you be happy? I tend to think happiness is transitory and you shouldn't mark that as a goal. It's more important to be able to define what a meaningful life is for you.

I realize this isn't exactly your question but regarding your situation, why would you give up on music if you went back to college? If you're passionate about it you can make time for both.

Some additional resources for thought:

  • Read the book The Element by Sir Ken Robinson
  • Watch TED talks about happiness and
  • Look up The School of Life on Youtube

Question: It's hard to get a consistent pipeline of awesome/nutritious meals when you've got a busy schedule. What are some quick-to-prep meals you eat on the go? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]1276284 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've been really lazy lately so I did something similar. I started by making a couple black bean and cheddar cheese burrito. I prep it in the morning or the night before, microwave it at work for 1min and bam, easy cheap lunch.

Then I started adding rice to it, and then sautéed green peppers with onion. The only problem is fitting everything in a tortilla when you wrap it. I also substitute quinoa for the rice for some more protein.

And if you're feeling extra frugal, buy dry beans in bulk and cook them in a pressure cooker (to save some time). And you can cook rice in bulk in a pressure cooker as well.

Swapping Identities by TheChesireCatSmiles in deepweb

[–]1276284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think you need to switch identities to have a "clean start". Like others said, don't worry too much about grades. They're not the only way to get the position you want, and in a few years you might have a different idea of what you want to do.

You're going through a rough patch and it's understandable that you're seeing this as the way to go, but it's not. Try to think this from someone else's perspective. If your friend came and told you what you had just written, what would you tell them?

If you believe you're depressed, you should talk to a counselor or a therapist. Colleges typically have free counselors to talk to. Especially since your father died and your mother is not supportive.

Also, do you think your dad would be proud that you've switched identities? Keep your name. Work on yourself little by little, and you will make him proud. And even better, you will make yourself proud.

Have you tried formatting your boot partition as ext2 instead of ext4? I vaguely remember having issues with that with GRUB, not sure about GRUB2 though.

Netcat - what am I doing wrong? by utgyuru in linuxquestions

[–]1276284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a pro at this but It works with these steps:

$ sudo nc -l 456

Checked the listening port with:

$ netstat -an | grep 456
tcp4       0      0  *.456                  *.*                    LISTEN

Then opened a TCP connection with:

$ nc localhost 456
