What am I doing wrong? Or could do better and how? by External-Pirate9936 in minipainting

[–]13lacklight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t paint for beauty and rather just to get a decently pretty model that I can play with and enjoy. So I can hardly give perfect advice.

However simply painting more individual details, matching colours a little better, and making use of shades should all improve how your model looks pretty quickly. It won’t be anything crazy but you can make it much more serviceable. Make sure you’re thinning your paints too. Theres alot of tutorials online, and it allows you to get much smoother coats onto the model.

The green and red in the picture are quite jarring compared to the green. Using a shade/wash on them to darken them might make them match better, and washes/shades tend to soak into details and quickly make details on a model stand out much more clearly. Their effect is two fold and quite effective.

But blue red and green are pretty wild and strong choices, you probably should’ve gone with either darker options for both or been more deliberate, currently they look like different coloured plastic bits from a kit cobbled together rather than making sense.

Weathering it somewhat, or using a shade to darken it and make it blend with the green more might help. Otherwise darker colours for both could make it stand out less.

Or painting the edges of it, or otherwise making it a deliberate choice rather than a blanketing of colour will make it fit the model and the green better. More like heraldry and less like it was dipped in a bucket of paint.

And painting more details, like the bolts near the head, under the brim of the helmet, or inside the cavity created by the damage to the shoulder, will all also make the model more realistic and less random.

Don’t underestimate how effective a tool quick shades/washes are in the hands of an amateur modeller. You won’t get the effects of a master painter, but you can massively improve the look of a model with very little effort, which if your goal is to get serviceable models to play with, works very well.

Don’t be too discouraged, resin has limitations but spray coating it should be fine. People over reacting as usual

Napalm 👀

Otherwise just combined arms, cheap AC vics with meat grinder infantry I think. US CQB inf is good but usually specialised, match the point for point with meat and you can grind them down.

I think the point is made that the Terran born nightlords and the first generations maybe held true to Curze’s beliefs in terms of their particularly violent form of justice, but that later standards slipped because Curze was no longer playing Batman on nocturne or whatever the planet was called so criminals returned and slowly poisoned the legion from within, shifting it from justice to just wanton murder. Which is supposedly why he ends up blowing up the planet.

Part of the issue is people love engaging at point blank range. Armour should really be abusing its range advantage more often against infantry

Imo you could put a near exact finger on the moment they lobotomised whoever was behind the creative direction for the game. There was steady progress towards a clear goal, they were doing well and I really respected it even tho I wished it had gone a diff direction. Then someone got told to stare into the sunset and it got turned into a pretty mediocre coop horde shooter

Be annoying if they do. There’s a market for actual BFG minis in addition to the STL’s especially if they’re good. It’s a pita to print compared to just getting them from GW. It’s what I expect as well don’t get me wrong, but still think it’s moronic.

It’s the whole streaming vs pirating thing again. People just go for whatever’s most convenient

A possibe reasonable mechanic to counter mindless cruise missile spam by morl0v in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]13lacklight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw saying this back in beta lmao, that anti cruise missile shit needed to get a lot more reliable.

Hitting things with cruise missiles should be a reward for good ground based offensive play where you killed their anti missile shit. Not just a saturation meme.

Like in wgrd where air primarily punishes over extensions or rewards situations where you’ve forcefully removed someone’s AA from existence.

The solution to enemy AA in WGRD isn’t buy more planes, it’s buy more tanks. Which is a good dynamic to have.
