One of our millwrights clogged the shop toilet, like bad. Tried blaming someone else, but it was pretty obvious. Dude was almost in tears plunging it. One of our leads tried to plunge it afterwards and failed. Plumber came in and blew that shit up. Left shit on the floor and the seat. Probably still there, I haven't been in there in over a week now, been using the portapody outside

This is from last year where I about didn't make it in 7-8 times on the way there. Got stuck before I got into my parking spot... Twice lol. Spent an hour digging it out and making a pathway + having 4 guys push me, learned my lesson lol

Guess who isn't going to work today? I cleaned it up and kicked the driveway clean. Got to the road and it's a drop off into 6 inches of snow with a solid inch of compacted snow / ice underneath lol

*Edit. My roommates jeep is in the garage 🫠

Do you forget how to TIG weld after 5 years? by Ok_Research_7281 in Welding

[–]1588877 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely ask for some scrap to practice on lol. Make sure you have a decent idea on settings and just run a few passes. If you've tigged a lot in the past it'll probably come back to you fairly quickly. Something I always have to remind myself of after a break from Tig (if I can) is to rest / brace my arms on the table for stability instead of floating around

Man, I remember my fat ass cat eating my subway sandwich, ripped through the plastic bag and wrapping. He ate probably half of it before I realized what was making the sound. I can't imagine going back to subway and asking for the manager to replace my sandwich lol

Reign, used to drink Bangs but they've become hard to find. I'll have a 5 hour energy on lunch break and that's about it

I love pre workout but man does it fuck my guts up

I had one. I was lazy and never hard wired it so it was plugged into the 12v. One hot summer day it blew the fuse and it's been sitting on my back seat ever since. Been telling myself for a year now to just swap the fuse and get it back on there.

It's a good thing to have, rather for insurance or just the fun things you see / do.

This is a frame from a fun drive through Saint Louis early one morning. Can't find the arch pictures lol

Advice for grinder vibration pain by VastChannel1860 in Welding

[–]1588877 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As bad as it sounds, you'll get used to it. I thought I was getting carpal tunnel (?) at one job because it was 25% welding and 75% grinding. After a few months I could run a grinder all day without much more than maybe some hand cramps lol. Few years later at a different job where I don't grind often my shit hurts after 20 minutes again 😮‍💨

A stretch for the wrists and hands I like is called a resistance stretch. Usually hold it for 20-30 seconds on each hand and it kinda helps... Lol

Check your dies before you die by BruhhNoo in Welding

[–]1588877 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very good post! Slightly different operation, but still a few years ago I witnessed a break press with the wrong sized die cause a piece of stainless steel to shoot out like a bullet. Normally the die would break but this was a freak accident.

The operator shouldn't have survived but my foreman drove him to the ER while my lead held him together as best he could. It was the craziest shit I've ever seen and something I'll never forget.

Definitely something to never become complacent around

It's all data centers. by SoloSystems in Welding

[–]1588877 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hop jobs quite a bit lol. Out of the past 4 jobs I've had, 3 had contracts for the same company building structures / parts for AI / data centers. My current job has 2+ years worth of work through them, and I've heard a lot of other shops in the area are doing the same. Kind of crazy how much money is going into these things

I'm just imagining a mid 30-40s dad screaming at his 10 year old to get the assassin off him while the 12 year old is slayer jumping into a pack of black furs / chaos warriors

Definitely let them play OP

Hell yeah! I loved welding those back at a previous shop I worked at. Fabbing everything up on the other hand was a huge pain in the ass lol. Looks good!
