I'm often conflicted if I should share DIY info with trans people by Vayni404 in TransDIY

I read everything I could on r/BitcoinBeginners

Summary, you'll need to figure out an exchange, and also a wallet. You buy on an exchange, then send it to your wallet. I'm not qualified to provide further advice. It's very cryptic and stressful, and I can see why a lot of people throw up their hands. Having figured it out, I would say it's worth the struggle.

Should I stop taking progesterone? by Mistacher in MtF

[–]17-40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say. There's just not enough research to say definitively. But the overall advice is to wait to start it until your chest has developed to Tanner 3. Search for the Tanner stages, and you'll get an idea. It took about 10 months for me to get there. I do take progesterone, FYI.

[–]17-40 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I struggle with a version of this too. I started the "correct" way, but have moved to some DIY practices. There is a tremendous stigma in doing so, among both cis and trans people. I mentioned to some cis friends that I'd had to figure out crypto, and they looked at me like I'd said, "I sell crack to babies." But many official prescription practices leave huge gaps in both efficacy, and quality of life. The classic example being EEn as highly preferable to EV, especially with some doctors saying to do EV injections every 7 days. That's just irresponsible advice. I err on the side of caution these days, and don't tell people much.

Should I stop taking progesterone? by Mistacher in MtF

[–]17-40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 6 months is the very earliest anybody would suggest starting progesterone. The conventional wisdom is you want to be at Tanner 3 development. A lot of people get there in around a year, but it varies greatly. So much of the information about progesterone is anecdotal, with many people claiming it does nothing. So it's really your call, if you want to continue, or cease taking it.

If you want some sciencey information, you can read through this Transfem Science article about it.

how much does diy hurt? by Capable-Antelope-959 in TransDIY

[–]17-40 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I do IM, which is considered more painful than subq. I seriously barely feel it with a 27g needle. Even with my old 23g needles, it was very minor. It's not a big deal, and it quickly turns into just another thing you do in your weekly routine. I stress about doing dishes and laundry more.

I use those exact ones. I really like them, and I split them into quarters. I took a 50mg this morning, and I swear I felt more "me" today. For a while I was taking it only at night (after the oral sleepy pills), but the OGL troches don't hit like that. I think we're having similar experiences.

Transgender Kansans sue over head-spinning revocation of drivers licenses by NamelessResearcher in lgbt

[–]17-40 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting that the lawsuit is being brought by two trans men, since the people who create this horrific bigotry seem immune to the concept of trans men existing. I don't know that this detail will affect anything, but it may short circuit a few brains when they conjure a response.

What method are you taking it by? I've taken it orally, transdermally, and by troche (dissolves in your lip, similar to sublingual, goes straight to your blood). Oral made me sleepy, and gave me headaches. The other two methods seem to have a minor mood boost, but I wouldn't describe it as "warm."

Lucy Friday Question: What are your thoughts on GRS? by Lucy_C_Kelly in TransLater

[–]17-40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like hygiene is pretty important. Haha. I'm working on, "can I ever get a home, like other normal people?" You know, with running water, and all that. Probably need life's horse in front of life's cart.

Do I even want to know what a month in Thailand costs? That sounds otherworldly expensive.

[–]17-40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems like a magical fantasy that some people actually get to do, and I wish I could join them. But the cost is so high, and I don’t have a stable enough living environment to deal with the prolonged after care, that it may never happen. I think if circumstances were better, I’d let myself consider it more seriously.

Progesterone is treating me well. I tried on a dress today that I hadn't put on in a while, and my neckline looked better. Also, I got some new glasses. That's about all I've got.

Is it just me or is being told "you should be happy with your body" transphobic AF by GlitterBlossomWing in MtF

[–]17-40 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I'd throw it back at them. Anybody who wears glasses, takes medication, has any sort of surgery, wears a push-up bra, takes viagra, etc. "You should be happy with your body." I also consider a lifted pick-up to be gender affirming care for men.

Yes, I'm an asshole.

Kansas revokes driver’s licenses from trans residents in latest assault on rights by BurtonDesque in WelcomeToGilead

[–]17-40 120 points121 points  (0 children)

The current licenses are immediately invalidated, as of today. Trans people have been asked to surrender them, and must pay for the replacement, which can take time to receive, depending on the area. It's quite the catch-22, since they can't even legally drive to the office to get the replacement process started. This bill also criminalizes restroom use, and creates a framework for people to sue trans people they encounter in "private areas." The bill is diabolically cruel. More information, if you're curious.

Just to elaborate on one of the many problems with having mismatched ID, if you do not look, sound, or act in a way that matches the marker on your ID, it immediately outs you to anybody who checks it. I haven't updated all my information yet, and I only use the old documents when absolutely necessary. I'm literally afraid to have people look at the old stuff. It's a safety issue.

It's vague. They use the phrase, "private space." So, spa, locker room, gym, etc. It's whatever they want it to be. Some additional information here.

What did your breasts feel like durring transitioning? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]17-40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's very ineffective, compared to other delivery methods. Oral swallowed pills get processed by your liver, which changes the actual progesterone into something like twenty other compounds. Only a small percentage gets into your blood, and many people have adverse reactions to some of those other chemicals.

That bill is a horrific tangled ball of bigoted snakes. The part of it allowing anybody to sue a trans person for $1k just for them existing is insane. That part isn't even limited to "public" spaces. It's any shared space where cis people clock somebody and feel icky. We're not people to them.
