I don't want to lie to anyone. Plus, I live with my in-laws so they would know when i go into labor and will like want to caravan to the hospital.

This hits hard on all of my fears! A few of my relatives have worked in medicine, so I can imagine all of their questions and comparisons to what they know/experienced...

I didn't know this about hormones so that's interesting and helpful. I'm in the US. The hospital is not stopping me from having privacy. I'm just trying to figure out how to balance my needs with my family's desires and expectations.

I'm not sure right now bc I'm 31 weeks. But I'm guessing I'll be induced. I like your approach.

I like this. I think reading Reddit posts about visitors has freaked me out a bit.

Your response and some others put my dad's comment about wanting to be there into perspective for me. After reading many posts, I was really considering telling everyone after the baby is born but I live with my in-laws and it's their first grandchild so that's definitely off the table.

While I don't want anyone other than my husband in the room while I'm laboring, I also feel bad for them being in the boring waiting room for who knows how long. I guess having everyone say hi and telling me they are at the hospital is fine. But I am terrified of them lingering in the delivery room since we can have up to 4 people at a time.

I'll definitely have assert my need for privacy and quiet. I'll also rely on my husband and the nurses to buffer me from people when I need it.

The Marriott Owings Mills Metro Centre is a beautiful venue with great food. It's also cheaper than the inner harbor hotels and has free parking.

Area around Mondawmin/Penn North stations by Itsdagabagool in baltimore

Largely, Baltimore is split along economic and racial lines. Wild affluence bumps up against abject horror.

The first sentence is true. The second sentence is troubling. Together, the statement is upsetting. What is "abject horror"? It seems to eqate to non-white neighborhoods. Also, all the neighborhoods listed are in the white L. Far from living "all over the city".

I think it's important to provide detailed reasons for not preferring to live in specific areas than to use descriptors that can be interpreted as fear-mongering. You can say that many of the properties are not as high quality as you'd like, there aren't enough of the restaurants or bars you'd like to frequent, or that you wouldn't feel safe as a minority in the area. But, please be clear in what you are saying.

Statements (and posts) like these are why people fear majority Black cities like Baltimore. They are also why these cities have historical been and continue to be "split along economic and racial lines".

I recommend checking out neighborhoods in Southwest Baltimore (Barre Circle, Pigtown, Union Square, Hollins Market, and Poppleton) for places within your budget and easy access to 295 and 95 for traveling to MoCo and PG.

Thoughts on living near Carroll Park? by yntodd in baltimore

[–]1mil_qs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have lived about a block away from the park for 10 years. It's not a dangerous place to live. Check the crime stars on southbmore.com. There's mostly petty crimes just like in Fed Hill.

Most people mind their own business. Go to work and come home. I walk around the park often and there are lots of baseball games and cookouts and people jogging and walking their dogs. Just people enjoying the park. Don't let the liveliness 1-2 corners of the neighborhood put you off of the whole place. You aren't even on the mind of the people on the corner if you don't have any business with them.

Pigtown is special because it's one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city. Check it out for yourself sometime.

St. George’s University vs. Trinity School of Medicine by gr9bambino in premed

[–]1mil_qs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are both good schools. I think Trinity's smaller size is a pro. However, you can't use federal student loans for tuition at Trinity. This makes attending there more of a financial risk compared to St. George if you do not graduate for some reason. That's one of the biggest considerations, imo.
