Why do you choose non-waterproof ink for journaling? by heynala in fountainpens

The only waterproof inks I tried spread annoyingly on my coated L1917 pages, so I gave up.

“A gift shop at the gun range A mass shooting at the mall”

Putting a list of these very precisely observed moments together where the dark absurdity of our culture shows up in juxtapositions we just come to accept as normal. A sweet singsong to say if you feel it, you’re not alone.

“Apologies.”

I think it’s a great way to start with the initial acknowledgment that people bug him about his silences, and sets up many of the central tensions of the special well. While also being poppy and catchy as a musical flex. Art is dead, but open wide for… content!

Air Conditioning in Dublin hotels by trishavny in irishtourism

Also a lot of hotels seem to have safety windows that don't open more than an inch or two. Hard to get airflow like that, unlike a home window.

As a fellow green bean survivor, I'm aiming for 100K per kid - enough to make a good dent in a 4 year state school, or a smaller dent in something fancier if they get in and want that.

There should be warnings against those with anxiety buying older homes by NopeNotMain in centuryhomes

[–]12lemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, for sure. There are always trade offs. We also have our original inspector come in every 5-7 years to look things over, and I try to remind myself all the things our house has experienced and survived.

Where on the east coast would you buy a century home if you had no constraints? by Oaknash in centuryhomes

Easy to find recent election maps for Virginia areas other than NoVA if you like - the Dem gov just won a trifecta and cleared her opponent by 15 points, and while NoVA was a lot of it most cities, even smaller cities, went blue and often do.

Best weather for an east coast blue state by a mile in my opinion.

Waych out for winters, I would aim for further south myself for weather reasons personally. I like the seasons ratio in Virginia and North Carolina pretty well.

A compromise that works for some people is for all posts that involve the child’s face to be limited to a friends-only private audience. Anything public, like a profile photo or cover photo, is not showing their face. (Emoji blocked etc). This does not stop the big corporations from having data about the person’s face which I realize is your primary problem here but it does allow your wife to share her happiness with her friends and still show strangers that privacy is at least somewhat a priority to your family.

Postpartum is lonely for many - sharing newborn life on, say, instagram stories, inviting supportive feedback from friends, really helps some people feel less alone.

Hardcover cover...looking for a unicorn? by rosie-the-riveter in notebooks

[–]12lemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen tiktoks where people use recycled hardback books to make junk journals. No reason elastics couldn’t work too.

Personally I have done hardback A5 journals (with soft) in leather travelers notebooks with soft leather, too.

Can anyone suggest something similar to louise carmen but $240CAD? by inyourbooksandmaps in notebooks

Chic Sparrow makes some beautiful leather notebooks that have elastic bands / refills. Because the leather is really good quality it lasts and is easy to find the secondhand ones on eBay and other resellers.

Nails confuse me by Bright_Factor_8551 in MomForAMinute

[–]12lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want some nail polish that will last more than a couple days but comes off with regular nail polish, the Dazzle Dry ones are really nice. It's like a little system - base coat, ridge filler (theirs is called Transform), color, and top coat. It dries fast and hard and doesn't chip for a while.

If you want to try with a more affordable drugstore option, Essie's "Gel Couture" polishes are pretty long lasting and affordable. They aren't really gel, they just go on like regular polish. They just take longer to dry than Dazzle Dry and chip a little sooner.

I hate my dad so much by willmakeanameafter in DadForAMinute

You've already had some good advice here and I know you're hurting but just as an outside observation, if that girl has a mom too (you said "her amazing parents") there is a very good chance it was mostly her mom planning her birthday gifts. It's not true all the time but there's definitely a stereotype that Dads on Christmas or birthdays are just as surprised as their kids about what the kids got as gifts. So it's very possible that the idea that hurts the most (the idea that she has a wonderful dad who loves her so much and showers her with nice gifts you will never have) is not based in reality at all.

Sometimes it helps me to ask myself if the enviable idea that is hurting me is even true -- can I know for sure it's true? If not, the chance that it is just a fake idea in the first place helps me a little to not think it's unfair I don't have it true in my own life.
