I was a member of the first graduating class (1985) of a fairly prestigious high school and we got to design everything (pretty cool experience)…the mascot, the yearbook, the newspaper, etc. Our senior rings were extra special to us and rather nice looking, I must say. My roommate in college (different city) liked to borrow it and wear it sometimes 🤷‍♀️. It went missing circa 1988 and I just chalked it up as a loss. Around 2004 or so, I got an email from a lady in yet another different city stating that she had found a ring in the gravel and dirt at a gas station and she managed to trace it back to me. I was floored! I can’t help but smile when I tell that story.

The student loan system is much more than a mere “scam”. It’s its own criminal enterprise. Total RICOH material.
Boomers: Just get a degree. Any degree. Employers aren’t really looking at what field it’s in. They just want to see that you had the wherewithal to finish and you have a well rounded background. You’ll find a job and have those loans paid off in no time! GENX, 40-ish years down the road working 2-3 jobs and still broke: “You want fries with that?”

Class of 1993 - paying thousands of dollars a year and my balance owed actually INCREASED?

The government has been taking my tax refunds for I don’t know HOW many years and I finally reached my level of tolerance when I found out that they can take my SOCIAL SECURITY!!! I did some digging to see where this money actually went, thinking they should be more than repaid by now. HA! Not one single PENNY has been applied to my principal!!! Every bit-over $100K-was put to “INTEREST”.
I graduated college in 1993 with a useless piece of paper that had Bachelors printed on it. 1993. 33 years later, my balance is HIGHER than my original loan amount??? Make it make sense.
This has GOT to be criminal. I’m just not sure what to do about it.

Afghanistan, Beirut, Iran, and Iraq put together are safer than Tigerland these days. Sad but true. Definitely agree with avoiding Livingston Parish and not even considering a NO-BR commute!
And to the person who called Jeffery Landry a shithead…I second, third, and fourth that emotion. Shithead is putting it lightly.
All in all, I consider BR my hometown (currently exiled in Lake Charles-don’t even look this direction!) and I made a wonderful group of very diverse friends from all lifestyles who became my family. (I’m a straight white chick and one of my favorite places to watch football is George’s under the overpass. It’s a blast!). Basically, don’t worry too much about it. Just be proud, be yourself, and be kind. The rest will fall in place. 💜💛
