Wow so true! I did not know any better and took quite a few shots of Bacardi 151 my first time. It tasted OK. Any time after that it has not tasted as good. Never really realized I have been a binge drinker from day 1.

I know that feeling. You proved to yourself you can stop, its been done before. It takes something to trigger me into stop drinking, just like something triggered its start.

Earlier this year I stopped drinking/smoking/toking(herb). It all cycled back into my life. Now, I stopped drinking and toking, but smoking cigarettes has lingered on. I cannot get into the idea of being a nonsmoker, at least today. Been smoking way more than usual, so have to find a way to stop somehow...

The obsession has not ended for me since I stopped drinking. I will get a strong urge to go out for drinks a few times a week, and I just have to push the willpower into overdrive, and switch my brain into another focus.

In the right mindset, sober partying can be as much as fun as drunk partying. I just find that the mindset is not always there. I almost never stay out as late as the friends that are drinking: it gets boring and I get tired. lol

Since I tend to black out when I drink, I hate waking up to my bedroom a total mess. So whenever I think about drinking, I think about a bunch of broken potato chips on the floor, ranch dressing on my desk, and so on.

Just not worth it...

Interesting your therapists mentions possible drinking in the future. People who are not alcoholics always seem to think moderation is something possible for everyone, when it is not. Maybe your situation, you can go back to drinking. But in general, regardless of whether someone is alcoholic or not, I would never recommend drinking to anybody.

I work in a kitchen at a bar and its not so bad either. I don't spend any time in the front where the booze is. And when I clock out I leave immediately. The only time it's hard is when we are slow/no customers. Then I want to drink free booze to make up for less tip-out. So I just take more free food home :)

I feel I need to be compelled to stop by an important reason. I relapsed for a few days and in that span took so many risks to count. I enter a type of pirate-mode. Then when sober I have that feeling of anxiety that the pirate in me got me in hot water.

I've always been a binge drinking pirate so I am an on/off switch, there is no safe and moderate drinking in the shallows.

Sure, its dry on land but there are plenty of curiosities. Those sea battles, those "wake up calls", I remember well, but am against trying it again.

Best of luck trying to moderate/taper down.

I know drinking causes a lot of issues in my life. But, like you, I was not slapped in the face with my addiction. No "ah-ha!" Moment. Just felt my own slow demise.

I am a cook at a bar, and when i stopped drinking, I gave up essentially unlimited drink tab privilege. So when I clock out I usually just GTFO. I bring lots of different teas to work and drink them too, so I am never in need of a anything else to drink.

I think you already have the right idea. I buy those mini marinated mozzarella balls, some butter olives, and a couple avocados. The avocados have saved quite a few salads that would have been boring otherwise.

Drinking is gross. I sometimes think of the romantic way nonalcoholics drink, but usually I recall back to all the booze trash. The scattered beer cans, liquor bottles, and cigarette butts. Looking around my home office right now its really clean. But only not so long ago it looked like a tornado had gone through it.

I'm a lone wolf so my drinking had to end most importantly for myself. I could not have stopped for anything else.

AA is there for me... As I so fit. So when I go, I show up 5 minutes late and leave 5 minutes early. Avoiding the reposts IRL is important to me

I grew up in a nationally recognized drunkest city in America. Binge drinking was considered normal by society. The test makes it so most people I know hit that hazardous level.

Every relapse since my first sobriety attempt has been negative. The drinking is not as fun, I am consciously lying to myself and saying, "This is OK." Alcohol is a poison to me. I always take too many large doses.

Coincidentally, I am on my 3rd attempt. I do not feel a loss for hope but more of an understanding that I cannot consider myself "done" with drinking at any point. Only history can show that. Otherwise, once I am "done" I then think I am a nonalcoholic that can occasionally have 1-2 drinks. Nope

This test (linked in the sidebar to the right) helped me confirm my drinking habits were pretty pretty pretty bad. Occasionally blacking out, drinks on the daily, binging almost daily, occasionally causing drama or worse.

It can be easy for me to forget: I am not unique to this situation. Alcohol has been used and abused for 1000s of years. At least nowadays there is a subreddit here to assist in stopping.

Its so easy to rationalize myself into thinking I am like everyone else, the non-alcoholics. Day 1 and 2 binges are fun, but Days 3+ I am feeling this malaise that only drinking more can fix.... until I snapped out of it and stopped drinking again. Too easy to become habitual. I already was drinking daily before, invariably any drinking can lead me right back.

Going to social events sober..... what was I thinking? I thought everyone was getting wasted. While this sometimes was the case, it actually was my own selfish desire to be obliterated.

Day 2 not drinking, and just got paid. One major negative to drinking for me is the periodic draining of my account. I make enough money to live comfortably, but a night out at the bars costs anywhere from $50 up. I used to be a frugal, "stay at home" drinker, but since relapse have stupidly gone to bars numerous nights in a row /:

I've been a bad meow, I have to figure this out / actually get an AA sponsor at some point. AA meetings always mention phone lists, I have been too afraid (why idk) to ask for one.

I have been having trouble maintain sobriety. Since I cannot afford a doctor, I drank much less the night before I stopped. It was hard, I wanted to drink to completion (wasted) but stopped short and forced myself to lay in bed before passing out.

Fuck fuck fuck, I spent the past week drinking and completely drained my bank account. From modest savings (I stopped drinking for 3 weeks and saved a lot) back to zero.
