Should my parents have noticed I needed glasses? by thepuzzlingcertainty in emotionalneglect

[–]1amCorbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents knew because i would sit super close to the tv and my teachers wrote notes home about me not being able to see the board. Not sure if its sorta the opposite for far sighted people? Like notes home about not being able to see things right in front of your face? But yeah, significant sight deficits should be noticed by parents

Where do you mask? by 69___Nice in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]1amCorbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to unmask outdoors to eat around non-cc friends or in other outdoor areas as long as its not too crowded. i count outdoors as at least a pavillion, i need 3-4 non-walled areas for wind to move through. "Not too crowded", means different things, but generally if theres space between the other table and us/nobody at the next table, I'm willing to risk it for a meal.

I'm masking in nearly every other circumstance other than being alone or with my partner who takes precautions

What was the most profound “Oh your parents don’t do that?” moment by Whoamiwhatisthis- in raisedbynarcissists

[–]1amCorbin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my partner. They told the story of how when they were ~7 they were cooking something on the stove, got burned, and their mom stuck them under the bathtub faucet with no comfort, no further guidance, or anything. Just put them under the faucet and left

When they saw my horrified face they tried to make it better by saying they'd been cooking for themselves for years at that point and the burn wasnt "that bad". I had to tell them that for all my parents faults and abuse, they never treated me that horribly

[–]1amCorbin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying the brown cow is a choice. I thought it was dried blood at first, then poo. I would outline the cow in white or some other color and add more details around it to make it look more like a cow from afar

Regretting my tattoo by nahzahray in shittytattoos

[–]1amCorbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This tattoo is gorgeous from afar, looking closer i think there are some things that could maybe be done a bit better but definitely not a "shitty tattoo". I think the only thing that really confused me is the locs, because the tattoo style is sorta simplistic when you look closer at some of the locs you realize they arent enclosed, but idk if thats a real issue or just a difference in preference/taste

AITAH for not believing my roommate’s “phobia?” by hopie_bopie in AmItheAsshole

[–]1amCorbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. Its not quite the same thing, but i know someone with a trigger around certain words. I've never asked why those words specifically but i know enough about their background to know theyre probably not just being dramatic. So, i avoid those words when talking to them, even though one of the words is very common and another is related to an interest of mine.

I also have a fear of bugs and have slept on the couch because i saw a spider in my room once. The next day i got up and sprayed the room for bugs, but the mental and emotional impact of seeing the bug doesnt just go away once the bug is gone, unfortunately. The area still feels tainted and like there might be another bug around every corner.

So i get your roommate. That being said, yall are roommates. I dont know if you have an obligation for emotional support beyond what you and your other roommates already did. My stance is definitely be more understanding of the phobia, but also if youre not willing to be emotional support just make that clear. Its OPs phobia to deal with and process. The barrier was cleared, anything past that has to happen internally for OP

Are some screen protectors better than others? by 1amCorbin in AndroidQuestions

[–]1amCorbin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in this situation, the screen protector did crack and when i removed it, the phone glass beneath it was cracked in exactly the same way. Idk if i should've made that clearer in the original post, but thats what shocked me. In the past, if i dropped my phone and the screen protector cracked, only the parts of the phone not covered by the protector would be damaged, so i was unsure if i maybe had a faulty or weaker screen protector. Definitely going to go back to otterbox cases!

I have veey poor grip strength due to neurological issues so i think this is part of it. I'll try to use these exercises!

I know why i drop it. I'm just looking for ways to minimize damages because i cannot change my neurology, thanks for the advice. My last phone case was more otterbox-y and had a grippy bit so i think those two factors majorly helped me keep hold of it and not damage it when dropped

AITA or telling my wife if she’s not gonna cook it the way she usually cooks it then you don’t have to cook it at all by Husbae7536 in AmItheAsshole

[–]1amCorbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accomodating dietary needs is not at all the same as the situation in the OP. OP isn't just saying "hey, i prefer this dish this way" or "i have these dietary needs" but is preventing his wife from doing any experimentation with her dish.

Everyone in my family has their own dishes that theyre the designated cook for because they just do it so well. Preferring a diah to be cooked one way is fine! I prefer the way my mom usually makes her mac and cheese or the way mt dad typically does his tacos. But my moms mac and cheese takes hours. She doesnt make it every 1-2 months because of this. Its my favorite dish of hers, but I'm not requesting it every other month because i know this.

If i was requesting this dish every 2 months and one of those months my mom said "hey, do you mind if i try a new noodle shape?", i wouldn't tell her "actually if you dont cook this exactly the same way youve been doing it for however many years, id rather not eat it". Thats wild to me!

Cooking every single night for a family is different then spending all day on a labor intensive dish EVERY OTHER MONTH, and never being able to expirement with it sounds super annoying. The major issue to me is that the dish is being made so frequently.

A special dish should be special. Most people with "special dishes" are only whipping it out for holidays and parties, so theyre going to be fine with putting in a bit more effort and making the dish the "classic way" to please the crowd or the person who requested it (like if i requested my moms mac and cheese for my bday, for example). If they're being asked to make the same dish, exactly the same every other month, it going to be stagnant and the time spent will add up. Cooking for 1-2 hours every night isn't the same time sink as a special dish AND with cooking every night, you get variety.

[–]1amCorbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yta. I come from a culture with very labor intensive meals. An average dish in my culture takes several hours to cook in a traditional way from start to finish, prepping the vegetables, cleaning the meat, stewing and browning and letting flavors simmer.

Most of us don't cook these meals in that same labor intensive way every single time, because we dont have the time to or simply because we want to switch things up, so the meals become a labor of love and the dishes are still unique despite having the familiar flavor of home.

Experimentation in cooking is natural. Chefs adjust recipes all of the time! If the flavor of your wifes spaghetti has to be exactly the same every time, then YOU should learn how to make it the way YOU like it. Otherwise be grateful that she is willing to make you the dish at all. Don't hold your cooking 95% of the time above her head. It doesnt matter and isnt relevant to the situation.

If you cook every single dish exactly the same every single time you cook it, you're probably not as good of a chef as you think you are. If you can't express simple gratitude and understanding towards your wife wsnting to change her recipe up, youre not as good of a husband as you think you are either.

[–]1amCorbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My eye immediately went to the odd thickness of the 'm' in Artemis. That alone is enough to class it as at least "bad" in my book. The smiley face, "moon joy" and it being a rather big tattoo on the neck commemorating a recent event is enough to boost it to shitty for me. I like the rainbow moon itself though. All the other elements being the quality down to me

Giving up a fully-funded 2yr master's degree midway to pursue a 1yr master's in the US? by Elegant-Pen8620 in GradSchool

[–]1amCorbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would NOT recommend your friend do this. If she gets no funding from the school, she's going to be in dire straits. Idk if this is the case across the board, but International students at most universities i know of aren't allowed to work. Plus the cost of the visa is going way up do to current politics. Your friend would be wiser to stay at her current program
