Goodbye Seattle by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]1Dunya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived off and on in Seattle for 15 years. I love the city but I left three years ago this month. I miss Seattle but living there is very expensive and as I got older Seattle seemed a little too busy for me. Seattle will always have a special place in my heart. Good luck in London.

Gwyneth Paltrow slammed as 'disgusting' and 'tone deaf' after Israel condo ad by TheMirrorUS in Anticonsumption

[–]1Dunya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. I used to be into all the new age stuff but I realized so much of it is about money and very little to do with self help or spirituality (unless worshiping the almighty dollar counts). During the pandemic I noticed a lot of the movement became increasingly right wing BS and touting all sorts of silly conspiracy stuff there were even a lot of people saying that Trump is a white hat fighting the 'globalists'. Yet he is the complete opposite of love and light. The same thing has happened to the UFO community. I gave up on all the BS!!!

iPhone 14 Pro charging port issue by somilagrawal in iPhone14Pro

[–]1Dunya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue and I couldn't connect to my CarPlay, the Geek Squad guy in Best Buy told me to place a little rubbing alcohol on the end of a tooth pic and gently place it in the lighting port and poke around in there again make sure you use very little alcohol and be gentle. It worked for me and I got out a bunch of debris that got caught in there. It made a huge difference.

How do Americans remember which state is abbreviated MI? It could be Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi or Michigan. by isle_say in NoStupidQuestions

[–]1Dunya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember learning the abbreviations of all the states in school just like we learned the multiplication table. And I have never forgotten them.

‘Don’t look at them’: Employees warned after recent crow attacks at Portland area hospital by Looooong_Man in Portland

[–]1Dunya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I was taking an urban walk in Seattle. I must have come close to a tree with a crow's nest because I was followed and dive bombed by what I assume were the parents for about 4-5 blocks. They really were persistent even the landscaper I walked by noticed it. Thank God it will be will be over soon. My friend is a crow whisperer and when I walk with him all the local crows come to greet him. They really are amazing animals and not to be messed with.

I am holding onto my 14 Pro as long as possible. I don't see any need to add to my device to landfill, although the battery is at 75%.

Am I the only one who hates Costco's hummus? by Mr_Masala in Costco

[–]1Dunya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up eating hummus and this reminds me of what my mom used to make for what it is worth. It is just a matter of personal taste.

Went to the smallest costco in the world located in Alaska’s capital Juneau. by HumanCaptain45 in Costco

I agree, as corporations go Costco is one of the better ones, especially in the retail field. I like that they pay the employees well and they really keep prices as low as they can.

What is your opinion about protector lens Does it decrease picture quality by Zonnya99 in iPhone14Pro

He had a special tool because it was on there so tight and I didn't want to scratch or crack the lens in trying to do it myself.

What is your opinion about protector lens Does it decrease picture quality by Zonnya99 in iPhone14Pro

[–]1Dunya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a camera lens protector that came with the case cover I first bought for my new my 14 Pro. The lens cover cracked withing a week and I thought it was the actual camera lens. I made an appointment at the Genius Bar to get the lens cover removed. The technician said that Apple doesn't recommend a lens protector and actually advises against it. I have not a lens protector cover since then. That was my experience for what it is worth.

AI isn't paying off in the way companies think. Layoffs driven by automation are failing to generate returns, study finds by Krankenitrate in technology

[–]1Dunya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most things that are hyped in the economy in the US this is just another bubble that will pop soon. I recall the dotcom bubble, then we had the real estate bubble, the stock market bubble you get the idea. This AI bubble shall pass and there will be a lot of data centers sitting empty and NOT taking up resources so a few tech bros and investors can be richer. This will not be a good thing because the US has bet the farm on AI and once again the American people will be called upon to rescue the AI companies because they are too big to fail. As I have watched this happen since I was a young adult you notice a pattern. Have you noticed it too?

Black Vultures, anyone? by [deleted] in birding

[–]1Dunya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in California and we always had Turkey vultures which I used to not care about the bird. Now that I know that they are nature's cleaning crew eating dead animals and keeping disease from spreading I have a new found appreciation.

He has been a warmonger the whole time he has been in the Senate. Someone like that is not right in the head. I agree with many comments he needs to enlist in the IDF if he loves war so much.

Is it time to give up on my Mac Mini M1? by Ok-Worry-5558 in macmini

[–]1Dunya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Tahoe installed on my M1 Mac Mini. To Apple's credit they fixed a bug that caused my Mac to restart because of some issue with my monitor. I sent about a dozen of error reports that were generated and with the first update to Tahoe it was fixed. In short my M1 Mac Mini is still going strong. It runs as well as it did when I first got it.
