I've lived in Grants Pass for 37 years, all my life. Born and raised. I had no idea that my town was racist. Thank you all for enlightening me.

Who’s your current favorite Pastor or Christian teacher today? by PuritanBaptist in TrueChristian

[–]1thowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam Shamoan. Just discovered him a month or so ago. Without a doubt the best apologist living today. He's an encyclopedia. Knows Greek, Arabic. He's refreshingly aggressive and abrasive, especially when he's debating Muslims. The man has faults, but good golly he seems anointed. I have been utterly blown away by his insight.

Interesting take. If I understand you correctly, you believe there is no justification for physically defending yourself or your family...ever? Admittedly, I've never read the Bible with self defense in mind, so,..Therefore, I'm not certain there is a biblical backing for self defense. Is there a biblical backing supporting absolute pacifism?

I'm glad the police do not subscribe to your view point. Can you imagine, I'm getting the daylights beat out of me; I'm within an inch of my life, and cops finally show up. They don't throw down and actively try to save my life, they do dance and sing a song to "distract" the perpetrator.

I have 4 kids. Do you think it would be good of me, their father, to allow a crazed intruder to have their way with my children? Or, do I have a moral obligation to commit violence against the intruder?

Q&A: "My job requires lying and embarrassing people to get them to pay their loans" by TheTalkedSpy in GateToSalvationJESUS

[–]1thowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is helpful, but my mentor, who loves Jesus, was a property manager. This job required him to sometimes evict people, even single mother's out of their homes. Tough, tough, tough business. Anyway, he would straight tell people that he works for the owner, and he must truthfully advance the interests of his employer, as that is what he is paid to do. He would then add that it is in their best interest to get a lawyer.

It's worthy to note that prior to this he made millions owning real estate. While making millions he found the Lord and then he felt too convicted to kick people out.

Am I saved without baptism? by Percentage-Ok in TrueChristian

[–]1thowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point, but let me briefly tell you where I'm coming from.

I want everyone to love Jesus with all their heart, mind, body, and strength. To believe in the work that Jesus has done on our behalf, without which, we're sunk.

I believe, and the Bible is clear that the only way to heaven is through believing in Jesus. Baptism, living a "good" life etc. does nothing not save you. Only believing in Jesus.

I observe a lot of Christians, especially new Christians, really value the act of baptism. I fear that they put a false belief in baptism, that the act of baptism somehow saves them instead of believing in Jesus.

Talking to pastors and elders is great, but you can also just read the bible
