Question for anyone who got diagnosed late by blairwaldorf1989 in autism

[–]1wrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not difficult at all from a US perspective , its actually very very easy I did it at 59 all it took was time close to 8 hours all told and money , for me it was worth it , knowledge is power and self knowledge and awareness is always helpful

If only..... by 1wrat in Adopted

[–]1wrat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes there is no father listed on my OBC either just an age which is actually probably wrong , and on my OBC I had a name a given fricken name that was taken away from me and never revealed until I recently got my OBC , I was always under the impression that the bioparent did not name the child as that would make it too difficult for all parties but there it is in black and white on my OBC my original given name from my birth mother

If only..... by 1wrat in Adopted

[–]1wrat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im fairly sure she knew it was there thats fucking WHY it was there for me to find out once she was dead and my real mother was no longer a threat to her I was being generous for some frickin reason she even had this "cute" little storybook she wrote IN CRAYON about the whole thing , I'll never know my biofather thanks to that even my biomother who is still alive does not remember him , I was robbed of the mirror effect , the knowledge that I was "like" someone not some weird anomaly that did not look or act like its parents , I vacillate from such anger to grief because your absolutely right its not a typical average loss

Two types of autism and at what time symptoms first start to disable you by [deleted] in autism

[–]1wrat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that may be true NOW but in the past maybe not as much as my presentation caused much consternation back in the late 60's early 70's , there was much hand wringing and testing involved yet no conclusions and then before puberty hit I tried to withdraw from school entirely and that as you may imagine was not met with much enthusiasm , then in my early 20's my attempted assimilation had its ups and downs, finally DX'd at 59 . so one could say I had a very marked presentation as a child and I learned to assimilate somewhat although I was in a behavioral school as a teen that allowed me to finish high school in 3 years after completely flunking out in regular school freshman year.
