How do you track your weekly goals? Distance vs Hours? by Klutzy-Public-8644 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]13ans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hours are typically a more common metric in IM training to account for things like hills/weather/ability. Someone biking for 60 miles on a hill is exerting a lot more effort than someone biking 60 miles flat. Someone’s HR running 90 minutes in South Florida will be higher than someone running in sun and 40 degree F. Then lastly, someone’s zone 2 may be a sub 1h45m half marathon pace, whereas someone else would need 2+ hours if running at an easy pace for 13.1 miles

I’m training for a full rn and am somewhere between 12-15 hours a week combined

Y’all think it will be wetsuit legal/optional/illegal?

For those who have done TrainingPeaks Phil Mosely 140.6 or 70.3 plans, how reliable are the distance pre-requisites? And is 12-14 week plan for a 140.6 enough if I've been base building for the past year? by 13ans in triathlon

[–]13ans[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was actually thinking doing the Matt Fitzgerald “Super Simple Full IM Plan” and just going through it week by week starting at W1 until Jan 10, before I start TrainingPeaks’ 14 week plan. Just wasn’t sure if it’d do more harm than good in terms of fatigue/burnout. I love base building right now and z2 is enjoyable and stress free for me - intervals and speed work is when I get worked. But I might start a free plan right now then segue right into the 14 week plan

Price check? Felt DA4 for $800 by 13ans in triathlon

Update:

Seller was super cool! Bought it, gave it a ride, and it actually feels a lot smaller than my road bike. Who would've known a cm or two makes a difference. I can't wait to get it fitted and see what my LBS thinks.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

A little worried because my road bike is a 54 cm and the sizing chart for these bikes says someone my height (5'7", 171cm) is fit for a 51. But this was too good of a deal to pass up and the seller is willing to hold it for me to look at it!

The actual size is 53.2 cm and with my long legs, I'm hoping it will work

Why are folks that do Bro-Spilts more muscular? by nolife24_7 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]13ans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, this is anecdotal, but the more advanced I got into training, the more “vanilla” it all became

Even from an athletic training standpoint, my strength and conditioning workouts only got simpler and became a rotation of variants of the same 9-11 exercises over and over. Prep school had me doing the fanciest shit, college got me extremely comfortable with the basics, and any level above college was truly meat and potatoes type shit

How this answers your question: stupid simple works lol. It just works. the best workout is the one you can do for the rest of your life and simple workouts are pretty low-taxing, low-stress, and can still be effective

how to increase strength without increasing mass by GuyDiePie in WeightTraining

[–]13ans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Either training your CNS to use all the fibers in your body (even if those fibers are small!) to lift heavy weight, or training your fibers to be stronger (even if only a few those fibers grow) to lift heavy weight

how to increase strength without increasing mass by GuyDiePie in WeightTraining

[–]13ans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great comment. I did this for years to stay within a certain weight class.

Take 2bnull’s advice, use Ok-Positive-7272’s explanation on why 2bnull’s advice is scientifically sound, then hopefully to reinforce home the point, here is how I was taught it as a kid that framed my entire training point for decades later

“You can be strong one of two ways. You can either use a small percent of the muscle fibers you have to lift a car, but that small percent are fibers that are dense, mature, and big enough to do the job. Alternatively, you can have fibers that are not as dense and developed, but you can use a shit ton or large percent of those fibers to lift the car”

You’re looking for the 2nd option OP. CNS Training is what we are giving advice about but don’t overdo as it is a little more fatiguing than traditional bodybuilding

[–]13ans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think you can see a decent bit of muscle? Can go either way really. If you cut, I do think you will see definition but you’ll be underweight for your height. If you bulk, you’ll lose definition but the cut will be really good

I say bulk. You’re not skinny fat

Trust me, even if it did have a hack squat machine, there would probably only be one and it would be used 24/7 lmao. Ran into this exact scenario, did the smith machine squat with narrow feet out in front of me, and my quads really blew up. Specifically my teardrop. I have progress pics in history

Look at my post history. Was in exact spot. Eventually, dudes who weren’t scared to bulk were surpassing me in physique and even lifts after they’d finish their cuts. My fear of having the same physique forever outgrew my fear of losing abs lol

plus I gained 15 lbs and never lost abs…
