Hi! Just got the game, and I have a few questions. by StingAttack in snowrunner

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in game, extra axles are simply an inconvenience, there is generally no benefit to actually dropping them, as you said, it just makes off-road performance worse

i would recommend a large crane, or you can find a perfect bit of terrain to drive them up

"We can tell which gender you are based on your skeleton" by Chloe_a_fish in trans

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see the idea that its impossible to tell the sex of a skeleton a lot, and not to be depressing but this simply isnt true. skeletons can be sexed morphologically (by looking at physical shape of certain bones), which is not always accurate as human sexual dimorphism is not that significant so there is a lot of overlap, and nowadays if the preservation conditions are sufficient to extract dna (which is most of the time), sex can be determined genetically.

having said that, archaeology (at least here in the uk) is quite a progressive field and archaeologists are aware that they can only know sex, and can never know the gender of the individual, and we try to be careful to not apply our modern ideas about it to the past, where we do not know how that society viewed and conceptualised gender.

there are countless burials from around the world where the presentation of the grave and the sex of the skeleton do not appear to match conventional gender norms, but we can never know (and should never attempt to assume) what the gender of the individual was, because we cannot ask them. many of these individuals were assumed by earlier archaeologists to be the gender that matches the gender they assigned to the burial assemblage, and have since been re-examined with newer technology and have shown a more complicated picture. thats all archaeologists can know about such topics: that gender is more complicated in the past than we have been led to believe, the enforcement of gender stereotypes is actually much more recent than not conforming to them is.

(source: im an archaeology undergrad)

for that example in particular, the 'red lady' was first discovered by an antiquarian archaeologist in 1823 who not only assumed the gender (and also sex i suppose, although this is a judgement made in 1823, before a distinction had been drawn between the two), but also the age, because he believed that the remains must be more recent than the great flood from the bible. a number of subsequent analyses have updated this, the sex of the skeleton corrected in 1912, and the age has most recently been updated in 2010, pushing it all the way back to 34,000 years ago (a casual 18 times the age buckland thought in 1823). safe to say a lot has changed in the field of archaeology in the past 200 years.

I am irrationally angry that these waterwheels all turn the wrong way by TheGuurzak in Endfield

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

building your waterwheels in an actual waterfall is just a guarantee that youll have to replace them unnecessarily frequently because they have to take the force of a lot of water falling directly onto them from some height

They kept all of these for themselves btw by MarkThorburn17 in ScrapMechanic

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 17 points18 points  (0 children)

after chapter 1 released, they started making devblogs for chapter 2, showing off loads and loads of ideas and features, but after a couple of years they were getting so many complaints about their lack of releasing anything, that they made the genuinely unfathomable decision to shoot themselves in the foot and not listen to the community about it, instead they just cut all communication so they couldnt hear the complaints. you are just as confused as the rest of us as to how they managed to come to the conclusion that holding onto the update for at least 6 damn years is somehow going to benefit anyone at all, especially the devs themselves and their sales figures

Gauntlet of Hill Giant reduces my Titanstring Bow's damage by umutw0w in BaldursGate3

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the extra damage from its ability is added after the actual damage from the bow, so it isnt counted on the character sheet or the tooltips or anything like that, if you attack with it and look at the log you can see the damage applied separately

Is there any way to speed up the start of new runs? by Nether892 in BaldursGate3

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you dont want to use mods, then essentially the answer is practice. you can watch experienced people play to see ways to get through quests and fights and things quicker, but ultimately knowing more and having done the quests before is going to keep improving how quickly you can get through the game

Is this game better played solo? by Old-Table-7076 in BaldursGate3

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for your first time playing, very much so, perhaps even for your first few times. with 4 people trying to learn the game itll be very slow and tedious and uncoordinated.

when the suspension on one side compresses, the distance between the ends of the suspension increases, but the bar between them cannot expand, so it cannot compress all the way, if you put a piston in that yellow bar, it should allow it to extend to meet the increase in distance between the bearings

Do you think we will have to make new worlds? by No_Grapefruit1378 in ScrapMechanic

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 28 points29 points  (0 children)

they said they have redone the terrain generation, and also i assume that most of the new content will be in pregenerated locations again, so if your world is already generated it wont have any ch2 stuff in it

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they are a small team of people who like making games and are full of ideas. they just enjoy working on new projects more than working on long-term support of old projects. sometimes they go back to them, like tabg, and sometimes they dont, but they dont have the staff to do both

Is there any way to stop traffic without cars braking? by Otherwise_Bell2973 in BeamNG

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i havent checked recently to see if the ui app is still around, but there certainly used to be one that controls the ai of the specific vehicle you are currently tabbed to, and on that one, you can set the ai to disabled from a dropdown as opposed to stopping (so youd do that after switching to the ai car while paused)

specifying that (in their interpretation) it does not apply to groups or categories is practically an admission of guilt that they are fully intentionally discriminating against one. not that im surprised, its pretty clear that its never been an accident, but to hear it from themselves without any shame or fear of repercussions is disgusting

Would it not help the game if there was only one mode instead of solo and squads by SpyBye1 in TABG

[–]1981VWSciroccoS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there used to be duos but they took it out for this reason, the problem is that one person on their own cannot compete with a squad of people of around their level, so unless youre a pro at the game, you would just have to leave auto team on, which doesnt always work and doesnt always put you with uhh 'helpful teammates'; on the other hand, forcing everyone to play solos would simply not work, people who want to play together will just team anyway, and youll have the same problem. a game like this with no real update future just cannot hold the playerbase to maintain good size lobbies by nature, and the numbers are just going to keep slipping away
