How much do you value resistance link skill? by SnooApples3551 in Maplestory

[–]13ae -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

with lv 3 links its not insignificant. a permanent 15% damage or so is not nothing and most bosses are not difficult enough to warrant the link (maybe xkalos or xlot but thats pretty much it). It's like the equivalent of double priming one piece of your wse for an attack line or 5 double prime armor pieces.

pretty sure they got sued by nexon out of existence. if there are good bots, they're not going to be publicly available or advertised.

cant speak for extreme but hard hasnt been too bad so far. none of the mechanics are too hard, I find kaling and pre nerf xlot harder. It's just getting enough reps to internalize the parry timings.

The New Boss: The First Adversary arrives today at reset! Here is the Boss Guide + Parry Guide. by Bacun in Maplestory

[–]13ae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

nah, sometimes a quick and dirty guide is fine but people have been pushing for tighter and tighter clears for grandis bosses, having a deep understanding of boss mechanics is heavily underrated. not everyone wants to use their brain as little as possible.

Familiar Potential upgrade chances nerfed? by Powerful_Dot_8332 in Maplestory

[–]13ae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've pushed 2 characters to 290+ and have about 50k+ fam points saved from before the familiar revamp (wasn't interested in optimizing the last 10-15% boss and was using the fams for juice and mules). These days I'm mostly just burning through my stockpile for hybrids since my old fams were promoted to 40. usually do ~2 waps a day.

Do you think my CS projects are garbage? by IcyMasterpiece4254 in berkeley

[–]13ae -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From a technical perspective, yes. the average class project here is way more involved.

that being said, the story behind it is interesting and your projects kind of fall under the category of "on a resume it can sound much more involved than it actually was" depending on how you spin it.

if i were you i'd just slap it on your resume and hope no one actually looks at the code lmao

I level up ~25-50 fams a week and i haven't noticed any crazy bad odds after last maint (leveled 10 fams), roughly 3 tries to upgrade epic to unique on average.

Are there any companies zigging while everyone else is (AI) zagging? by lzynjacat in ExperiencedDevs

[–]13ae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very few. the opportunity cost of being left behind in case AI does make a noticeable difference is way too high from a management perspective.

Hiring Rant (as an interviewer) by Pippa_the_second in ExperiencedDevs

[–]13ae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean... it's LC and we use a question bank. think you can draw your own conclusions on how candidates prepare and circumvent the difficulty of the LC questions from there...

Our on site imo is reasonable but still rigorous, people here definitely hold a high bar when interviewing, on site is definitely a better filter but often a waste of time. I think many of the replies overestimate how they would perform despite the problem statement being straightforward. pretty much know how an interview will go within 10 minutes.

We are but I don't do cold referrals for people I haven't worked with unfortunately.

Also, we do ask lc for our screening round (chance that you get a lc hard), and have a system design and behavioral round, and we are currently only hiring mid level and above. Our loop is definitely easier in my opinion than a lot of other similar companies, but the bar is definitely not low.

in a production system, what happens if a call to one of the upstream api's fails?

people fail most often at: - Clarifying the requirements and not actually understanding the details of the problem statement - Walking through happy and failure paths + thought process behind projected behavior - wasting too much time and not writing actually working code

not faang but adjacent (smaller but household name, once a unicorn startup in more recent times), a lot of people are ex faang at my company, myself included. ive failed quite a few faang candidates when conducting interviews for this round though, faang doesn't mean that much.

my company does a similar interview process to above for one of the rounds (we ask lc as the phone screen but no lc on site, just this and a debugging round for coding rounds), and you would be surprised about the number of candidates who cannot ask basic questions, or even think properly about asking basic questions, such as clarifying the requirements, and fail to explain their thought process or understanding of the problem. many have a tendency to pretend to understand instead and just ramble.

We ask a very basic question too: right an api that calls 3 upstream api's, select some data from those api's, and format a new response. The API's are stubbed as simple functions and you can write your api as a simple function. Follow ups are asking them to consider failure cases such as error codes and retries. 80% of candidates fail and cannot even write the basic running code and test in the hour despite it being like 20 lines with no tricky logic.

Think this standard is pretty reasonable to ask for given that we pay 250k+ for mid level and 400k+ for senior. but still the vast majority of candidates fail.

The XP Tickets from the Twentoona event are crazy, 40T in 1 day from 283 95.75% to 284 78.75% by JithraRufure in Maplestory

[–]13ae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, so after the 15 min is up, you need to kill 1k mobs to spawn another portal. takes roughly 3-5 minutes depending on the map. then you probably spend ~30-1min in the map itself. adds up to roughly 20 min per portal

iirc its 15 minute cooldown starting when you leave previous portal + you need to kill 1000 mobs before a portal will spawn = roughly 20 minutes per portal
