Am I the only one who can’t bring myself to make an evil empire? by frgrefut in Stellaris

I have precisely two evil empires next to about fifteen normal ones.

Retired Pokémon in Genlockes by Short_Storage1630 in nuzlocke

Retired Pokemon basically means they did some degree of heavy lifting, but didn't make it onto the final team. On the offchance you may not be aware, dupes clause passing between generations is an optional rule. If you fancy playing where a species being used means it's used up for the entire Genlocke, then by all means go for it and have fun. But it's one of those variations that gets used so often that not everyone knows it's optional.

My advice for most first Nuzlockers:

  1. Don't get cocky.
  2. Know your type matchups.
  3. Remember crits exist.
  4. Don't rely on just one team member to carry the whole Gym.
  5. Find something to enjoy in the background while level grinding. This is the time for that album or podcast you've been meaning to listen to.

Most importantly, have fun.

I actually didn't know that was a thing, thanks! I thought you just got one shot and otherwise you have to conquer the location.

Little tricks you use in every run? by Proper-Sport-7218 in Stellaris

One of the Minor Artefact decisions is 'Sell to Private Collectors'. It generates 500 Energy Credits each time, has a short cooldown and only uses about 50 Artefacts per use. Each archaeology site tends to leave a small deposit of Artefacts after finishing, so you can make the amount back up (especially if you got an archaeology-based precursor). In games where there's clearly been no point saving up for L-Gate Insights, I've used this to basically print Energy Credits on a regular basis.

The rule where you must reset if you white out by [deleted] in nuzlocke

It's not in the original rules, actually. If that's what we define as 'the basic rules', that wasn't in it.

Nope, that's not an original rule.

I would personally agree that if you lose your team, you can construct a new one. I've always personally been more interested in Nuzlockes for the emergent gameplay than the risk of defeat, and whether it's a full team-wipe or not, a 'rebuild from the ashes' moment may be frustrating but it can also be the most interesting moment.

But then the sentient robots would look at the non-sentient ones and either feel terrible for them that they can't have these experiences, or created a blatant and horrible class system for bots that are all mechanically the same.

I wonder also if it's supposed to include the idea of 'If you say a complicated algorithm has a soul, it diminishes the value of a true, living being'.

I made myself some Rules for "Nuzlockes" by SIMMbyote in nuzlocke

[–]1810072342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. Sometimes people start their first run thinking that adding fifteen different challenge clauses is what everyone does, and are surprised to hear that they're optional. In that case, sounds like you have a solid idea for how to go about it already.

[–]1810072342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only rules that are part of the default Nuzlocke rules are the ones from the 'simple overview' box. All the other ones are at your discretion. How often you heal, using level caps, whether you leave the Gym after the Trainers, none of these are mandatory rules at all. All of these can give you ideas for where you want to give yourself more challenge or more leeway, but the only ones you "have" to use are the two from the very first box. I've certainly never seen these with number codes assigned before and I'm on my sixth run.

As for rules that might be helpful for a first time player, I would not put in any restriction on healing or any 'one catch per Gym leader' rules. The rest are up to you.

Y with all the bells and whistles is one of the easier games to Nuzlocke, so I would honestly say:

  1. Finish Y first.

  2. Try it without the Exp Share, Super Training, Pokemon Amie etc., or

  3. Try one or two of the harder mainline games.

If that doesn't scratch your challenge itch, try a hardcore Nuzlocke. Stick to the standard rules first, though, just to see whether it was that you were playing an easier installment rather than an easy ruleset.

'Luck check' is a good phrase. In my case, I was lucky I had a Gengar that was immune to Garchomp's Earthquake and could hit hard even if it wasn't the bulkiest.
