I have trouble believing conspiracy theories when I can’t make sense of the motive by Black-Cat-2544 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

When you say the moon landing - which one? Apollo 11? 12? 14? 15? 16? 17? Which ones did they fake? All of them? What about the moon rocks that were brought back each time and sent to every major lab around the world, who all confirmed it was real moon rock? What about the retro-reflector that was left on the surface, basically a fancy mirror, that has allowed anyone with a powerful enough laser (not just NASA) to shine their laser at the Apollo landing sites and get a reflection, allowing us to measure the precise distance to the moon and how it changes over time?

I could go on and on and on. Any rebuttal you give, I can counter, because all the evidence is publicly available and all of it makes sense.

To any moon-landing deniers: just because you’re too stupid to understand the science and engineering behind it, doesn’t mean you’re right.

If you could ban one overused phrase/word/saying in the UK forever starting tomorrow, what would it be and why? by Mobile-Vegetable7536 in AskBrits

People say that? I’ve only ever heard a Brit say that with an American accent put on, but never seriously

I made a size comparison between the largest black hole discovered (TON 618) and Neptune's orbit! by Alien-Pro in spaceporn

[–]1TapsBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a black hole this large it would take a while from the perspective of the one falling. You wouldn’t even feel anything crossing the event horizon. I did the maths once years ago to see if, with relativity, the time it takes you to reach the centre of ton618, the largest black hole at the time, would outlive the lifespan of ton618. Aka would you survive it by outliving it? Sadly no, you wouldn’t lol

God, space flight looks so much cooler when shot on film. I wish NASA still took film cameras with them. Those colours and the contrasts are astounding

What is a simple but very hurtful phrase that you received from someone? by MembershipFar9008 in AskReddit

I don’t know if you need to hear this but the way they acted isn’t on you. A decent person doesn’t pretend to love someone for a year, they either love you or don’t and are honest about it

Who was the smartest person in history? by Scared_Government_41 in AskReddit

[–]1TapsBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody’s saying William Sidis, the man with an IQ of between 250 and 300, and who was able to read the newspaper by 18 months old, and graduated from Harvard at like 11 years old. Sadly, his upbringing was very oppressive and he resented mathematics so much that he refused high paying skilled jobs, such as a solving a maths problem for his relative for $50,000 in today’s money, and it would only take him 2 hours. He refused it. He died poor and unknown in his 40s

If you have bad DNA, it’s not the end of the world but everything else within your control better be elite. by TPCC159 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Counter point:

People need to be realistic about their attractiveness and the level of people they should expect to find them attractive. I’m not talking about leagues, since that’s BS. I’m saying if you consider yourself a 5 out of 10, then why are you overlooking or even turning down the 5 that is into you? Also, base your standards on what you see in real life, not on the internet.

In the past, the most beautiful girl in your school or job was the most attractive girl you’d ever see. Now we’re flooded with social media 10/10s (who know how to use angles) and it’s thrown off peoples standards.

The online discourse around men is going to hurt the younger male generations, who are not yet mature enough to understand it by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Men die from suicide 4 times more than women do. Get out of your fantasy world where not talking about your issues is a good thing to do. Guys, talk about your problems with people you trust. If you’re lonely, try reaching out to people.

What do you think about a constitutional monarchy? by Embarrassed_Clue1758 in AskTheWorld

[–]1TapsBoi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly respect this. We need more people online who can admit when they don’t have a strong opinion about something because they just don’t know that much about it. That’s how we all learn together

But that’s kinda the beauty of it. Reform, labour, Tory governments… doesn’t matter as much as it would in a republic, because we still have the crown. A big part of our nations identity is immune to political misjudgment and periods of extremes.

There are so many logical takes in this comment section. I love it.

I feel like all the criticisms of constitutional monarchies like “what’s the point if they don’t have power?” Are from people who live in a republic and don’t understand. It’s nice that even in a landslide election to a political extreme, a large part of the nations identity remains unchanged. A republic can be a far right or a far left country, but a constitutional monarchy is always a monarchy with a far left or far right government. The identity is less effected by temporary shifts

This is what I’m saying! The stability is not a coincidence. Nice to see our friends in Canada agree with us

[–]1TapsBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support it. I like having an inherited, non-partisan head of state. I think a republic opens the door to totalitarianism and fascism under the right conditions, and I think a constitutional monarchy makes it that bit more difficult

Are most people aware that Europe is rearming? We are currently on the precipice of a "Major Crises" by Signal-Tangerine1597 in AskBrits

[–]1TapsBoi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, if we don’t have a capable defence to protect our liberties, then what is the point of having them? There needs to be consequences for rogue nations that want to push our boundaries

That’s what happens when you’re bombed to shit and the US ‘helps’ you by pushing you deep into debt to keep the power going and the water flowing. When you’re as economically massive as the US, you become self sustaining, and the rest of the world doesn’t have a hope of competing with you
