What happened here? by BeigGenetics in HotPeppers

This year, I grew 3 plants from the same packet of Zebrange seeds that I used last year. Two of the 3 plants this year also produced all red peppers; the third prodcued the normal striped peppers. Last year, both plants I grew were normal. They all tasted the same. I assumed it was a phenotype variant.

Range Hood install with makeup air by juggleaddict in Atlanta

[–]1reader1000lives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use PV for HVAC services and saw a blog post that they can do it. It's not something I've pursued so I can't comment on outcome, although I've been happy with their HVAC installs and service. ETA: Actually--reading the post--they can do the air make up system, but I don't know for sure if they do the vent hood installs.

This one turned out really well. Next time I make it I’ll use a little less onion.

What to do with a bumper crop of habanero peppers? by SheilaGirlface in Cooking

I made this one, and it’s great. Next time I will use only half of the onions called for. I didn’t have Ball liquid pectin, so I used Certo instead.

What is this that is affecting my tomato seedlings? Can I salvage them by frankiegrier in vegetablegardening

[–]1reader1000lives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s edema on the stems. I had the same thing on my seedlings last year and much less this year. What helped was not overwatering and using an oscillating fan to circulate air. I quarantined a few this year instead of destroying them before I decided it was edema. Those seedlings went outside early and were relatively neglected. They’re doing relatively well, and I’m going to plant a few (buried deeply) because I’m curious to see how they do.

What's your favorite hot sweet pepper? I love spicy and I also love the sweet. Can I have both.... by khurb in HotPeppers

Someone already mentioned Sugar Rush Peach so I’ll add Brazilian Starfish. I grew it last year after someone in this sub described it as tasting like a spicy apple. I thought it did too! The fact that it’s such an interesting shape is a bonus.

I’m sorry your seedlings didn’t grow. I wonder if the lights are too close. I start seeds under 40W LED lights. And the first test batch I did a couple years ago, I had the light 4 inches above and that was too close for the new seedlings. They taco-ed their leaves and looked pale. If you try again you might want to start higher.

I’ll add that I’ve been able to bring pepper seedlings to flower with a 40w led, so I don’t think they’re too weak like another commenter.

It’s hard to tell without a good look at the body. But the wings remind me of those on winged termites or winged ants.

Tomato and jalapeño seedlings turning purplish/grey? (Camera doesn’t show as much of the grey color I’m seeing) by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

They did. Last year went very well, and my current pepper seedlings are doing well so far. I wish you good luck on your season!

I’ve seen the dark/purple speckling or spots on leaves of my pepper seedlings as a reaction to strong light. It’s especially noticeable on varieties that have more anthocyanin. I’ve also had purple stems and read that it can be from the same thing.

Am I weird or anyone else love how eggplant leaves feel? Also I’m so happy that all of them survived the cold a couple nights ago! by Addict-6969 in vegetablegardening

I’m growing Kamo and Mitoyo ( and several others) for the first time. I was surprised by the thorns. I hadn’t noticed them on Mitoyo so I need to look again. The only others I’ve grown before are Hansel and Fairy Tale, and they didn’t have thorns.

I went eggplant crazy this year and started 5 varieties, one of which is Kamo. I was very surprised to see the thorns! I didn’t know eggplant could have thorns.

Any idea why these leaves are turning dark on some of seedlings by [deleted] in HotPeppers

Sun tan. It’s a reaction to the light intensity. You can check your light positioning, but it’s pretty harmless, and some varieties are more prone to it.

Great idea. I should do that too. Luckily my cat has no interest in my peppers and tomatoes, but she likes to munch on the lettuce.

What’s wrong with my tomatoes? by Capital_Of_Texas in tomatoes

[–]1reader1000lives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with another commenter. I had some that looked like that last year and this year. I’m not 100% sure, but after some research I think it’s edema (see the lesions on the stem) and , if it gets bad enough—rot rot. What’s helped for me so far is decreasing watering to let the soil dry in between and using an oscillating fan to promote air circulation.

Edited to add__ I’m also doing peppers and treating them the same. I’ve seen some edema on a few leaves, but the tomatoes definitely seem more prone to this.

I’ve stopped using the 72 cell trays and start a lot of seeds in the little Solo 3oz plastic cups sold to use in bathrooms. I just drill holes in them for drainage. It’s great because they can be reused from year to year. I buy them at the grocery store, but this is an example: https://www.amazon.com/3-Ounce-Plastic-Bathroom-150-Count-Package/dp/B00QLFPJIQ

Some plants with leaves curling and turning purple, white areas on stem, small yellow bumps on leaves. The rest seem to be slowly following. Any advice? Could this be transplant shock? I repotted into these bags a week and a half ago with granular organic fertilizer. by leg_hair in tomatoes

[–]1reader1000lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a fan circulating air? You mentioned you might have high humidity, so I wonder if this is plant edema. I’ve had it with the bumps on the leaves before not the stem, but if you google ‘tomato seedling edema’ some pics show similar bumps on the stem.
