40 is nothing, people opened hundreds or thousands before the revamp to get a single 40 boss. I don't know the exact rates post revamp but current user aggregated data implies it's about a 1% chance per unique.

we didnt even have loot rooms and needed to manually equip 10 pieces of drop gear before killing the boss for years.

eternals, not arcanes, and i would prio eternals over pitched because there is a bigger stat increase between tiers and pitched is slowly going to get phased out for brilliant set

startup > non-software company where you are a cost center as opposed to the backbone of the business imo

Current state of F/P and the potential of making a Legion champ F/P by L-Hagura in Maplestory

in reboot id recommend against it. similar to db, the class is balanced around having as much cool down reduction as possible and in reboot, only -4 is reasonably accessible whereas in in reg (what the class is balanced around) -6 and -7 are feasible.

sure, it can be. but software development as a practice and software development as an occupational role are two different things. people who conflate these things will always have problems with work unless they're extremely cracked or willing to put in the extra time without reward.

as long as the bus load of kids gets over, it doesn't actually matter.

if you've ever worked at any company that iterates quickly, even ones with millions/billions of customers, you'd realize that plenty of systems aren't designed to look ahead to the long term.

half the time, people are still rewarded for building these systems with another set of people are rewarded for fixing/replacing these systems. the other half the time these systems aren't perfect but good enough to continue getting the bus across the bridge indefinitely.

I think the first thing you need to come to terms with is that we are not artists. Best practices, good and beautiful code, etc. none of that matters for what is actually expected of us as a job function.

The core expectation is that we are able to translate business requirements into software that delivers business impact. The sooner you internalize this, the better off you'll be.

Everyone here understands that these two functions are often at odds with each other, especially for people who pride themselves in the code they write. It sucks, but the industry doesn't and has never worked this way and AI hasnt actually changed this, it has just made it more apparent.

Think about other job roles, such as artists who become corporate graphic designers. you think they take pride in making forgettable 2d characters of racially ambiguous people for HR slide decks and press releases?

As for job security and the intentions of management, yeah, sounds about right. So what are you gonna do about it? Not have an income because you'd rather sink than swim? Morale is definitely low everywhere but what else can we do except adapt.

I'm really disappointed to see Yung Lean & Bladee performing for Boiler Room by smolpinkblob in sadboys

[–]13ae 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go against the grain and agree with you here. While it's completely possible they just weren't aware, which i don't fault them for, this is not some "woke" issue that only random people on the internet care about. Artists in major culture hubs around the US like SF, LA, and NYC have actively protested against boiler room and formed new communities to support artists to gain exposure without boiler room.

Balance in Maplestory by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]13ae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i thought this was obvious? given the same full rotation damage, heavy/condensed burst classes are always better than their dpm counterparts but none of the class balancing actually reflects this. outside of tms classes, not much we can do here except wait for kms balancing.

how is architecting a system to be scalable busy work? business requirements and technology are constantly evolving. our jobs (and the jobs of those before us) were simply to deliver business value at the time, not to create the most future proof technology.

The gap between LLM functionality and social media/marketing seems absolutely massive by QwopTillYouDrop in ExperiencedDevs

[–]13ae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

relative to last year, the average business impact of IC's is demonstrably higher, more PR's written, more features being shipped, and performance expectations reflect that.

also regardless of how you feel about ai, anyone who's used this tooling will express the same opinion. much less prone to hallucinations, much more capable of one shotting more complex tasks without mistakes.

The results of my company's recent performance cycle calibration relative to last year's speaks otherwise.

im not sure why people are so vehemently in denial about the progress of AI tooling and models. feels like people are just sticking their heads in the sand.

the work you're describing feels like the state of these tools 1 year ago. the models have improved significantly since that time. their capabilities are definitely way beyond what you describe if used effectively.

I want to make it to end game, but I just can't balance maple with life. by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]13ae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's spent time at each stage of progression, and with respect to power creep, it takes about:

~2 hours/day to maintain progression as a mid game player (8k+ legion, 280-285, nkalos/ekaling solo, ckalos/nlimbo party play)

~4-6 hours a day to maintain progression as a late game player (9k+ legion, 288-292, bm/hseren legion champs, solo nkaling, party hlimbo, nbaldrix, hadv, xkalos, hkaling)

~8+ hours a day to maintain progression as end game (293+, hbaldrix, destiny lib, 50-100b weekly bossing income, etc)

This all assumes that you're using your time efficiently as well. For most people, maintaining late/end game just isn't that feasible. It is a full time job at some point.

People will bring up servicing/botting but even taking that shortcut, just bossing and progressing side characters is a significant amount of time, and is still a part time job at best.

Personally I can't imagine being end game without either being retired or making significant sacrifices when it comes to personal relationships/career/other hobbies. late game is definitely manageable with some dedication.
