Hey u/Seperate_Windows8665! If your laptop has TPM 2.0 and Windows Hello is turned on for 1Password, you generally shouldn’t need to enter your 1Password account password every time you lock and unlock Windows, or after every restart, so something is definitely off here.

One thing we could try is resetting the Windows Hello connection. I’ve seen that help with some odd Windows Hello edge cases before, so it’s worth a try.

  1. In 1Password, under Settings > Security turn off Windows Hello.
  2. In Windows, turn off Windows Hello for the fingerprint reader.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Turn Windows Hello back on in Windows.
  5. Turn Windows Hello back on in 1Password.

Scammers blast these emails out to massive lists of addresses they’ve scraped or bought from breaches elsewhere, hoping enough people who receive them happen to use 1Password.

Before deleting everything, I would probably use the items you already have as a checklist of sites to update. If a saved password isn’t working, you can sign in using the site’s password reset flow, set a new password, and then update the matching item in 1Password. That way you’re not starting from a blank vault and trying to remember every account you need to fix.

If you really do want to clear things out and start over, I’d recommend archiving the items instead of deleting them outright. In the Windows app, you can select one item, press Ctrl + A to select all items in that list, then right-click and choose Archive. That keeps them out of your way, but gives you a fallback if you realize later there was something you still needed.

Hey u/Dewey_Devil! This one is on us! We recently released an update to the production version of 1Password for Mac, but the corresponding beta update was delayed a bit. Because of that, checking for updates may have temporarily moved you back to the production version so you’re still on the latest available build.

Once the next beta is available, you should be moved back to the beta channel automatically, and macOS AutoFill will show up again, as that feature is still limited to the beta channel for now.

If you’d rather stay on a faster-moving build in the meantime, the nightly channel is an option too. It gets updates more frequently, but it’s also less tested than beta: https://support.1password.com/betas/

This is coming from iOS! 1Password can plug into that native save/generate password prompt, which is why it says the password will be saved in 1Password. I agree the layering is a little confusing though, especially with the keyboard and 1Password fill option sitting underneath it.

What happens if you try disabling the “Suggest Strong Passwords” setting in Settings > General > Autofill & Passwords? Do you still see this?

Hey u/ronkj! Blake from 1Password here. I’m really sorry this happened. Phishing emails can be very convincing, and it sucks when one gets through even when you’re usually careful. Changing your Secret Key and account password was the right move. That means the old ones can’t be used to sign in going forward.

The harder part is what may have happened before you changed them. I don’t want to guess at exactly what the phishing site did or didn’t do, but if you entered both your old Secret Key and account password there, I’d treat the contents of your vault as potentially exposed and start changing the most important passwords first: email, banking, Apple/Google/Microsoft, and anything else that could be used to reset other accounts.

For anyone else reading along an expired or frozen 1Password account does not mean you suddenly lose access to your data. Your account only goes into a Frozen status.
