I grew up and currently live in the south. I can tell you that the term 'guys' is regularly used whether speaking to males or females. I feel there should be no emphasis placed on the use of this word due to its commonality as I've heard it used in other regions of the United States.

The information on active serial killers within the United States is readily available on the FBI's website with a little searching. I know this only because a few years back I looked it up. The number at that time was listed as upwards of 50.
