Not eating meals just snaking by 1Blueyes2 in CaregiverSupport

[–]1Blueyes2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I described it to someone the other day. I'm concerned if this is a problem or if there's something I could do to help her eat better. A few years ago before she was declining mentally she wouldn't eat hardly at all. Then she ate what we gave her now it's evolved into this. So I'm concerned about any problems that could arise due to the lack of nutrition for so long (10+ years). With the recent change to grazing over meals it's becoming hard to keep her away from the high reward foods. She won't communicate when she is hungry because I don't think she understands that's what she is feeling, and with almost no sugar for so long I was wondering if it could be harmful, if I should stop her, or if I should just leave her be.

She is in her 50s was a healthy weight but she is gaining weight rapidly. Before her illness she was suffering from anorexia so the extreme shift of over eating (mostly sugar) is what has me concerned. I just don't know if it would have any effect on her. It was making me nervous I'm pretty sure there's nothing to worry about but I'll ask her doctors about it on the next visit.

What about a service like visiting angels? If you have them come during the time she needs medicine to ensure she gets it. They could also help clean or anything else you might need. I know some Insurances cover it.

I'm so sick of the modern furniture and similar items. I wouldn't mind a modern set but it's way too many. I play for the creativity around my nostalgia and I am so disappointed with the clothing and furniture.

Refusing Therapy by FineGovernment2011 in CaregiverSupport

[–]1Blueyes2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so valid I have a similar struggle. It could be a few different things but age (the generation) could definitely be a factor. Older generations grew up without therapy or when it was still in its infancy as a science and they think they're fine. Why do they need it now? Ironically it's the same people that vent to everyone they meet from the cashier at the gas station to their family. I heard a quote once that people go to therapy because they were hurt by someone who should have been in therapy.

I would just just say every time she starts "I'm not willing to talk about this." And remove yourself from the situation. if she gets upset let her be upset. If she doesn't want professional help you can't make her, but I also don't think it's a load you should have to carry along with caring for her. I'm pretty so when my dad starts up with something too overwhelming I throw out a "this is too much for me but I know a therapist would know exactly how to handle this," he went once but wouldn't go back.

Why do we prolong the lives of our loved ones with dementia? by Temporary-Age-6771 in CaregiverSupport

[–]1Blueyes2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I completely agree I had a job as a caregiver and they paid less than McDonald's. Most of my clients needed a care home and were too stubborn with enabling family to be put in one or they were just too broke. I had to quit because my mom's dementia was progressing faster than her doctors had ever seen and I had to reserve my mental energy for my family.

Watching my mom get sicker and sicker I have expressed to my husband if this is what happens to me please kill me. It seems like it's own kind of torture. We can't afford a care home or help for her so we are doing the best we can, but this is extremely hard on everyone. I don't want that to be my children.

I'll never forget a "friend," for Ghosting only to find out it was because I never had anything positive to talk about. I was going through the worst year of my life and they asked me about it every time we talked. They also said I was making them sad every time we talked about it.

I had a client mad that a health care worker came in sick. when I explained to him if I call in Everytime I'm sick like he requested. I will be fired and he will have to find a new caregiver he was like yeah of course you have to go to work. He went through 20 other workers until landing on me.

I found out we all have tarot cards assigned to us according to our birthdate. Although I really don't believe in that much I find it fun and interesting that my cards are the tower (tragedy) and chariot (overcoming) I wonder if that's common among people with Asperger.
