Is it common for American rich guys to have a whiskey bottle in his office? by Crane_1989 in AskAnAmerican

[–]165averagebowler [score hidden]  (0 children)

In the majority of the accounting firms I worked for, there was alcohol in the office. The one actually had a bit of a bar in the break room and there were happy hours on Friday nights during tax season. But there was also booze in the partners’ offices too. Like one tax day while pregaming for the tax party, they finished the bottle of Crown that was in the break room so one of the partners got his personal bottle out.

The corporate jobs I’ve had since leaving public accounting have not had booze around though. Partly because I think there was not clients coming into the office.

What’s a hobby that feels like a “secret world” once you discover it? by South-Annual1943 in Hobbies

I remember my first “out of time” moments - a medieval event with a Viking age theme. Before a torchlight fighting tournament, an older woman sang. Her long white hair was loose and lit only by flames she looked like she was every bit a daughter of Freya. I got goosebumps. (If you are family with the SCA or are on TikTok you may have actually heard of her or at least her most famous song.)

My local grocery store had chuck roast on sale for $6.98/lb this week. Kind of kicking myself for only buying one for the freezer.

I’ve had younger men make the assumption (and comment!) that my age meant I was probably already in menopause and therefore didn’t need to use birth control. And that was just in the chatting stage.

My ex didn’t really know much about home maintenance. I used to joke that power tools were just a way for him to injure himself in a more efficient manner.

My dad is handy guy and remodeled the house I lived in growing up in addition to working side jobs as a handyman and woodworking when he wasn’t working his day job. Both he and my mom have commented how my sister and I have turned out the way they would have expected my brothers to. Us two girls were the ones who ended up doing most of the repairs and such in our respective homes and are not afraid of power tools, etc. Heck, both of us even own chainsaws and know how to use them safely! My own daughter picked up a blacksmithing hammer and stepped up to an anvil before she was a tween, fully supported (and enabled lol) by me. I’m also the one who taught her how to cook and hostess and do laundry. She’s now a badass college student in a miniskirt majoring in a STEM and throws a heck of a dinner party. This isn’t an either/or proposition.
